Hear, hear. I thought she was marvelous too, and so helpful to a casual audience, and the best refutation to idiots like Johnny Weir who think ID isn't "real" skating. What? She is fantastic. The Aussie commentator at the summer Olympics was equally fantastic. Very knowledgeable, offer helpful insights (she's one of the FIRST commentators I've heard connect the importance of different parts of the blade, knee action, edges, and posture/position over the blade), and she actually references things like (eg) the size of a team's pattern, ice coverage, changes of direction, 'watch the rocker', brackets, etc. I'd rather have that than the bombast of Jonny Weir or (in the past) the ubiquitous squeals of Scott Hamilton ("It's a BEAUTY" (as skater steps out of underrotated jump...)).
Although I have to say that Tessa and Scott have great potential. I didn't hear much of their commentary (they use the Aussie lady on CBC replays) but they are both extremely articulate, and provide insights that only experts like them can offer.
Anyhoo, I prefer the Aussie lady and Voirs to any of the commentators at the recent Canadian nationals, who gushed with superlatives at just anything that wasn't a fall...
Tanith Belben White is also a first rate ID commentator. Haven't heard Voir yet, but as an Honorary Canadian I live in hope!
