2016 Skate Canada Ladies FP

Skilled, dramatic, but quite gawky! Mannerisms are pseudo artistic....Thus, overscored in my opinion. (Referring to Medvedeva free skate!)

Did anyone predict Kaetlyn in second place? I did not, but am so glad she proved me wrong.

I did but didn't post it. Had Evgenia first too. All by an esoteric means with no regards for logic, history, analysis or personal biases. Same way I predicted Kaetlyn's win before which I posted.

Mirai didn't get a single rotated triple jump. That is insane.

They did look UR in real time. She needs to do a better job of not landing with an obvious hook on the ice. That really gives it away to the tech panel.

Yes! I had her in second, and I got the podium right. The rest ... well, I had Alaine in 5th.

Mirai got urs on almost every jump and one jump comb was an invalid element. She seems to be relapsing or going backwards.

i dont think so, given other skaters are given so many > too. def not her best skate in any way.

Evgenia is a master of her art, totally delivered everything.
Congrats to Kaytlin, fully deserving silver, shamefully overscored yet.
Liza seems to be in good physical shape, but sometimes she looks doubtful about the simpliest jumps, that 1A was very weird. Also her programs are pretty average to me.

Well she is short but she has to figure out how to use it to her advantage and really if anything she should have better more powerful jumps and spring (smaller body area per muscle mass should favour her on the other hand artisitcally it is sometimes to create nice line - though on the other hand she could have been like Osmond's coach Ravi Walia - I saw on youtube and the guy look horribly awkward - not elegant lines at all because he was thin and tall looking.

sorry. I meant the short program not that she's short.

Oh I meant it's insane to see that many URs...I agree a lot of them looked UR in real time

Love the almost 28 POINT lead Evgenia had over Satoko...didn't some people predict Satoko could beat her here? And I'm thrilled for Kaetlyn. I did enjoy her programs more than Evgenia's, but I just don't like depressing programs as a rule. I'm not going to hold it against a 16-year-old, though...but her team could have really picked something better for a current world champion. Sad that Liza couldn't deliver in the end, but overall a very good competition.

but watch in NHK, Staoko's URs will magically disappear and score will reach 214 in total.

I am not going to lie by saying that I wasnt a fan of Medvedeva last season. However, her previous and current programs are on the same. I just cant get behind the contrived over-emoting, miming, and overscoring. Yes, she deserved to win gold but not with that score of 144+.

But she is consistent. Mao could win with less content because she has great skating skills and programs - but she is just too far back skill wise for wh atever reason right now. You have the two american princesses one who has regained her confidence and a world medal andis fierce but not the naturally talented one who is a major head case that she look likes she hates skating. You have the 2015 world champ stagnant, in horrible costumes and not regained her jumps, you have Rado who is a huge question mark especiallyw ith puberty attacks.. The oly champon really looks like a lost cause and not serious about competing not regaining her jumps. You have the inconsistent but gorgeous Pogo reminiscent perhaps of Maria B. Dangerously good when on and dangerously bad when off. You have baby jumper Satoko, and up anc omers in Marin, Honda and Bell who "just aren't ready". Forget about struggling to become women skaters in Lip or the grandmother who seems to be heading in the direction of Suguri in Leonova. That leaves the huge question mark in Kostner and Polina E. It seems Mirai has not solved her many problems. Really Med maybe the best we have folks. At least she is more special than also rans like Kimmie Meissner (sorry Kimmie if you are reading this). Nice skater but really snorefest.

Just took a look at the protocols...How did Medvedeva get the same GOE (+1.60) on her 3F-3T as Osmond?

A few random thoughts...Why so many ladies wearing white or slight variations thereof this year? The ladies who didn't really stood out. There was also an awful lot of "Walk like an Egyptian" hands all over the place.

Loved Osmond's choreo. A departure for her, but I think it sits really well on her. Already addressed my feelings about Medvedeva's choreo in another post, so I won't double up, but she certainly deserved the win.

Elizaveta didn't actually skate that badly, but that program had no performance quality whatsoever. She went through the motions and it looked like hard, hard work.

This may be the best I've liked Miyahara. But there's just something about her, to me, that isn't memorable. Maybe she needs to break out and do something totally different choreography wise.
