You do not know why she chose this photo. It might be because of the moment and the memory of the moment. And the text? She could thank him personally - I do not see a reason to communicate with someone who is close to me via Instagram. I would not say that Martin is/was not important to her or just some one who lifted her and nothing more.

Just to clarify, this is not about her telling him "thank you" personally or not (I completely believe she did thank him). They're now public people and they use their instagram acounts not only for personal, but also PR/marketing reasons. And if you're ending some collaboration (business, sport or personal, no matter) it is absolutely common to offically, publicly thank your partner. Even more so, if you're ending the partnership "on good terms". This is not for him but for her audience, gesture of respect and gratitude. Now there are many explanations why she didn't: they may didn't split on good terms after all or she simply forgot or she just need a quick PR lesson

I agree.

However, after the upturn in fortunes that has been shown by some Ice Dancers after splitting with their sibling (eg. Chris Reed, Madison Hubbell), I wouldn't be surprised if others in a similar situation decided to try out somebody different.

For example, when I was looking at Ice Partner Search yesterday, I noticed that all 3 of the Schneider-Farris siblings were up. Joel has skated with both of his sisters over the years, in Pairs and in Dance. Admittedly, this is a strange situation, as the 3 siblings are looking different things out of their prospective partners, with only the youngest (Rebekah) looking at competing. But, the point I am making is they are all looking outside the family.

I don't want to open up the debate about the pros and cons of skating with your sibling. I'm just saying that some might want to try somebody different, just to see what it is like.

But, like you, I hope the Parsons siblings don't. Or the Shibutani siblings, for that matter.

After they already had separate partnerships with other ice dancers, Rachel and Michael made an active choice to form a partnership.

(Not necessarily true of other sibling partnerships, AFAIK.)

Don't worry, I remember that they are the exception to the general rule in that they had different partners first, and then decided to see what skating with each other was like, and liked it.

But, that was a long time ago, and a lot has changed since then. They have grown up; they have gone through Novice and Junior levels, and are now at Senior level.

They are undoubtedly different skaters to what they were before they got together. So, even though they have been there before, one of other may want to see what it is like skating with somebody different now.

The 7 year itch, if you like.

This is all hypothetical, of course. They may be happy enough to continue together for another quad or two (or three, or four - they are young enough!)

When you look at how they are doing, the partnership is working well. Which brings to mind that old phrase which I am a great advocate of:

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

I was surprised that nobody reacted to Garabedian/Proulx-Sénécal split, their partnership lasted quite 4 years. But they improved slowly (18th, 19th and 19th and Euros and 27th, 25th and 22nd at Worlds)

he is 7-8 years older than her isn't he? probably didn't want to go through another quad that would push him into his 30s.... she's only 20 now or so.. .she has time ahead of her.

I agree. They really impressed me live in Milan. I do not know either what's with this guy - does he think that he's that good comparing to his female partners and still searching for 'perfection'/standard he represents? If that is the case then...um, no.

I think if McNamara/Carpenter or the Parsons were splitting before next season, we would have an inkling by now. With US ice dance being as deep as it is, though, we may start seeing younger teams split more and more over the next few years.

Young teams will split more and more not because of the depth of US field but because of the politics playing major role in this sport instead of real skills especially at low levels.

Teams that no one expects to split split all the time. Just look at all the shock over Duskova/Bidar that lasted pages. I/K splitting after their OBM, Samuelson/Bates splitting after his injury, the list goes on. A lot of great junior teams won't end up making the climb together, and its hard to tell what the future holds. However, as least as it pertains to this season, I think that both DC teams are probably fine.

You also trained them (D/B) in Prague...
And it is a beautiful city, one of my most favourite in Europe, with nice people. I'd spend my whole holiday there with them.

You also witnessed their trainings in Hasa winter stadium, in temperatures close to 0 degrees Celsius. What did you say about it?
That you unconditionally must do something about it! Here in Pyeongchang it is most cold from the five Olympics I've been to, but this is nothing compared to the conditions in Prague. I know, you are a nation of ice hockey players, but you also have great figure skaters. And they can't be dressed as hockey players on the ice. To skate in such cold is a hazard with their health.

Because of possible injuries?
Definietly. They freeze there in the winter, their muscles are not properly heated up and then they can be easily injured. Even their coach had to undergo hip surgery. It's probably not good for her to work in such cold. These are not the conditions corresponding with their qualities, believe me.
