But wouldn't you rather have a competition where everyone skates cleanly, and may the best skater win? Maybe it's because I never belittle any skater because of their mistakes why I don't tolerate when others do. I don't say anything at all. I learned that if you don't have something nice to say, you shouldn't say it at all. I know it's a blurred line because criticism is a part of figure skating and fans want skaters to be the best they can be, but it's all about balance.

Yes I agree with you, that it would be a great competition if everyone skated cleanly. But, that don’t usually happen. Someone always falls due to whatever nerves, injuries etc. Some skaters never fall, others can never do a clean program. Who’s to judge the best skater of a competition....the skater that never falls, falls three times or the skater that always falls skates a almost clean program. Isn’t that a fair competition. Some fans are happy, some are sad because of the outcome.

What surprise me the most is that judges didn't try to save Zagitova with PCS. I mean if her reputation was as solid as Kostner or Medvedeva, maybe they would still give her 75 PCS even with that disaster.

Zagi showed us she is still a teenager and is only human. She made mistakes and was visibly upset but still had enough grace to wave at the audience in the KnC. Kudos to her. That said, her PCS was still very generous considering what she put out. I do feel sorry for the amount of stress and nerves she must have been experiencing but that in no way should be deserving of high 8s PCS of 69.87 while a flawless Wakaba who skated her heart out got less than half a point higher in PCS. That was certainly a big anomaly. Just hope Zagi gets a much deserved rest and a holiday somewhere to be her parents girl and regroup stronger next year. And hoping that ISU will clean up the crazy mess of PCS scoring and make that make more sense to the audience.

I think no one ever had such a score with 5 triples (exc. top skaters messing up, I mean). That FP was phenomenal, everything was great : jumps, spins, spirals, steps (level 4!!!), speed, presentation. I'm so happy the judges went with it. But the quality was amazing! I think her Tano lutz deserved at least +2 while it only got +0.7.
However, I do not understand why she only plans 5 triples. She should at least have one triple toe, as she can do it even in combination with the 3Lz, as she did it in the SP for the first time. I think she felt more secure with 2A+2T+2L but I would really have gone with 6 triples.
Congratulations, Loena, you are improving by the minute, it's rare to see that.

Loena H. She was wonderful in the short /Frozen and the free was superb for the super music choice by Gotan Project... what a presence on the Ice, live she has a great impact...I kept thinking she should go the Orser to go to the next level, don’t know why...

Maybe she was, maybe she wasn't. he said that in the post Olympic interview about Nathan Chen. Literally one line saying he wasn't surprised about her nationals placement because she hadn't been training.

They probably did the program without errors in practice more than once. In a perfect world then the skater with the most points would win. It would not matter because someone would not be happy. The medal is supposed to go to the skater that the judges thought skated the best on that night and got the most points. It does not matter if a skater got a medal at the Olympics a month ago if she made mistakes this night she should be judged for it. Kate was fortunate she did not make as many errors and she got marked accordingly. As many say she will never win another one but she won this one and let her have her moment.

That goes for all the other skaters because the ice is very slippery as Alina and Carolina is proof of that..... time You will never know what Katelyn will accomplish in the future but at the present, she is the 2018 Ladies World Champion....on paper and on the ice, she is the best in the world. So to all the naysayers and the negative vibes people sent her way, she didn’t faulter. People said that Alina never falls but she proved that she is human and to err is human. Does it really matter if she ever wins another one. Skaters go through their career and never wins a medal do that make them any less of a winner. Please don’t begrudge Katelyn of her Gold Medal, she didn’t take it from anyone, she earned it. Repeating you again”As many say she will never win another”. Only time will tell this and who cares she’s already got hers...

Congratulations to Kaetlyn, Wakaba, and Satoko on their medals.

Positive thoughts to Alina and Carolina.

And lots of rest for Gabby to heal that sprained ankle.

First, commenting that a few thing had to go right for the winner to win doesn't subtract from the accomplishment, but it is realistic. In other sports, it's called an upset. In college b-ball, it's been called the 'year of upsets' because so many top seeds are falling. Upsets are a part of sport. This is the only sport that doesn't know what to do with upsets. The best athletes on paper don't always deliver when it counts.

A lot is made of faulty placements in this sport. I understand Carolina being placed a little higher than she deserves because of the home ice advantage thing. Idon't know about radie deserving the Bronze, but I do think she should have had a top 5 finish.

- Feeling extremely happy for Osmond´s win! Already at fall I thought this programme has potential.
- Sad for Zagitova, but so happy that like Uno she did not give up
- Higuchi and Miyahara, so happy for their podium finish, although I had hoped for Kostner to win a medal here
- Tennel proved out to be the best US skater here, she is the US champion, right? Only two slots for US ladies at next WC...

But if you look at it in a different way, we have new faces on the podium that totally deserved their place and be recognized for the work they put out there. They shined when others couldn't.
Carolina was never a consistent free skate skater so no surprise there. Actually, it would be more of a surprise if she had been flawless or near flawless.
And this is a Worlds after the Olys. Everyone is exhausted.

Yeah but it means competition was a mess if none of the podium finishers had 2 clean programs even though they kept their mistakes to minimums compared to the splatfest in the places after them. The only clean skate was Wakaba’s FS in the top 3 and was the only program without negative GOE. She had her shining moment there and had she been clean in her SP it would have been her moment. But as it stands, still a splatfest. The most consistent programs had mistakes: Alina’s FS which was the most consistent program turning into the biggest disaster, Kaetlyns SP which has been her vehicle but also what set her back here, Satoko’s FS and she is probably the most consistent skater and having a pop to fall. Not to mention all the URs but I guess that isn’t really a surprise.

I hope she has not left Italy. She is the reigning Olympic Champion and if she is asked to skate in the Gala I think she should. She is young and she had a bad day period. She has nothing to be ashamed of and skating in the Gala with no pressure I think would be good for her and the audience would support her too just like they did when she was struggling in her long program. It would end her year on a much happier note.

Sorry, I am not laughing out loud at others. Just proving the point that fans can’t complain about Osmond and her splatfests when their own favourite can make a mistake also. This work both ways...too err is human.... Yes I LOL a lot on this site when I read so much venom towards a certain skater. Like the post that I responded to about Kaetlyn probably not winning another. I agree, I should not have used LOL in my response to that post.

So, should she have been sad at that moment? Please ... tell us how you'd be feeling if you were in Osmond's shoes (err... skates) at that moment??

You really don't seem to get it. The scores the skaters deserved at this competition has nothing to do with the scores skaters got in 2010. Kaetlyn deserved 133 for the LP exactly based upon the current rules. The judges overscoring people has nothing to do with the scores the skaters should be receiving. The overscoring is their fault and it should be corrected. The scores I gave are 100% justifiable and if I were in a judges' meeting, my scores would be far more reasoned, explainable, and given supporting evidence than what is the current state of affair with the judges, who are quite clueless and frequently unable to give credible arguments for their scores. But since they all do it and since the ISU does not have good systems in place, these conversations don't really happen, it's instead just based upon general campaigning of the federations.

Wakaba deserved to win this competition and if she was a bigger name skater and if the judges did score the competition as such, virtually nobody would be blinking an eye. Everyone at this moment would just be talking about her amazing comeback and perfect performance that deserved the victory, like when Mao won 2014 Worlds.

The scoring system is unfortunately, not applied the way you think it is. You seem to believe whatever you say is exactly what each skater deserves, no questions about it, and no one else has any say. I can give supporting evidence for the current scores, with perhaps deflation across the board, but certainly keeping the same results, minus an overscored Satoko due to a biased technical caller. And my breakdown would be reasoned and justifiable as well.
