So... did Osmond flutz? I only paid attention to non-jump elements...

I'd say it should be getting a !, it's not quite clearly enough on an inside edge to warrant a full e IMO, but it's definitely not clean.

Simply, pretty similar to Evgenias 3Lz.

Which makes it so hilarious when people throw in a 'flutz' to argue for one of them being better than the other.

Satoko skates so beautifully. She has impeccable softness in her skating that everything seems so together, so fluid. She should have gotten a couple URs (3T and 3Lo) but everything is just beautiful.

I didn't think the 3Lo was UR...

I think all the judging system and the quota per country should be changed. As it is now, it is clear that it is more important what country the skater represents than the skater himself... many good and very good skaters don't have the opportunity to skate at Europeans and Worlds only because they come from Russia, for example, and they aren't among the best three there and many good skaters for smaller countries are trashed because they don t have an important federation to support them.

I think national bias in figure skating is ridiculous, because it's a sport that is so connected to the personality of the athlete. I can understand if you cheer for your national football team, or your fastest swimmer. But liking a figure skater because of their nationality makes absolutely no sense to me. Just look at the four russian ladies competing here. Are there any similarities? They are four different ladies.

One simple resolution: Assign and pay the judges independently and do not let Fed send judges to competitions.

Yes, her face and body movements all look so light and feathery. I recall that when Yuna was asked about her choreography "lark ascending", her answer was that it was very challenging to move your arms all the time cause you are supposed to be a bird. I appreciate Satoko's sensible and considerate approach to the choreography and her ability to execute as she desires.

Yep, she would be a Choreographer's dream

I cannot think of anyone who can skate like her. And program suits her like a glove.

Her 3T was not as clean as anyone wants, but it is hard to call underrotated. I re-watched slow-mo like 10 times. I think it was on the borderline in the worst case.

Who would not love her after that performance?

Her comeback this year is just mind blowing. Her FS is still in the making (hope we can see better version tomorrow though) Her Coach Ravi Walia deserves a nobel prize of skating. He supported her hard days, stabilized her wild huge jumps including the massive 3F3T, and found a brilliant choreographer for Katelyn. He had a vision for Katelyn even in the early days; her programs were extremely difficult and packed with transitions. Does he coach other skaters, too?

Maria had a visually tight landings on 2A, but her 3F was on the borderline in the worst case. Anyways her 3Lz in the combo jump is so high and covers so much ice. Her presentation has improved since the NHK. I think she is channeling Pogo a little bit. Fierce and strong style of skating suits the tone of the music. I think she is breaking out of a shell. Her dress is beautiful resembling the butterfly, the music she is skating to.

Pogo has been through alot. I am glad she's gotten stronger and there is other person in the KnC she can rely on.

She was almost tripped on the ice. I was worried if she pulled a muscle in the back. The crowd cheered for her and she kept her cool, putting a smile on her face, waiting for the music to start gracefully. IMO, she felt the pain on her first spin after 3Lz3T combo. She did not let others see her weakness during the performance. But something was not right with her; She turned out of a 3lo; a 2A was clean but did not have the usual Pogo power. She hold a haircut position long and somewhat determined to change it to Biellman position. I don't know. I can be over sensitive... I hope she is in a better condition tomorrow. What she did after that shaky incident was admirable. I think the impact were only minimal and she copped very very well. She thanked to the crowed as leaving the ice.

LOL. Yes she has a super human will power. She is selling the program on the stsq. But has her SS been regressed? It looked rough around edges...

I am curious what does TAT compliment about Medvedeva? Does she mention her choreography, or her skating skills?

This should be the sane mindset to understand the results.

I tried very hard to understand judge's PCS and GOEs. But I think I missed a memo when it comes to how they judged Evgenia compared to Katelyn. Would it change their mind if they saw E and K skate back to back?
I just enjoy reading posters trailblazing their career in choreography. I see lots of potential here. The ideas are unlimited!!

TAT's biggest complement to Medvedeva has always been her jumps. She rarely mentions choreo. Despite of what some "jump specialists" here say about Eugenia, TAT maintains that her jump technique is so good that she most likely never lose them.

As for PCS, I think it has to do with subjective nature of some of the categories. CH, IN and PE are very much a judgement call. And what you are doing here comparing completely different styles of skating of two skaters who are at the same level and do it within permitted margin. Neither are wrong in the books. As for SS and TR, that's tough one as I think those are the areas of the current system where Medvedeva is good at gaming.

The fact that people here would rather bash Evgenia or pretend she's the most flawless skater ever INSTEAD of discussing the extremely problematic scoring system (of PCS, not TES) that has brought us to this point kind of shows me that the vast majority of people here care about their faves instead of the sport.

Quantifying PCS just doesn't work, especially when it comes to comparing competitions like IJS does with its use of the WR. A WR in TES can actually be meaningful; a WR caused in part by PCS is impossible to actually discuss/dissect because PCS can't be objectively quantified. But people here would rather discuss their faves.

I thought you had just posted in these competition threads a few weeks ago about how people shouldn't harp on the scores and just enjoy the performances. Now the scoring seems to be all you want to discuss. Have you changed your mind on this?

I try soooo hard not to root for skaters just because they are Canadian (or British as I am a dual) but I will always have a soft spot. I would never want a Canadian team to win over a superior team from another country (D/W for example) but I do want the Canadian team to do well. Like in the team event at 2018- I want Canada to win but if the Russians, Americans, Chinese or Japanese skate better than they do then I'm okay with us not getting a medal (what I'd secretly love is to see one of the teams from a smaller fed win a medal-I'd probably gape with delight for hours if, say, the Australasian team beat out the Canadian as I do enjoy a certain amount of WTH.)

I think sometimes there is a disconnect between what want to see happen and what we think is a correct and accurate result. For some people they will always be the same thing.

Totally agree, I don't actually understand it... what does nationality have anything to do with how they do? And what if someone's favorite skater switches country that s/he competes for? Personally my favorites from each discipline are all from different countries because they just happened to be...

I'm taking a "if you can't beat them, join them" approach to things for the GPF. Maybe by Nationals I'll be back to my hopeful self? :agree:

Rarely have we benefited from such a richness of wonderful lady skaters. Let's enjoy all of them and not rip any of them to shreds. None of these ladies has that much wrong with their skating. That being said, no problem with critiques, but there is no need to be so vicious and mean spirited about it.:luv17:

Turned off by the scoring here. Seriously. No wonder i don't follow the ladies senior anymore. i prefer the other disciplines now, especially men--which really made incredible progress. Jin's inclusion would have placed the tech level of this competition through the roof.

For me...Osmond deserves FIRST place. PERIOD.

Absolutely agree- Osmond DESERVES first place. Even TAT mentioned, that Osmond's 'every cell responds' to the music. She has that extraordinary quality which is so rare...as to say, not to sing a song, not to skate, but to become a song herself...

Maybe it's a cultural thing. I've grown up in a society of guilt and that influences the way I think about nationalistic pride....I'm just happy for the skater as a person and not their country.

I'll leave my 2 cents and leave: medvedeva's overscoring (more inflated than anyone in the sport) is ruining the ladies competition. Everything is decided before the start, Medvedeva will get a PB or a WR if she hits everytime, regardless of her improvement or the actual quality of her skating (not higher than Osmond's, for example). Low jumps get +3, travelling spins +2, it doesn't matter. That's not how a competition should work.
I'm glad there's still competitive spirit in the other girls because honestly, it must be frustrating to compete with no hope to win because of reputation points. Osmond could have a 3A and that would only put her 1.5 points ahead of Medvedeva.

Since Med is very consistent. Kudos to her for that.

I hope to see her trying a 3A or quads in competition in the near future. (I heard that she is practicing quads though.)
As people said, now that WR is getting meaningless but still WR is WR, some people might think that each of them is the best of the best performance that has ever been done in the sport history.
I like that WR holders take risks (e.g. Yuzuru Hanyu who always trying most difficulty and aiming higher.)

Then, Wonder if that would affect her consistency?!? Very Curious.

^I think records and scores matter in a way that they affect what the next generation of skaters will be doing to be competitive. So rewarding or over rewarding so-so elements is crucial because then, others will follow that to win.
