It'll be much worse. Now Kolyada is hated before he ever sets foot on the Olympic ice. People are up in arms about how he should under no circumstances be put in the team event because he doesn't deserve it. I say let Kondratiuk deal with this, he is young and inexperienced so they can only place so much blame on him. Of course he has hardly done enough in his career to deserve an Olympic gold either, but you could argue none of the Russian men have and someone needs to skate the damn thing or none of the deserving skaters will get theirs.

You know, people who speak the loudest, are usually a minority. I, for one, have no doubt that it has to be Kolyada if it’s just one, and Kolyada (free) with Kondratyuk (short).

Honestly, I am pleasantly surprised that so many people believe in Mozalev’s chances. To start with, I am not used to there being other people who know who the heck he is, lol.

I agree. Only hangup would be the status of Kolyada's injury, because iirc the men's SP is 1 day after team FS.

To be honest, every logic dictates Kondratyuk in short, Kolyada in the free. New champion and old. Two great coaches. Stable short to launch the most famous Russian men’s free program recently, men competing almost immediately after team event, men unable to medal individually… I mean, save for ID, no other discipline has any reason save for putting an extra medal on the athlete. Men actually make sense to split.

Okay, I didn’t hear about Galliamov’s hand. If there is injury protection then, yes, that should trump all other considerations.

And because somebody wants a guaranteed medal for TM. But then there is also the argument that the girls deserve two medals and we shouldn't tire Kamila out. And Katsalapov's back. I don't see how they'll get around to replacing men in this situation since they are the only non-medal contenders.

There has been some insider info that Misha had been injured for a while, but it got worse at the camp in Tallinn. But also that the injury isn't serious and the prognosis is good (but on which time scale?).

The Coaching Council voted against Kolyada in the team event but the final decision has not been made. As I understand, they are also putting off deciding between Mozalev and Semenenko till the last moment, which can't be good for their psyches.

Semenenko and Mozalev will have to continue their skate-offs in Krasnoyarsk till the team has to leave for China. We could see what having to do that once at Euros did to their nerves. The Fed really doesn't give a damn about its skaters psychological condition and the last time this bit it in the behind big time. They never learn.

At this point they are destroying both of them. But damn it, Mozalev was the next level of soulful in the gala. And Semenenko went for spread eagle.

Judging by all the contradictory leaks in the media, there is a real dogfight going on behind the scenes for that near-guaranteed Olympic gold. It comes with some really nice perks in Russia.
