What power? At europeans I saw them live and they were the slowest couple in the top 10. He is great, yes. But Gabby... Well, I can say that she is better than Madi at least.

See this is where I have a problem with P/C. Gabby's skating skills are not of the very top echelon and not equal to Guillaume so that shoudl be reflected in the score (pcs). But it isn't. Which is why and how the french will win gold.

I would agree but the judges have been unfairly scoring it appears the French so high because they have a classical supposedly high brow warhorse versus something more unusualy with MR by Virtue and Moir

Scott and Tessa's FD is gorgeous and high-octane... but Moulin Rouge is unusual? Whaaaaaat?

Their score in Skating skills is not the problem here. We agree that theirs are one of the best. Its the Perfromance, interpretation and compostion scores that people are questioning here. With that performance did they actually deserve so high score? A lot of lower teams have better performance than PC. They may have inferior SS than P/C but sure as heck they had better performance

I disagree because of Gabby they do not deserve top SS. When one sater is noticeably better or stronger that is not good for dance.

Thank you for this post. I always feel like some outcast when I don't overlook their weaknesses (they skate so far apart from eachother), because I don't project some weird sex stuff onto them.

UGH, I’m so irritated. Yuzudaughter decided to have a full blown temper tantrum about 20 seconds into P/C’s program (the “reasoning” for said tantrum was completely unrelated to ice dance, FYI), so I was distracted from giving the final four teams my undivided attention. Bah. Some people’s kids...

I am off to hunt down some videos now.

A friend of mine working on their ice, travelling to the main competitions, she was a skater, so she really knows what’s up. She has never mentioned that “problem”. Speed is not everything and not important, it’s not speed skating.

They have problem with edges too. But we already have Kostomarov and Meryl as olympic champions. So yeah, speed, edges, etc. are not important at all.

Even if P/C skated perfectly, they will have something to whine about : not real latin, lack of romantic chemistry blah blah blah blah. Basically for them anyone who is competitor to their ice dance deity Tessa and scott = suck.

I agree with icedance that for most of C&L's programs, there is "no speed issue".

However, the speed they create and the flow they carry is disproportionately powered by simple crosscuts, lots of toe-pick pushes, and plenty of toe-pick runs/running (e.g. 'bunny-hops'). Unfortunately, their speed and flow is not powered by deep, curving edges and turns, and seldom through the use of deep knee bends and the full use of the blade.
