2018 Worlds Ladies FS

Alina's nightmare performance shows what a risky programme it is.
Many think backloading is a cheap trick but there is a reason why no one does it. It causes tremendous pressure on the skater. Both mentally and physically.
Add that lutz/loop combo to the mix (even males stay away from it) and you have a bomb ready to explode in few seconds.
Today it made me appreciate what a sensational season Alina has had. Hopefully it won't leave a scar and she'll be back as good as ever.

Kaetlyn completely deserved her win today. Solid as a rock. Let's hope she doesn't lose her motivation.

SO happy for Higuchi, Satoko and Japan's third spot. Japanese skaters have qualities that are unique to them and are always beautiful to watch.

such a good point about the zagitova backroading and how risky that is because if something goes wrong it's hard to stop it.

by the way I've never seen a post here with 34 likes yours deserved it.

Woah the Russians nearly lost three spots. Somewhere, Evgenia is like...

(except not cuz she's too classy)

I would have had Bradie 3rd, Satoko 4th, Alina 5th, and Carolina 6th. But not bad scoring. Congrats to Kaetlyn!!!

If Alina had withdrawn from Worlds, Russia would have lost their 3rd spot. It is an incredible burden on her, but the way thing was she couldn’t just say no. It was not like she was at a big risk of being injured if she competed (correct me if i am wrong), plenty of skaters have dealed with puberty in the middle of the season before. It is a bet with manageable risk that she and her team took. I do think under a better circumstance she should not have done it though.

It was so heartbreaking to watch her skate like that and I hope she has time to rest, adjusts with the changes in her programs and comea back stronger next season.

Alina’s performance reminded me of Pogo’s last year at worlds in which she has a very successful and consistent season. Then all the mistakes came out at once...

Zhenya is the leader of that team she's the person the younger skaters look up to the most not the coach and I bet Medvedeva has already been in contact with Alina to console her. I'm glad Russia gets the keep the three spots because if they didn't Alina would feel even worse. it's time for her to have a real vacation and for her to get to know her new Akita dog. ;)

Woke up 5 minutes ago, checked the results...Alina and Caro beyond the podium, Osmond 1st? Oh, I'm still asleep?

P.S Thx God spots are saved ))

Somewhere Tara is thinking "see this is why I didn't do worlds in '98".

For sure. after the Olympic Alina's parents should have taken her to Disneyland for like a month. I'm very disappointed she went to Worlds after what has to be a massive Olympic High she was experience even if she low-keyed everything. to do her back loading program is very difficult which is why no one else does it once one thing goes wrong it's like a domino effect and that's what happened today. A shame. But thats sports.

So happy for Kaetlyn!!! Well deserved Gold!

Alina just showed that it is not easy to back load all the jumps, even for her! So sad that she had such a bad showing. Good luck for the future!

I hope Eteri is patient and can help Zagitova recover. But I also hope she's not already thinking about Sasha and Alena surpassing Alina in the near future. But she probably is.

Go WAKABA!!!!!!!! Yaaaaaaasssssssss!!!!!! :dance::drama::clap::hap10::yahoo::hap85::yay::clapper::dance2::peace:

Alina competed this season non stop, GP, GPF, nationals, Europeans, Olympic Team event, Olympic individual event, and now Worlds, it was expected, she must be exhausted, no mention the skating show and all the interviews after the win. I would not be worried about this result.

Has there ever been a World Champion that was as basic as Kaetlyn?

She really doesn't bring anything new or interesting to the table.

With Zhenya out Russia isnt so deep especially with the injuies some have. Very lucky to have kept the three spots for next season. I'm hoping next year's Worlds sends Evgenia, Alina and Alena who will be 15 then.

Congrats to Kaetlyn on her world gold.

"Russia isn't so deep without Zhenya"

Let's see here. While yes, injuries are an issue right now, these spots are for next year when ostensibly injured girls could come back. Anna Pogorilaya is scheduled to be in shows in Japan, so I can only imagine she's feeling better. Not sure what's up with Tsurskaya. Overall though, Russia has 5 girls who are not retired beyond Alina and Zhenya who have PBs over 200, three of which scored over 200 this year. That's better than all current women in the US have ever scored save for Bradie Tennel (assuming that Ashley Wagner has retired, which seems likely). It's not like it's Alina and Zhenya and then dropping off to a bunch of girls who can't crack 200, it's those two and then a bunch of other women who have a host of international medals and hunger to prove themselves. They are definitely lucky to have three spots, especially since the incredible talent in Russia means that those spots won't be wasted.

Why can't we let Kaetlyn have this moment!!!??? I'm beyond thrilled for Wakaba and her silver, but let's let Kaetlyn have this one. Please.

I mean if we rewind many years before inflation this could be a plausible analysis for her score. But everyone else's scores would go down too. You do realize that, right?

LOL, as if we need to think about discounting inflation in order to determine what is "plausible"! All that matters are the actual facts of what happened and what something deserves to be scored on an all-time scale, which is what CoP is supposed to be measuring. Did you miss the part though where I said my score for Higuchi would be 139, which is 6 points lower than what she got? Yes, her score was relatively higher than it should really be too, but her degree of overscoring was far lower than Osmond's, who I have 15 points lower on GOE/PCS and then another 1.3 points lower because of an underrrotation call that was not given!

I think Kaetlyn skated like a World Champion and like a young woman rather than a gussied up child. I do not find her skating basic but powerful and true. And she is charming. Congratulations to Kaetlyn and to Canada.

I agree with others who have said that the danger of Alina putting all her jumps in the last two minutes of her program was displayed today. You don't get a chance to regroup or catch your breath before the next jump. When skaters fall on a jump usually they have roughly ( idk) 30 seconds or more to kinda refocus for the next jump. Alina doesn't have that luxury, she ha to go into the next jump. So they have sort of a domino effect.
I think it is a bad technique and hopefully it doesn't become common place for skaters because that will really thin out the arena's imo.

O.M.F.G.

Wakaba Higuchi is a world silver medalist?

(dies)

ETA: she was so underscored though. Next season judges better wake up.
