2023 NextGen Team Camp - Competition Simulation | July 22-24

Really happy to see Shohei push his technical arsenal forward, after all this is also his last junior season.

The first time he attempted a 3A in competition as far as I know.

Unrelated post, but I just found this and love it

Protocols are up. The +1 adjustment for Morita and Guinzborg were for "jump type". They each did a 3A. Two other skaters tried a 3A and didn't get the bonus; they both had 3A<+F. Not enough data to know whether the < or the F disqualified them from the bonus. Both jumps that got the bonus were negative GOE, and one was a q.

yeah... for juniors, there are bonuses... For women, a 3-3 combo gets a + 1. Also, I believe a triple flip/lutz also gets a +1.

For men, I am not sure... I believe it's the 3a for the SP and the 3A and quad for the LP??

A fall and I believe under-rotation (< or <<) will nix that bonus... but do not quote me on this.... I don't know the rules, it's just from reading protocols that I have made some observations which may be incorrect :)

Here we are with day two...

the stream is up...

i slept just about 3 hours... i wanted to watch the race of the year in swimming... but yeah... it wasn't Summer's best race.... and it was definitely Titmus's best as she posted a world record... 4th place for Summer... Mary-Sophie didn't do as well as in qualif for her 200 IM and the relays, well... without Penny... Canadian women did what they could.... (when you ask a 400 M specialist to swim a sprint relay, it's a sign there is a problem in depth...) So yeah :) not a pleasant swimming morning for me... so I am up until I crash for some skating....

We start with Breken wearing a nice lavenderish dress... and starting with the unexpected 1a-3t... labeled as the reverse from the tech ticker... Skate Canada is backwards as expected.

I must say, I am a sucker for hair ribbons, so I love every time someone wears one. Breken always has very pretty packaging anyways, and this season is no different. Beautiful flower embroidery on her dress.

Some upgrades to her planned content (no doubles anymore apart from 2A and as the second part of a combination), even though the axel did not want to work with her today: 1A+3T, 3F, 3T+1Eu+2S, 3Lo (Fall), 3S, 3S+2T, 1A

Kara's dress is also very pretty, quite reminiscent of some other dresses we have seen recently. Very nice spins, and the jumps were okay for the most part, apart from a little heaviness on some landings and the ill-fated second Lutz.

3Lz, 3Lo, 3F+2T+2Lo, 3S, 2A+2A, 2Lz Fall (Off-axis pop), 3F

Gosh... the swimming at Fukuoka hour really did me in... i am already fighting with my eyelids.

Yeah... the problem is that she cannot really get positive GOE on these jumps because they are far from effortless. She gets them done for the most part. I especially liked her back in the laidback... her back flexibility is really good... her leg extension could be improved.

Well.... let's see if they get better... I don't trust good technique from her coaching staff. When it's natural, it's good... but as soon as it gets off, it's really off.

oh... aleksa is having a lot of issues with the toe assisted jumps... it looks like the trajectory of pretty much all the jumps is off.. like too high, not enough distance... but i am no tech specialist... so maybe it's just my half opened eyes
