2018 Olympic Figure Skating Pairs SP

I really don't wan't Aliona to self-implode. Their most likely way to get over 160 is just to skate their layout at GPF. And still, Sui/Han would have to make mistakes for them to win, EVEN if they do score 160.

There is almost no way to the Gold for S/M. They should try to skate like in Nagoya and save the Bronze and hope for mistakes of the others.

With 157 points in the FS. Sui/Han need 152 to win. This is not easily done!

With Aljona's 4STh there is definitly no way because she will fall!

They dont deserve it

Deserving it is a lol. Aliona doesn't deserve an OGM either. Virtue and Moir should have two individual golds but once again they are destined for silver. A lot don't deserve it but they get it anyways - in part because who deserves it depends on point of view.

Just woke up (the sun is about to rise where I'm at) and checked the results and these are my exact thoughts. Oh, and also happy for Ryom/Kim. The SP is fab and I'm glad they skated it well.

But I WANT ALJONA TO GET HER GOLD  but I also want everybody to skate clean(ish) in the free and I know these two wishes are mutually exclusive (or should you say 'incompatible'? My English brain hasn't properly woken up yet)
Your English brain is working just fine; both are correct! I wish Aljona her gold, and Vanessa and Morgan a medal. [emoji22]

Afraid these things won't happen. But all will be revealed tomorrow!

I have to say I am cheering for the underdogs I am sick and tired of the negativeness to wards T/M and Candyman as well as Duhamel and Radford. Yet people are quick to praise others.

De gustibus non est disputandum.

Though the older I get, the more I think there just may be exceptions to that particular rule.

They can't get 160 with their GPF layout
And they can't get 160 with 2 Quads and an axel unless they land them +GOEs

Quads and Axels are not rewarded with sufficient BV in Pairs

Their 3twist scores 7.80, 4twist2 is 8.00 and 4twist3 is 8.60, Can they even get +GOE?

Their good Throw3Z scores 7.20, a Throw3A is 7.70, They usually land it on two feet so -GOE

Their good Throw3S scores about 6 points, If they could master an average 4S that'll give them 8.20
Which is the most substantial difference of the three elements,
But a likely fall will put them at 5.20 with -1

Sui & Han and Tarasova & Morozov both were just amazing, beautiful programs, chemistry and their skating pleasing to the eye to watch (not too much difference in height)!!!

3-6 are really close to each other, the fs will be sooo exciting...

Maybe she thinks they will get Bronze evem with fall because of the BV... Might be.

If they want to go for the 4Tw. Ok. Could bringt two extra points with level 3 and +2GOE

But there is no way that the throws will bring extra points since she will land it on two feet and influence their overall perfomance.

Commenting having seen the top 14 but not the Koreans:

This was one of the better events I've seen for a long time in terms of few meltdowns.

Alexa is great, but Chris Knierem... doesn't have fluid movement and messes up his jumps. Time and again, it seems.

Both Italian teams appeared to do about as well as they could, and I thought their technical elements were solid.

Zabiiako and Enbert have matured. That version of "Summer of '42" is gorgeous, and they had small flourishes that showed attention to detail without being too subtle nor too overt.

James and Cipres often bring it in terms of attitude, but I didn't get much positive energy from them. It seemed like they were not emoting and perhaps nervous. A surprisingly subdued and uninspiring skate.

Yu and Zhang didn't impress me as much as earlier in the season in terms of musical interpretation, but their TES was obviously great.

Bruno threw away points and then seemed a bit less expressive than normal for that program.

Duhamel and Redford were not rock solid on some landings, but the main takeaways for me were a lack of unison on the side-by-side jumps and some choreography and Meagan over-emoting, especially in the second half. I don't think I would ever find them to be that pleasing to watch, but their song choices just don't do them favors. Still, I give them credit for not committing major errors.

Tarasova and Morozov have great lines and were so secure in what they did.

Sui and Han gave what I thought was the best performance of the night, though some of their technical elements didn't have a real wow factor. Once their program hit about the five-second mark, I found myself thinking, "They're really special and so much better than anyone that's been out on the ice so far."

I agree that it's amazing for the team in ninth place to not be too far from getting up to third. I hope the long programs are well skated.

I'd be more than happy with the top three staying as they are. The internet meltdown would be glorious.

1. People keep talking about Aljona going for broke and doing difficult elements but we have to remember Bruno also has to perform a his max level. He needs to land the single and combo jumps too. His doubling the SBS salchow was a costly error. They are also at disanvantage for the FS since they are going to be the bench mark for the last 3 teams. The only way to put pressure on the other teams is too skate lights out.

2. FS has been T/M's weakness so they still need to skate solid to even secure the silver because S/M or D/R can still overtake them. T/M is also the team were if they skate good they get rewarded in PCS but if they skate bad, the judges don't hesitate to lower their PCS too unlike S/M or S/H even if they miss the elements they still get very good PCS. Skating after 3 melodramatic programs is also a good news for them.

3. D/R is the team who needs to go for broke because their PCS ain't gonna held them up. TES has always been their strongest and this is the time for them to show the quad and 3axel throw and hope that T/M and S/M makes errors.

My prediction

1. S/H
2. S/M
3 T/M

As i read this i had an image of Aliona landing 2 Quads and a 3A
followed by Bruno singling his SBS3S :slink:

Just watched the recorded BESP live broadcast. Very high quality competition, lots of big scores. Only 2.82 between 3rd and 9th, it’s all very close.

It’s nip and tuck for the first two, the have opened up a gap on the chasers but they could still be caught. The difference in TES is due to the base value of their throws, flip v loop. I thought the Russians had the better twist, lift and throw. I thought the Chinese programme had more of an impact towards the end.

D/R have the base value but everything is a bit sloppy and so the suffer on GOE. I think this is a better vehicle for them, they are trying to show a different side to them but when you see them against other top pairs they just lack finesse. I was surprised that Chris on BESP said they have worked so hard to improve Eric, I would have thought it was the other way round.

S/M are very much in contention. Bruno and the 2S really hurt and thought he looked nervous after that. He looked quite upset in the K&C, I hope she is nice to him. She only wants gold but he would be happy with a medal. Th programme is choreographed well to hide his weaknesses. I thought the French looked a bit flat. The Italian teams both skated well, M/H programme is cheesy but I really enjoyed and so did they and the audience.

I think Y/Z were under marked on PCS, I would have them 3rd, they are at least a match for D/R in PCS. I was disappointed to see the Aussies (very low PCS), the Austrians and China no. 3 not qualify. I’m not sure I like S/B new styles, it doesn’t feel like them, it’s all a bit to Montreal for me.

Roll on the free and come on Candyman🎉👏🤞
