2015 Worlds Men Free Skate March 28

All the 3 medalist fell once in this competition. On top of that Javi had some shaky landings,Yuzu a hands down and a pop and Denis 3 turns out so not one of them was completely clean

Yuzu has such a smart layout that he has an advantage even before he steps on the ice(that is if he executes his planned content).3 jumps in the second half in the short, all his combo jumps (including both 3A)in the long offer him room to not be perfect and still score big
It kinda baffels me that the other top men don't use this tactic

Umm, wasn't she actually right on this one? I think he was skating to spiderman music right?

Uh, I'm sure now I'm going to look so dumb now but I thought he was just skating to Muse. Was their music used in the movies? (I've never watched the movies.) I only thought it was funny because her remarks were so reminiscent of what people here were saying.

A few things since my seat was close to the KC tonight:
Orsers' athletes are very well trained. Their overall fitness (barring Hanyu) is impressive.
Tat cried after the Kovtun skate. She got really emotional, then stood there by the board while the other coaches sat with Kovtun. For a moment it looked like she got lost in time. Kovtun entourage is huge. His skating is not what a great team produces though.
Artuturian didn't dare to look at Rippon's jumps and was wandering madly around the whole time.
Someone who looks like Didier G. came from the other entrance down to see how Chafik B. skated but didn't come out for Amodio.
Eteri is gorgeous and so tall.

I was never a fan of Jason Brown but he won me over today. Quite disappointed with Amodio's quality. I was a fan a few seasons back. Brezina was the only one out of top 4 who actually had a program going on I thought. Too bad he popped and zayaked the hell out of it.

Some remarks from a once-a-year watcher of figure skating, namely my mother:

1. Kovtun: Is he spider man? (from a woman who's never held a Spiderman comic in her hands or seen a movie)

2. Nam: 16? He looks older than your favorite thin Japanese... Needs more maturity though.

3. Michal: He shouldn't be wearing gray pants. Dark red would be better. But the jacket is awesome.

4. Denis: Oh the skating and the music reminds me of another skater from the Olympics, where was he from, Kazahkstan? (me: mom, it's the same guy)

5. Adam: Very nice. His shirt reminds me of military.

6. Yuzuru: Oooh, I love Phantom of the Opera!

7. Javier: How can he wear such an awful pale vest? If at least there was glitter on it. Oh he's skating to Barber of Seville? Ok then, servants didn't wear glitter then.

8. Han Yan: So handsome! Oh poor guy, can you imagine what he must be feeling right now?

9. Jason: Why does he look like a Gypsy? (me: mom, it's a mediaval costume, he'd doing Tristan and Isolde, and wait, he changed those awful mustard pants!) Well, I like this costume, that thing flapping around his waist looks good when he's spinnign and he's interpreting well.

Overall, I think she liked Jason Brown best. Between clean Nam and messy Michal, she liked Michal better.

ETA: Oh, I forgot but that was great:

Florent: Great costume! It's, like, Africa!

Your mother is the only person who still likes POTO after this season! Hahaha.

Thank you for sharing! I wish I could get my mom to watch skating with me. I don't think she's watched it since Michelle Kwan retired.

4. Denis: Oh the skating and the music reminds me of another skater from the Olympics, where was he from, Kazahkstan? (me: mom, it's the same guy)

Laughing so hard - what is it about mums? I mean mine has been the exact same in three competitions now: *watching GP* - "yes I lilke the one who got bronze at the olympics...no not this one" "Mum, that's the same guy" "No no, the one from Kazakstan" "Yes that's him!" "No I'm sure that's not him" *Denis doing well at 4CC* "Yes I liked the one who won the gold medal, he reminded me of the one from Kazakstan" "Mum that's the same guy" "Really? I don't know if you're right..."

Maybe the comparison has just been made before.

The music is Exogenesis Symphony, which is supposed to be a 13-minute "space rock" composition. So maybe the outfit was suppose to be like "Sci-fi?"

And what he achieved was Spiderman, even to the uninitiated eyes

This is just amazing :laugh2:

My Mom is like that. I love taking her to museums, because I know exactly what she will say. At every single painting/sculpture/whatever, she'll ask me, who donated it? Then when I tell her, she'll say, "Eh, well they can afford it. It is pretty, though." Of course, she's from Ireland, so she says this in a charming brogue.

Moms. Gotta love 'em. :)

Love this

Just looking at the score sheet I noticed something that was anticipated, but I find it almost weird that so many skaters lost beautiful combinations like 3A2T or 3F-2T-2L, done generally in the second part to get extra points, and forget, or didn't even know that when the turned a 4T into a popped or less popped 2T which count to the number of 2T you are aloud to do. I wonder how difficult it could be if they replace the 2T with a 2L as the second jump in a combination and be more careful when you skate.

And she loved the fact that Rika Hongo skated to Carmen too! I guess casual watchers won't get tired of familiar, crowd-pleasing music... She still recognizes Angelika Krylova's name as the one who did an awesome Carmen back when.

Thanks for your observations, it's great to hear such details!

To be fair, given Denis Ten tendency is to be a bit hot and cold. Skate America 2014 (who was beaten by Jason Brown and Nam Nguyen)/2014 Trophee Eric Bompard (beaten by Maxim Kovtun and Tatsuki Machida)" could easily be perceived as a "different skater" than 2013 Worlds/2014 Olympics/2015 4CC/2015 Worlds Denis Ten. :laugh2:

I'm sorry, but a 10.00 in TR should go to a skater who does a quad, incorporating TR going into it. Even if the rest of the program is full of transitions, that (in my books) is a requirement for a PERFECT transitions score.

In your books. I'm not trying to pick a fight it's just all day today and yesterday and the day before all I've been reading about is how people are thinking one or two jump errors should affect the PCS. But in the rules about component scores it's always been clearly stated that component scores are only about the stuff in-between elements and jump errors do not affect PCS unless there are more than a couple of errors that start to disrupt the program. Am I the only one who read that in the ISU rules?

So happy for Javier! When I saw that he won I couldn't react at first I was so shocked/happy.

Also, it's fantastic that Jason is in fourth. Especially after all the criticism.
