Dear Members. During the first day of competitions at the Olympics we have noticed that many posters are completely forgetting that these are competition threads, as for actual skaters competing. They are not threads to express with whom you have an axe to grind, to express your political opinions, your issues about doping allegations, any issues you may have with certain countries or people, your opinion about cheating or not, disparaging comments about people experiencing mental health issues, and/or any xenophobic or homophobic opinions you wish to express. Such posts are contrary to forum guidelines in general but are especially off putting in competition threads. Please focus on what is happening on the ice.

Posts which contain such sentiments derail the thread and take the joy out of taking part in these threads for other posters who join in to enjoy the experience of watching a Figure Skating competition with like minded posters. The moderators are free to delete all such posts without warning, and will do so if this continues.

Want to watch the RD but yet I don't. After the placements in the Team event I have a fear that Piper and Paul are going to end up in 7th place. They seem to be moving backwards this season and not forward. Same thing happened to Weaver and Poje. They were in the top 5 at the 2 worlds leading up to the Olympics yet they placed 7th at both Olympics - yet placed 2nd and 3rd at the worlds the same years.

Funny, I thought the Lithuanian couple were new but they've been around a few years - I don't remember seeing them skate.

you shouldn't be surprised by that.....just look at the teams that are pushing them down for your answer.....

Just when you thought you couldn't handle any more figure skating drama... Up pop the ice dancers!

Should be fun. During the Team Event, the judges weren't afraid to go off-script - but I don't know if this is the same panel.

I don't care for the Rhythm Dances this season, so I hope there is major upheaval in the standings, just so I enjoy the chaos.

The crazier, the better.

Is it bad that I want C/B and H/D to make the podium?

Of course not. But if two American teams make the podium either P/C or S/K will not. I like the sound of P/C and two American teams getting medals. But whether that actually happens? I stayed out of the predictions thread so I'm not predicting anything let's just see we don't have to wait that much longer. :)

It is never bad to have your favorites, whomever they are! That is why there are fan fests!

I definitely want C&B and H&D to each get an individual medal. Why? because they both were so excellent in the team event, and their medal ceremony got totally screwed up.

C&B were the 2nd place team at US Nationals in the FD, and they beat S&K in that. H&D were the second place team at US Nationals in the RD, and they beat S&K in that, so unless S&K skate a lot better in the individual event than in the team event, I would not cry if they are left off the podium.

I do expect P&C to win, though.

It's so funny how much my opinion has changed this season - if you'd asked me a year ago I'd have said that I wanted Piper and Paul to get the bronze. But after this season - my dream-but-still-a-realistic-dream podium would be P/C, H/D, S/K.

I think that while their FD feels a little cut and paste to me, P/C have dominated the quad score wise and it would a nice way for them to round off their career (if thats what they want to do, and I think it may well be). I really do think that their RD choice is a wise one, and suits them (but still not what I wouldn've chosen for them).

I also wouldn't be mad if H/D won - when they bring their technical best and combine with 2 really solid programmes they are hard to beat (in my eyes at least) and despite not being Zach's biggest fan, I really like Madi. (I actually think that the way that people often speak about her in a negative way because she deigns to be honest and outspoken about being competitive is so unbelievably sexist). A perfect example of how programme choice is *everything* in ice dance if you want to beat the best. With stronger material, I'm not sure that S/K would've beaten them in 2019.

While S/K's programmes aren't my cup of tea - and the FD is an empty choreographic mess this season - they have such excellent skating skills that they deserve to medal here. I do still believe that they are better than these programmes though, and that they haven't pushed artistically and that annoys me. I can't even explain how much the "touch" between the twizzles in the FD irriate me - it's not really in the spirit of the rules. Intrigued to see if the TE has spooked them? Also intrigued to see if the TE medal drama will have influenced the judges in any way (not making commentary on the gossip, just wondering what gossip will mean for judges and any possible politiking that has been taking place).

I've loved Piper and Paul in the past but this season they just haven't been it for me sadly - the RD doesn't work like their disco or Beatles did and the FD feels a bit boring and generic for them. I hope they can stay in the top 5 though.

I think C/B likely will medal but I have to say that their programmes haven't inspired me this year and their skating is so sloooow compared to my personal top 3.

I'm thrilled that S/B are here! I actually think both programmes suit them this year, and if they skate with the same confidence that they did at Euros then I can't wait. Also maybe the only fan here of the R&D FD - I think it shows off their maturity and growth since 2018 really well.

In a world where base value wins the event, obviously G/F would be up there but alas. I LOVE their RD lift but not the programme and the FD is lovely but doesn't move me. In any case, I hope they have a good showing here.

Well, I would like a podium of P/C, H/D and C/B (the last two can be in any order, as I like C/B's programs better, but recognise that H/D are the better skaters), but I doubt that is going to happen. Firstly, we can't be sure that S/K are going to make serious mistakes again and/or that both US teams won't make such mistakes. Secondly, I think that ISU and the judges (except the US judge, of course) would like to see one french, one russian and one US team on the podium rather than one french team and two US teams, so, if S/K skate better than at the team event, they are going to put them on the podium.
