2016 World Championships Ladies SP

OMG OMG OMG! (I can keep shouting this out like a thousand time!)

GRACIE ASHLEY ANNA!!!!!!!!!!! My three favorite ladies deliver absolutely great performances in THIS SHORT PROGRAM ALTOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!

What makes me pleasantly surprised with this result is ANNA beats Medvedeva, which is rightfully so given their big differences between the jump qualities and skating skills.

:cheer: :party2:

Amazing to see all these ladies go clean, but I'm not enjoying this as much as I should. I think I just don't find this group of ladies all that inspiring, too hung up on the past with Yuna/Carolina/Mao at her best.

Biased viewer here, but I much preferred the performance quality of the 6th group (the veteran ladies) to that of the last one (the young guns). Interestingly enough, this is one of the very few times skaters from an earlier group got higher PCS.

I was thinking to myself while watching these performances that Yuna was wise to leave when she did and now I wonder if this is little more than farewell tour for Mao. I'm sure both her and Yuna would always represent themselves well but this large group of women are proving to be no slouches.

Flip was e imo but at least ! if you want to be lenient, don't think that qualifies as "nice" anywhere but America.

I have my own criteras and it says when Gracie doesn't end up on her butt, IT IS (it is bolded in my book) a nice flip. (there's some more in case it wasn't even a flip at first but you might not be interested).

Gracie and Ashley don't skate better than that. Glad to see them not taking themselves out. This is where they should have been all season. With them in top form it shows the rest of the field in a new light. Med is a promising newcome, but not equal to the wins and hype she has received. Satuko has been overscored to fill in the gap. Rad's poor skating skills are finally showing when compard to the others.

Pogoralya has the most character of the Rusians; glad to see her do so well. It's Gracie's to loose. She has the best designed free skate and she can skate it clean. I think she will win.

Personally, my problem isn't that there's now overscoring in the USA. It's that suddenly oh hey - overscoring is fine.

So overscoring is fine when it is the US ladies that are being overscored, but not fine when it's the Russians. Ok. So next time the Russians or Japanese get overscored I do believe we should expect everyone to shut up. It's either for everyone or no-one. So we should just all remember this moment and that's it.

If I were a judge:

1. Pogo
2. Ashley
3. Rika (well, okay, Radio, because if I were a judge I'd have to follow guidelines)

From my point of view: fair judgement.

Gracie Gold again a little overscored as expected, but i understand the context always makes the difference for home-country skaters and i've to say i love her short program (while her LP doesn't make sense).

I'm super happy for Pogorilaya: this year her programs are beautiful, much better than cheesy Radionova, costumes like a top model and when she is on, she flies. :yahoo:

Also i'm glad to see Miyahara with more realistic scores: her jumping technique isn't that great to put her on top.

Medvedeva: a mistake on the flip, i agree with the judges, good third place, she has the best LP in my opinion so hopefully with a clean performance she will get on the podium.

But WOW, i didn't see a competition like this since Sochi.

Very sad for Mao, but the top 3 consists only of my favorites! So excited for the FS. I want it badly for Gracie, but I think a clean skate from Evgenia with the usual tanos should cinch the win. And Anna winning...what a story that would be.

I hope the final standings are:
1) Gracie
2) Anna
3) Ashley

Doubtful but crossing my fingers!:hap10:

Two biggest headcases (hello Gracie and Anna) in the 1st and 2nd? Satoko in 6th? Who would have guessed?

I've accepted overscoring as a phenomenon we as skating fans have to accept. Russian ladies or US ladies....doesn't matter. Sometimes it'll hurt my faves and other times it'll help them.

What amazing skating we've seen today, the whole arena was electric, I could sense it from my computer. Stunning skating.
I am in shock that Gracie is on top. I would never have guessed that.
I think this may work for Ashley though, she will have her fire on in the LP and she loves her LP and although I don't love the music it works for her and it is perfect for her.
We have a US woman at the top after the SP, is this the first time since Sasha in 2006?

Rooting for Anna to win, she really shines when she's not falling out of spins or belly flopping. And it would be a great upset. :)

Very correct scoring here no major anomalies. PCS are inflated but consistent across the season. However the message is clear: Unless Gracie and Ashley wipe the floor in the LP, an American lady will be the World champion this year. And this will be the first one in 10 years. I can't believe the last World champion from US was Kimmie Meissner. LOL. I am not even sure who I prefer more Ashley or Gracie.
