2017 GP Skate Canada Ladies FS

She did 2 FCCoSp, so the second one was invalid Then her 3rd spin was a CCoSp, which becomes invalid because one of the 3 spins must be a spin in one position.

Wow, that's a hell of a brain fart on her part. Keeping track of jumps can be complicated, but losing track of spins? Wow

I am in no way saying that that she should have told that to Anna  But it is interesting, usually the K&C is fairly reserved with the real comments happening in a private setting. This conversation was also clearly not intended to be heard by us, they had no idea the mics could pick up their conversation. I think both of them are really frustrated and manifesting this in unhealthy ways. Perhaps Anna should swich her coach. Regardless, I don't want to be quick to judge.

How old is Anna? Maybe she's used to being spoken to in this way. Maybe I'm too fragile but, I couldn't have taken being told by my coach that she was leaving me because I performed badly. This is a sport and people win and lose at every single event. This will happen again and can you imagine how Anna will feel taking the ice when she knows her coach will leave her if she falls again. It's hard for me to even think about.......I just wish her the best..

She's 19.

This has been one of the worst GPs ever for Ladies'....I'm glad it's over and we can move on.

I honestly won't judge Anna's coach before we really know the truth, Anna has had several meltdowns by now, this is an Olympic year, she needs to get her act together. Fragility just won't cut it. I've not known any skater who hasn't been injured but they all grit their teeth and come back, even if they under perform, eg. Reynolds, Tut, Dennis, Nathan, ...you just got to be mentally tough to be a top athlete and keep climbing that mountain.

Here's hoping the mens and pairs threads will not be filled with blaming assumptions about the skaters or anything remotely political!! I come here for positive reports and thoughts on competitions. Also for analysis on jumps since I can't tell a double from a triple! And I watch IN with no commentary. This thread has kinda ruined it for me.

Gee what has Ladies's skating devolved into these days?
No one picks interesting music, no one can hold things together for two programs. The current top skater who can skate clean has extremely laboured jumps and a never-fully-extended free leg.
I admire you people who still follow Ladies' singles faithfully. I haven't been able to finish anyone's programs this season.

It's unheard of for me but sometimes I skip the ladies now. I look for to the whole men's, dance and some of the pairs more than I do the ladies. Ladies use to be the most important field for me....weird.

Kaetlyn had a couple of mistakes but it think everything else was good. The program is very intense and I think the feeling kind of stayed there despite the mistakes. I hope and believe it will get cleaner, because she wont get a medal at olympics with this perfomance.
Ashley's third place is ok to me, she is so entertaining and I get so happy when I watch her :)

Just to give context to what Anna's coach said. It was a back and forth. First Anna said the coach was distracting her when she was skating, then her coach replied that she won't go to her next event if that's the case. So it's not that black and white, they were just generally mad at each other.

Thanks for this context. On the face of it, it did seem pretty outrageous.

I thought the politics threads were closed here. Not only I have to check, clutching my pearls, all the new stations this weekend with the huge breaking news. But I come here to distract myself and here we go again.
Totally get it. I apologize for my part in it.

Thanks. I didn't quite believe Coach Anna would be this cruel. There is a difference between bickering and unilateral banishment at the most vulnerable time of a young person.

I missed Marin's free skate and all of the videos seemed to be blocked. :( Her score wasn't that high given all the praise I'm seeing for it.

I see many people angry with Osmond's score but i've to say i was expecting something like this: usually messy free skate with one fall and a couple of stumbles but enough to win (even the free skate which is very controversial.

What makes me mad about it, I expected Kaitlyn to win with mistakes but seeing all of the other girls...every one...be judged SO harshly, (never in my life have I seen so many 80s free skate scores in one place) and then kaitlyn get the highest score of the night with glaring mistakes is just ridiculous and blatant home favoritism. I would be furious if I were any of the other skaters! Let's hope that at kaitlyns next Grand Prix she is judged according to the same standard as everyone else is...

Maybe, just maybe...Anna Tsareva seems also a bit 'young' to me. I never got the 'parent/child' dynamic with these two than what I see with other coaches and their students. Maybe Anna is immature and doesn't do what Tsareva tells her. But can you imagine a coach like Aratunian being played like this by a student? If Anna Tsareva isn't able to have a certain kind of (respectful) authority over Anna, then she's also to blame. Acting huffy in KnC, as a coach, seems rather immature and problematic.

I know what you mean, and I agree with you. But as someone who has been involved in competitions of both sport and artistic kinds, with the stress and nerves that follow competing, during practises I've been told a lot of things by coaches. Sometimes this made me go home in tears, sometimes (usually) it made me really angry and lit a fire under my butt to try harder. Despite being told various things, I cannot call my coaches bad people. I also cannot say that such a thing is completely healthy. But stress does tend bring out the worst in people a lot of the time. Anyway, like I said, due to my own experiences I don't want to be quick to judge, but I don't know their relationship. If this is something that is happening constantly and it is breaking Anna down, obviously she should change coaches. But only the two of them know how things really are.

I think people are a little harsh on Anna T. I looked it up she's been coaching Anna P. since 2004, if Anna P and her parents didn't care for how Anna T was I'm sure they wouldn't have stuck around for 13 years.

Anyway, my internet hated me and made me miss almost half the competition in the middle, so I only saw Rika's performance now. It was good but definitely not her best. I think she was really nervous and/or tired and her energy really only showed up at the very end. Her performance at Ondrej Nepela Trophy was definitely better, but this is still quite good. Hopefully she'll be even better in Japan! :cheer:

I think her PCS seemed suspiciously low, in the lower half of all the ladies which is not quite accurate, IMHO. But I guess that is to be expected since it's her debut skate... :disapp:
