I just confused and sad fo Zhenya - 3 years she was unbeatable and on top and went to her OGM but now an ex-junior lady will take her from gold because of her jumps.

I think there are just a few perfect programs. I am happy Canada won gold, they fully deserved it. The best program in my mind remains Marchei/Hotarek LP. Congratulation to all medalists and all the skaters in this competition, who showed us the beauty of figure skating!

Didn't you see how low Bradie scored in SP?? Her PCS was all 7s. You can't compare Skate America to Olympics. It's different competitions.

There is usually a PCS bump in the free though (if clean obviously)? It's usually around 1.5-2.5 higher than you would naively expect from just changing the multipliers. It's usually unjustified, but it's just part of this sport. If you assume that bump and extrapolate the GOE will be comparable to what she got at Olympics (she got a *very small* bump from Skate America) you'll get around 136-137 - very comparable to Mirai. It's totally possible they would've gone higher, because GOE is usually higher in the LP also. Maybe the judges would've hated the Cinderella much more than her SP (totally possible imo) and she wouldn't get the LP bump - but it's not what we'd typically see

I want Evgenia to win, but to be fair, the possibility that she looses individual gold to Alina is kind of poetic considering how her own rise to the top came to be...

No, because of her ridiculous PCS, if it happens. She should be getting around 68/69. Her only 9+ score should be in transitions.

Funny how things work out. Four years ago Mirai was devastated being left off the Olympic team now four years late she found herself in the position of having to have the skate of her life to hold off Italy. Life is funny isn't it? Good things come to those that wait indeed. :agree:

I don't know how you can say that with certainty. Bradie got a 137 at Skate America, which yes, was homefield advantage, but I really don't see how it's a stretch for her to have gotten a similar score here, especially with the PCS boost she probably would have received at this point.

Like I said, they can't have predicted the results. To me, it would have made more sense to swap ice dance to reward the US's best discipline and have either Bradie or Mirai do both segments.

Why? It worked out really well this way. The US got the bronze, as expected, but unexpectedly had to hold off Italy and Mirai nailed it. This way both American ladies got medals--deservedly, because they both skated well.

Exactly. Now it's overscored russian vs overscored russian (even though both girls are brilliant). They are both amazing, but everything is so inflated to the point that pcs don't make a difference anymore (Kostner vs Zagitova for example). The extreme inflation unintentionally created a real competition where pcs don't really matter for the top girls because they are all scoring close to 10 anyway. At least this makes the competition much more exciting. And imho, if both are perfect Alina will win because the tech panel is not joking around. Zhenya will get at least a ! call on her lutz and that can certainly make a difference since her BV is 3.5 points lower than Alina's in the LP and 1 poin lower in the SP.

Honestly, Alina's PCS is ridiculous. But so are Evgenia's GOEs, and her SS/CO points. I think this is one case that far superior jumping ability is more than enough to compensate for lack of PCS. If Alina wins, it will be because she skated cleanly, not because the judges pumped her full of PCS.

I don't know if someone answered this already. Scott the announcer from CBC came on and said the medal ceremony would be on CBC at 600 am EST tomorrow.

Daleman is the reigning World Bronze medalist and a better skater than Bradie. There is no way the judges at the Olympics would have put Bradie ahead when Daleman skated so well. Bradie lost to both Japanese ladies at Skate America, the exact point total is not really worth talking about, it's separate competitions and there has been a consistent clear message that Bradie is considered inferior. Satoko was given TWO underrotation calls in the SP at Olympics and still beat Bradie!

Mirai went out there and gave a HISTORIC performance that was better than what Bradie was capable of. Whatever the points were going to be, Mirai deserved more and deserved to beat Daleman, whereas Bradie would not have deserved to. This was always the correct assignment to make, in order for the USA to have the highest medal chance possible. Unfortunately the USA did not care about the highest medal chance, instead they went with what would give a Bronze medal while "preserving" Nathan Chen, which is such a stupid thing to do when he had the opportunity to make history with Silver + Gold medals (or even Gold + Gold, but he gave away the possibility of Team Gold with his SP performance). Like, is he an athlete or not? 4 performances over the timespan of more than a week is not that demanding and he wouldn't have even needed to do that difficult of a layout in order to win the Team LP.

I confess, I really wanted Italy to win that bronze, because I wanted an Olympic's fairy tale scenario. Also I like Marchei/Hotarek and want them all medals in the world.
But I love Mirai so much. Since Vancouver. But those 8 years was such a heartbreak. Neverending fight with puberty and injuries. 4 years ago she was stripped off of her rightfully earned olympic spot. But she never gave up, she continued to fight and learned the most difficult element in ladies' skating at her twenties. And she made comeback, she's at the Olymics once again. And at the moment when everyone has written her off and predict her to finish last, Mirai went and delivered perfomance of her lifetime! In the end of the day it's her, and no one else, who secured an olympic medal for team USA.
Maybe, you'll never read this story in the children books, but for me it's the most beautiful fairy tale ever.

Agreed - camera work has been awful. It's Cup of China quality. Extremely disappointing - you'd figure for the olympics they could actually get someone decent.

Performances of the night for me were Mirai and V&T. Mirai's program was simply magical, and I thought her presentation was beautiful

I loved Mirai's Miss Saigon. I hope she can repeat that performance in the Ladies event. I really did not get how they could have Zagitova over Mirai and Gabby PCS-wise. And I still dislike the backloading strategy. Happy for Patrick and all the Canadian vets! Congratulations Team Canada!!!

I like it better. It's cuter and stuffed toys are awesome.

And some countries have problems if you want to bring the (dried) flowers back home as a souvenir. I remember the Australians not even being allowed to bring olive wreaths won back from Athens 2004 because the country has such strict agricultural import control laws.
