The GP event that takes place in France. This year’s is coming up in a few weeks. I can only remember that Zhenya will skate there.

Hate seeing them cry probably because I've gotten older but when I see this I become hyper aware of how young they are, despite all they do and have achieved, and it must be awful for them.

Kaori's falls also looked like it really hurt too, especially the second one.

Well, if the RD is a disaster, then it’s clear the whole event has to die so the men’s competition can live. If the ice dancers don’t splat as hard and as frequently as they did at SCI, then I think we’re just in one of those weird timelines.

Sakamoto-san definitely needs a concussion check. Better to be safe than sorry.. please withdraw if things do t look good. It’s only the first season after the Olympics.. you can fight again when you feel better!

I really hope Kaori is okay. That hitting her head on the ice can't be good. She said she was okay but please don't do something stupid by skating when you're not feeling well. If she can do it tho then give us the chills like in Skate America in the FS.

I'm not worried for Alina. It's not unusual, she'll make it in the FS

Agreed. Alina will be fine, she had those issues with SP last season, too. She‘ll totally slay the FP tomorrow with a clean, perfect Carmengitova!

I‘m really worried about Kaori, though. I really hope she is healthy. It‘s so sad for her. Please be fine, Kaori!!

Like I said, an official came over, per protocol, and asked her to recite some numbers backward, but Kaori said it was a language issue (I think) and returned to practice.

Check the In the Loop Twitter feed. I’m pretty sure that’s where I read about what happened.

I think there are very few skaters who can do a 3Loop-3T combination, so it's not suprising she fell on that one too. I wish she had changed that to a 3T-3T or 3Loop-2T.

well if they let Hanyu skate at CoC years ago right after that horrible crash, i doubt there is.

Seeing Alina and Kaori cry was hard for me, so sad for them.

In the end of the day it was a rough SP for all, Alina went by without a 3-3, which today is practically a miracle.

I hope Kaori is OK, she looked fine when she took to the ice so I don’t think the fall from yesterday is an issue but we will see.

What teenager performing at a high level in their sport isn't going to do everything they can to partipicate?

Kaori is 18, yes? And considered an adult? Pressure can be applied from her coach and federation, but at the end of the day, I don’t think ISU can mandate she withdraw (it’s not like they’d foot the expense), go to hospital (see prior note), etc., or force her to stay off the ice during practice... as if she’s a registered participant in the competition, she can’t be denied the same access to ice time as others.

I’m not saying she’s doing the right thing, nor do I know if she’s actually injured versus this just being a bad skate, but there’s actually not much the ISU itself can do. They could incentivize proper health and make it extremely unappealing for skaters to compete if injured, but that clearly hasn’t happened.

This event was such a nightmare that I can't sleep. And it's 1:38 AM here. And I'm not even at home. And I am forced to get up at 7. Help.

On the other hand, it'd be nice to catch the RD live (and check whether the curse applies to the dancers as well, god I hope not)... :think:
