2018 Olympic Figure Skating Short Dance

For anyone still not sure what's going to happen:
PC will win the FD with a massive score, deserved or not and thus the gold. Judges made sure to keep them close with that hot mess of a program, twizzle mistake and all, and highest PCS when they were totally distracted and hardly performing

Okay yet another person agrees. Why are the judges doing this. How much power does the French Fed have? And why does it matter so much? I am sorry no one held up Chan because he is old and can't do the quads or Adam who like Chan is a beautiful skater. This could mirror the pairs. Where yes, the free skate was deservedly won by the Germans but they should have been lower in the short program and would have lost by a l ittle bit. Oh dear gosh, this is it - it is going to be like the pairs. Because the first event the judges feel sympathy they hold the weaker team in the short up but if they hold them up too high they make it hard for the team that should be leading by more to win. It is deja vu all over again:(

Gaby used to sell this program so well! Imagine losing the OGM because of a costume malfunction! Yes, I know, they have a gorgeous FD which could win, but they might be too nervous come tomorrow to create the magic as they usually do.

I just rewatched Tessa and Scott, their no touching steps is surreal, their edges and steps and turns are perfectly synchronised. Literally Olympic level.

But what is the point. The judges want to give it the French. WE all know V and M needed a three point lead. I think at best when both teams are relatively on they should tie ; judges need to stop looking at the music and look at the skating even though the French took the Classical warhorse approach you can hate Moulin Rouge but the skating and ienterpretation is awesome. Hopefully the judges will reward all the changes to MR but I doubt it. I am heart broken because I really think V and M deserve it but life is curel and unfair.

Yes, and about time the judges got the memo. B/S have no place in that final flight. As I said before these are the OGs, athletes work too hard for politics to interfere with scoring. The judges got it right in my book tonight.

Maybe but neither do the Italians. Should be Weaver and Poje.

No, I don't. I think they should be more in the +2s than +3s. The only pair atm deserving of +3s in twizzels are the Shibs when they're on.

But given P/C's twizzle score in this comp, V/M totally deserved their points.

Judging always seems relative in that way. I couldn't see the difference in quality between P/C's twizzles and V/M's in the replay. They both seemed to have small errors. It looked to me like V/M were out of sync in the first part, and it looked to be like P dropped out of the twizzle too early or too late at one point. But I'm not sure what fault is more serious, or how Ice Dancing scores/levels/etc are calculated. It's a big mystery to me. Personally, I liked V/M's twizzles better of the two pairs when I was watching the programs (not in slow mo). And it felt right that V/M were in the lead after the SD.

I wish everybody the best tomorrow. P/C are my favorites because their poetic and emotional performances move me and their skating skills amaze me more than the others. But, I'll be very happy for the V/M fans if they win the gold tomorrow. They are unquestionably spectacular.

On the other hand, I really don't like the weird conspiracy theories I've seen online about P/C. I think it's scary that people put that kind of energy out into the world. Gabriella and Guillaume are amazing, just like Tessa and Scott are.

I wish they'd crack down hard on crap like that. Like fines and suspensions for not judging the performance in front of you. Require re-certification. But it's just so ingrained in figure skating. I guess the top feds may also feel like reputation scoring benefits them all relatively equally as well.

I agree, I think there needs to be real consequences for stuff like this. This is such an obvious example of completely biased scoring — and I'm being kind by using the word "biased". In no universe can any judge justify a +3 for those twizzles tonight. This is the kind of thing that has people saying the fix is in and there's a conspiracy afoot. And you really can't blame anyone for thinking that when these scores are right there in black and white.

Has there ever been an Olympics where the top European couple wasn't accused of skullduggery by the NA media and fans?

Thanks for your answer. As regarding your last part, I don't think the conspiracy theories are aimed at P/C, but more to the French federation etc (which would not be the first time...). I really like P/C as persons and they are magnificent skaters for sure. But in this competition, the point gap should be larger and P/C were awarded more points than they deserved. And it's not only unfair to V/M but all the other teams as well. I only can imagine how they feel watching a team earn so high points for no specific reason (related to the actual skating) whatsoever. It's just frustrating.

I honestly never get the hate on Moulin Rouge. Yes it is warhorse, but goodness me can you see the interpretation and the technical mastery in the program??? The steps and the lifts are insanely good. This is the best Moulin Rouge ever, this is Moulin Rouge on ice. They have no equal.

That's my major problem with H/D. They are good performers, which I think hides some of the sloppiness in their skating. Not a fan of their FD either.

But...but..but..it's sexy! And it's hot! And it's uhm...uh...but it's sexy and hot! And hot and uhm...uh...sexy!

Did I mention how sexy and hot it is?

I don’t think Tessa hit that choctaw well enough to get the level 4, BUT the French’s PCS were overscored for that tentative skate. I think the scoring differential is correct as it stands. Neither team can afford mistakes, and they can have AT MOST one level 3, if they hope to win gold.

I would agree but the judges have been unfairly scoring it appears the French so high because they have a classical supposedly high brow warhorse versus something more unusualy with MR by Virtue and Moir

On another note, I wish the broadcasters would have had more common sense than to show Gabby's nipple in the replays. It shows bad taste and is really unfair to her. No one needs to see that.

Yes, yes. Anyone outside of NA in ice dance is undeserving and corrupt.

Second verse, same as the first.

Okay, looks like someone needs a time out or chill pill. It has nothing to do with NA or European or Australian for that matter.

W/P have one of if not my favourite sentimental SDs and even I thought they were a bit tight and sloppy in places. I just don't think Morozov was fully invested in this team. His work with them has been uneven at best. OTOH, I really thought C/L just skated out of their skins tonight. Bobrova's lack of style, and poor posture just bit her in the but tonight. Just goes to show Zhulin is good but he can't work miracles. In a perfect world though B/S should be at least closer to W/P.
