2017 Worlds Free Dance

Honestly if Madison were a little younger and ice dance in the USA weren't SUCH a bloodbath I'd think she should consider trying to find a new partner. It seems to me it's always him who's falling all over the place.

That certainly wasnt the case at US Nationals this year...

EDIT: Although I remember GPF last year now...

To me it is interesting that had W/P got the PCS in the short that they deserved they probably would have gotten the bronze medal here! But it does go to show that you need to build a good rep throughout the year. Had they made the GPF again and or done better at 4CC they probably would have gotten the higher PCS that they use to get.

Really gutted for Maddie and Zach, happiest for P/C that they got that monkey off their back and won the FD, that was magical, glad that V/M now are three time world medalists :yahoo:

EDIT: So before all of us as witnesses they literally gave the small bronze medal for the FD to B/S? Ancientpeas said it best. This was the strangest most roundabout way to get to the precisely predicted results, I think I need a break. It was special :agree:.

So what does WeaPo need to fight for a place on the podium?

Change to a country that doesnt consider them #3. Believe it or not I think to the CSA they are #3 behind Gilles & Poirier. Notice how at Nationals they had lower PCS than G&P, the only place that happened.

Also make up a story they are long lost siblings from long ago, and just realizing that now, so they get a bonus 10 points each competition before setting foot on the ice for the cute story of being siblings like Shibutanis seem to.

I get that dance is really 'competitive' today, and that makes it marginally interesting, but I miss the Grishuk/Platov era when teams actually had dramatically different free skates from one another. It was hard to watch Shibutanis, P&C and V&M one after another, and then closing the event with a medley of heinous adult contemporary cover songs by Hubbell and Donohue? No thanks.

...and it's become so polite and sanitary. Instead of everyone training with each other and smiling when they get beaten by rinkmates who fell, ice dancers used to be full-on divas that got into barfights and trashed each other in the media. Those were the days.

So pumped for P/C, this is the perfect result for them in terms of motivation for the Olympic season! They need to work their butts off but at least they know Olympic Gold is not out of reach.

You guys thought I was nuts when I said the tech team would help Bobrova Soloviev because they were beyond help.

Well, they finished THIRD in the FD, mostly on TES (Shibs got a -1).

Spain got 1 olympic spot and Maia and Alex the bronze medal!!!! :hap93::yahoo:.
I should not see my favorites competing, my arms were numbness, I thought I was having a stroke :hpull::eekn:

Was it her at Nats? I might stand partially corrected then...

I used to be a huge fan of these two 3-4 years ago, but I both saw them in person and was less impressed with them live (though I suspect/hope they've improved since then) and their inconsistency has started to wear me down. I do still wish the best for them but it's hard not to feel frustrated.

Oh no!! That twizzle sequence will be INVALID. Bronze is now the Shibs. Poor Zach.

OMG shibsibs must be in shock about their teammates. And poor Weapo once again loses a major medal by inches. A bit surprised the Shibsibs barely won bronze. Disapointing for V and M freeskate but hopefully that will make them work harder. P/C must feel confident. Oh the fall from grace for H/D so close then wham they closed the gap with the second Russian team inching closer to the almight top 9. 3 to 9th and now maybe 10th are really interchangeable. One would expect Chock and Bates and the Shibsibs to be the political and skating leaders for bronze but really I don't know. I think Weapo need to find a new coach and get a great vehicle because for the first time I realized they are really good skaters - j ust need the right vehicle. I am not sold on C/L; i feel I see and done that. The Russians B/S have stagnated but I do see potential - again they need their levels (a Russian issue? and the right vehicle.

VM got similar scores to what they have all season, and that was with a freak fall from Scott. Makes me think the judges were ready to give them huge scores. Can't say I enjoyed this competition very much. Poor HD. I was even more excited for them.

Cool to see WP rise back up a little, and PC saved the night for sure.

They are also Russian #1 so get that help. Weaver & Poje are not even Canadian #2 but #3 politically (still #2 in international results since there is only so much even a fed can do for a team like Gilles & Poirier), Capelinni & Lanotte are from weak fed. who put all their backing behind Kostner, and Chock & Bates are U.S #2 or #3 now.

With B/S getting 3rd in the Free Dance it is just setting them up nicely for next year. I mean what would an Olympic Dance event be without a RUS team getting a medal!

They definitely should have. Shibs are truly one of the most overscored teams in ice dancing history though so it is no surprise. W&P can take heart they skated well and that they are the real bronze medalists of this event, farce judging aside.

Glad to see Papadakis & Cizeron have a great free dance. First time all season long they looked like the real them. If they fix their short dance issues, which if we are being real they have had their whole career, remember they havent even won a short dance at Europeans yet, LOL, they can still battle Virtue & Moir for the OGM next year for sure.

So sad Hubbell & Donohue could not take this HUGE opportunity. With their best dance they would have gotten bronze and wow what a boost for next year. Instead they finish below Gilles & Poirier, and remain distant U.S #3 even with Chock & Bates sliding down in the world order. Ouch.

I have to disagree with this comment. IMO, The Shibs are a bit like Rachael Flatt. They simply don't give anything away or leave points on the ice. From a judging standpoint, you have to give credit where it is do. This was a wild event in almost every element. With the exception of Med, none of the defending champions skated their best here. Dance still hasn't aired on the west coast so, I haven't seen any of the programs.....I am surprised to hear about Scott's mishap on a footwork sequence.....
