Well, I'm thoroughly unhappy with this result. I wanted Sui/Han to win and Tarasova/Morozov and Duhamel/Radford on the podium alongside them.

I'm sure all those people who were happily spewing such venomous hatred at Tarasova/Morozov last night are busily glorying in their misfortune...

You would think that after bizarre scheduling (that sacrifices Europe, Asia and skaters themselves) to suit American TV audience they would actually bother to show competition extensively. I guess not.

So happy for Aliona and Bruno :') a very well deserved win!!! I was gutted after they were 4th in the SP, because I wasn't convinced they could make up that many points in the Free, but they certainly defied my expectations!

Disappointed for Sui/Han - would have loved to see a clean Turandot from them at this event, but I'm glad they did enough for 2nd place.

Not really a big fan of the Canadians, but that quad throw did have me applauding like crazy. Kudos to them for a second medal at these games!

I thought the judging overall for the top teams was very fair, and find it difficult to believe that people are still crying conspiracy. The Chinese team lost not because they are Chinese, but due to several clear errors in the FS. It wasn't the podium I expected, but it's the one that reflects the performances delivered at this event.

Whole-heartedly agree with your assessment. The Germans were fantastic and pretty much perfect. Although I prefer the Chinese, I have to agree that their 2 small mistakes opened the door for the Germans and ended with silver. I am not a fan of the Canadians but they did their job very well and deserved bronze. The Russians. Sigh. That was truly sad. Poor Evgenia looked devastated. As much as I loved their SP, that Candy Man LP was not Olympic caliber. Plus it was so different from their style and what they do best as demonstrated in the SP. I hear that Nina Mozer pushed it; not sure if that's fact. Their technical errors were the cause of their 4th place finish but the choice of music certainly didn't help their components. All in all, a fair competition!

O.57 is a very small margin to win gold. Im sure if Sui/ Han were the European ones the judges would have made that margin in their flavor instead. I bet they have tweaked their marks to ensure they would be behind the Germans. Also its ridiculous that the German pcs are better than Sui/ Han. The Germans connection and chemistry is as authentic as Evgenia Medvedeva miming. Its incomparable to Sui/ Han genuine connection with each other. I think the Germans are two beautiful skaters but their connection is so forced and fake, not surprising especially when you see the difference between them off ice. People talk about the emotion of their program. I mean, compare that with Sui/Han Bridge over troubled water, its so inferior.

1. All of PCS is not merely a "connection to each other" mark
2. Sui did have a stumble, which is "supposed to" mar PCS slightly anyway (and note: S/H did come out ahead on PCS in the short)
3. They are not being judged on the "authenticness" of their connection using off-ice evidence
4. Nobody performed the Bridge Over Troubled Water program here

In any close result there is certainly legitimate room for argument on either side; opinions are fine, and disappointed feelings are understandable. but for the argument it is better to stick to what is actually relevant.

Convenient how the judging is done so that S/M just BARELY got the gold. After that short, even with Sui/Han's errors, I would have given it to S/H...

OR... an alternative (albeit less convenient?) way to interpret it is that S/M just barely won the gold because they just barely outperformed the other team, having made one mistake that was, in the final shakedown, just barley less big then the ones S/H did, all while displaying many qualities that put them otherwise overall on pretty much an even level with the silver-medal team (even though each has their own particular strengths relative to the other as is always the case among close competitors in any figure skating competition.)

You know to be honest, I am not THRILLED either, as a hardcore Russian fan, I am absolutely devastated for evgeniya and Vladimir but what happened has happened and we need to move on. They need to move on too, to achieve even greater things in Beijing 2022, that is, if they plan on sticking around for another four years
But, honestly speaking, Savchenko deserves her gold, Aljona and Bruno’s program was magnificent and they deserve it. What a moment for Aljona, after 5 olympics, she finally gets her gold. We should be happy for them and support evgeniya and Vladimir and Russian skating too of course. But anyway, just my two cents.

I think Zhenya and Vlad will be brilliant in Beijing. This will motivate them for the next four years. Look for them to be world champions at least once.

And let's not forget, they're not going home completely empty-handed, they have a team silver and they should be proud of that brilliant short there!!

I am hoping they convert their Rach 2 SP (a thing of beauty) into a full FS. It should be glorious.

Aljona & Bruno. My goodness. I was absolutely thrilled for them, and the other medalists too. I almost looked like Meagan bouncing up and down on the podium, but the difference was that I was at home with my husband drinking wine in a far less glamourous setting.

I don´t especially like the skating of Savchenko & Massot because of her, but thought that based on the freeskate they deserved to win. They had a good starting number, a good place for skaters with a fighting spirit to put down a great skate and "disturb the rest". It was great to watch how emotional they both were after the win was clear.

Personally I really love Sui & Han and hoped for their win. Surprising to me that Tarasova & Morozov did not manage to keep their act together...

Also congratulations to Duhamel & Bradford for a medal!!!

No matter what happened in this OG, it has gone, hope lovely S/H be more strong and far away from injury.

I just watched how it went down. Oh, my God! What an event. Aljona made me cry of joy and I loved-loved Valentina's spirit. She enjoyed this experience sooooo much.
Aww, the Chinese broke my heart. I hope they make it to the next Olympics and come out of it with gold, they can do it, they are great. Aljona is the definition of perseverence and showed all the doubters you can make it happen.

Congratulations to Aliona and Bruno for winning gold!

I was actually wanting to see Sui/Han take it because I love their programs, but I cannot be unhappy that Aliona finally got her gold. Admittedly I was a big fan of Savchenko/Szolkowy and it kind of hurt to see how things went down after Sochi. But Aliona still had the dream of the gold and with her partner wanting to retire, she had to get another one to keep her dream alive. To get a skater that had not been at her caliber before and for them to come together and basically immediately get huge results is amazing. To win the gold is through the roof. Aliona is definitely an inspiration and a legend. Bruno has done an excellent job and kudos to him for getting it all together. I know the pressure must have been immense and he handled it all well. Happy for them both. Aliona's reaction is just one of the Olympic moments you wish to see. Definitely memorable.

Glad Duhamel/Radford made the podium as well.

I want to add that S/H got more points in composition than S/M. :sarcasm:I think if something deserves a 10.00 in composition than this S/M FP.

S/M won because of the technical mark especially with their SBS jumps (unusal for Aljona). The judges were slightly on the Chinese side today.

S/M do all their big throws and jumps at the beginning of the program and then all the other, easier pair skating elements. In that way it's a poorly choreographed program and I'm glad the judges noticed that.

Perhaps, but they also do a lot of transitions in and out too, so I suppose that's why they did it. But again, I'm looking at the overall program, not just the jump elements.

I wonder what lays ahead for T/M. It is for certain that S/K are continuing and definitely leaving Mozer camp after the Worlds. Mozer is also fell out of favour with RusFed and will lose most of her state funding after this year. Will T/M bail? If so, where are both S/K and T/M will go?

Look at the protocols, man. The judges were definitely willing to give it to Sui/Han, and it would have went to them too if not for the Technical controller. Just look at the GOE on both "dinged" spin and lift!

But that would 100% spark another Pairs judging controversy that nobody wants to witness again... except the media . Can't speak for them, but doubt they would want the gold if it came with an asterisk.

Good words! The technical panel saved pair skating from another controversal result! Thank God.

The GOE for Sui/Han were pushed too the maximum. Even the last shaky lift got +3.
