No it doesn’t. Nationals determines the National champion as well as envelope funding for the coming year. They aren’t Olympic Trials.Yup it really makes Nationals pointless......

so much love and attention given to the skaters known primarily for jumps and without other elite quality skating skills. It goes both ways.Honestly Jason does so well because he is American.
There are only so many who can do quads.
If it's graceful movements, there are many many dancer around the world.
Ilia has noticeable gotten better this year, I don't understand why one new guy who was 2nd place, with clean performances and 4 quads, is said to be underserving of going to Olympics.
This is stagnation. It's like using 6.0 system in low level competitions.
So much love and attention is given to older skater. They are more artistic. They are more deserving. When they lose, the PCS should have been higher.
In a non-COVID year, sure. But having nationals in the first place was really dangerous. To have nationals, only to pick the skaters (across all disciplines) that everyone knew were going to be picked regardless of actual skating, is a super bad look. The teams were not predetermined. They were chosen based on the stated criteria.
Where? I don't see it?
Oh hooray! Thank you.2022 Figure Skating Toyota US Championships - Nashville, USA

He was born in the US. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have Russian citizenship. He lands too many jumps to be a Russian man. Although, he does have the inconsistency. Ilya will do fine in America. It will take him a few months to get recognition by the federation but once he is in, he will be in. The USFS is loyal to skaters. This helps their men's results. ( Less so the women'sIlia should go skate for Russia
)

Jason Brown is like a flightless bird in the competition of birds. Kinda cool it exists, but we came to watch them fly.Honestly Jason does so well because he is American.

everyone has their own opinion.
Clearly USFS thought Jason was the correct choice, and met their selection criteria.
I started a Gala thread for us.Now Sabrstien is skating to Sasha T's SP music from last year and it's making me sad.
Oh hooray! Thank you.
But a concert?
Oh wait are we gonna have line dancing skaters' Because I'd be on board with that.
I agree. They should at minimum not allowed spectators or fans. They should not have had a gala or off ice events. In a non-COVID year, sure. But having nationals in the first place was really dangerous. I go to competitions to watch Jason Brown skate, as well as others.Jason Brown is like a flightless bird in the competition of birds. Kinda cool, but we came to watch them fly.
Gala is on Olympic Channel. You can watch if you use a VPN to pretend you are outside the US.Well Vincent is screwed, get ready for the hate parade... Seriously the Twitterati are going to make him wish he never put on a pair of skates.Hide Vincent, hide!
Meanwhile I'm watching Artur D because the Olympic Channel isn't showing the Gala. That was one impressive 4A attempt!
But we do have a gala so I am heading over there now, anyone with me?I agree. They should at minimum not allowed spectators or fans. They should not have had a gala or off ice events.

I know, Ilia skates in my home club (and second home rink) lol. I think he has Russian citizenship? Not sure but I bet he would’ve made that Olympic team.He was born in the US. Not pointless. But, Nationals has just become one more selection criteria on a long list rather than just the end all be all. I think it is smarter for feds to do it this way. I am pretty sure that if G/P had finished in 3rd they would have been sent to the Olympics over H/B. If C/ J had won Nationals, they would have been put on the Olympic team. It matters for teams that are close in the rankings. I think it makes sense. Although, I would prefer a completely numbers based system i.e. the Spanish system where selection is purely a numbers game.
I am!But we do have a gala so I am heading over there now, anyone with me?
No matter what happens after today, ilia is a big star in the USA. He'll have the next quarter to himself and his fan base just grew by leaps and bounds. I know he must be disappointed but, he won the hearts of us skating fans.Nope, Canada is closer.
Unfortunately, since he has represented USA, he is not going to be able to secure release to anywhere and has to watch DaVinchi code unfold again and again.

That’s why Us skating fans cry happy tears that Brown gets to go because omg, he has cross-overs. With love like that, who needs hatred? No matter what happens after today, ilia is a big star in the USA. He'll have the next quarter to himself and his fan base just grew by leaps and bounds. That's your opinion. Please stop stating your opinion as fact. Clearly Jason was the favorite of the crowd. The standing ovations started before he finished. He is also a skater's skater which means most other actual skaters prefer him to others. You don't. That's fine but don't pretend your opinion is universal.Jason Brown is like a flightless bird in the competition of birds. Kinda cool it exists, but we came to watch them fly.
