2017 Europeans Ladies FS

I don't understand why people attack Zhenia because of an extra triple  if she can do it, she does it. So?

It's kinda petty (both of Evgenia and of the people criticizing her for it) and a little disrespectful but that's what sports is about, right? She can do what she wants, as long she keeps winning. Humility be damned lol.

That said, I'm not sure we should be impressed by the 'superiority' of the gesture. I really wish she would stop 3T-ing the crap out of everything and start working on the quality of her existing elements. Or up her difficulty in more conventional ways and, y'know, stop relying on backloading and tanoing :slink:

She probably does this in practice and just got caught up in the moment. I'd cut her some slack. She seemed sort of embarrassed about with when Tomas asked her in the post-competition interview about it.

Still don't care for the program overall (especially the smiling, I agree there needs to be a bit more sadness and remorse in the second half), but this is not something to pick on her for...

But what's her goal of doing it? Judges and the public already know she's very consistent and can do multiple combinations.
It can be interpreted as arrogance and unprofessional.

I think the real question is, why does it bother you so much? :handw:

Is Evgenia's repeated combo and 3T intentional? Was she simply testing a contingency plan after she was pretty sure she was going to win? She is just getting better and better with each competition this season.

I cannot stand Maria's LP music. Even I could skate, I would fall asleep myself while skating. She needs better programs, and finally, the difference between Anna and her rightfully showed here. But considering her mighty height, the sheer fact she can jump is a wonder.

Caro is much better than expected. As the cliche says, good techniques can take you a long way. Her only issue seems to be stamina, which is to be expected at this moment. Her spins have never been that great though.

Overall, I am glad Anna finally got a silver.

But her difficulty is allright. And the quality is great too. Spins, jumps...She has everything.

All the ardent defenders of Evgenia's moving and respectful and totally classy terrorism program want to chime in here about smiling while she performed it?

Imagine having lost a loved one to terrorism, and hearing about this gorgeous, several-times-gold-medal-winning figure skating performance that offers a touching tribute to those who have also lost loved ones to terrorism...and then you see the skater smiling during it. :disapp:

she said program is about - send someone you love out there then never now if she/ he ever came back... so maybe this time it was a good news -who knows

she is having fun so what? I thing she allowed to be happy

It was interesting to watch Zhenya, Caro and Anna back to back.

Carolina is still the best skater of the three.

I hope she works on her Flip-Toe with Mishin. If she does the 3T-3T until the end of her career (like Liza does for years), I am disappointed.

I agree lol, my biggest confusion is why people are so hung up on Zhenia doing etra triple. She shows off what she can do and there is nothing wrong with that. The only reason is they dislike her no matter what. Heck I do not like Zhenia's programs this season, her SP is even worse to me. But doing extra 3T is not a reasonable reason to bother a discussion lol.

It's a competition with clear RULES for everyone, not an exhibition.

Yes, there are rules and penalties and the skaters are aware of those penalties & can do what they want with that information. They're not going to jail for doing an "illegal" combo. Surya Bonaly did an illegal backflip in competition, Florent Amodio skated to music with lyrics before it was allowed. Life went on. What do you want her to do, get her on knees and apologize?

Jeeez, the rules were applied. Otherwise, please tell us which one she violated ?

As I understood she didn't apply the rules, that's why she got a deduction.
Anyway, if she does it in purpose, she does impress me but negatively.
If it was an accident, as she is doing this a lot in practice, I can understand.

But...what if the RULES will change?:eeking::eek::drama:

She showed a more difficult content there...I agree that it wasn't right, but to say that Alina's PCS is a "joke" in my opinion can be used when a skater's skating is BAD, but hers is not.
Then I will put it that way: the high 8's in every PC criteria in the FS were not fully justified in my opinion. She can get there of course, she has the content but the execution isn't top notch.

But...what if the RULES will change?:eeking::eek::drama:
Well, I suppose this is the idea behind :D. They want to push a change of rules in this sense.
As no lady can consistently land triple axel or quads and the field requires an evolution...

Well, to me, the rules wouldn't have been applied if she hadn't got the deduction and if she had been rewarded points for the extra 3toe.

My understanding is that the rules state that the jump here should be invalidated, and it was.

The Medvedeva Machine rolls on. Yes, her programs are cheesy, but she is a charming skater despite the material she is given. If she continues on her winning path, she will be counted among the best of all time.

She is having fun in a program about tragedy.
If she wants to have fun, maybe she/her team should have chosen a different theme. It comes across as disrespectful.

Was at work, so only got to watch Carolina & Anna live.

There was indeed #Justice4Pogo today! Yeeeeyyyyy!!! Suck on that Russian federation. Carolina was a queen as always.

I'm gonna watch Laurine's program just for the costume change, but are there any other women worth watching? Apparently Sotskova had a splatfest and Medvedeva still has the terrible program, so no gracias.

Cut her some slack, she's 30yo in less than 2 weeks. Carolina is the most polished skater ever. Amazing line, amazing posture.
I think with a clean 3Lo, she would have score about 4-5 points more, which will put her at 142-143 in the LP. That will be very competitive in any World championship.

Maria's line and posture is similar to Carolina's actually. She looks really good, but her jumps are so questionable. The 3F-1Lo-3Sal, the 3Sal should have been at least < if not <<. So many jumps were short.

Lorena Hendrickx is worth watching!
