2024-25 Russian Nationals Men's Short Program

When making out my predictions last night, I knew I should have included the skater I know and like (Kondratiuk) and left out the skater that had scored higher, but who I had never seen before (Ugozhaev). But Ugozhaev's PB was just too high to leave him out (second only to Semenenko). And Kondratiuk's PB was below 300.

But, it's Men's Singles skating. Anything can happen on Saturday.

Ugozhaev had two strong competitions but he's a nervy skater.

Last season he had very solid junior stages but totally bombed junior nationals and placed 10th.

Mmmmm. That's interesting. So, it seems to be the pressure of competing on the big stage that gets to him. Yeah, there are a few skaters that have been like that.

Well, hopefully as he gets older and more experienced, he will be able to overcome that.

It just shows how invaluable it is to become familiar with the Junior skaters and find out things like this before they get into Seniors. That was a major problem I had when making my predictions for Russia. I didn't know the younger skaters. And that is one reason why I miss the Russians being in the Junior GP Series.

Oh, Matvey. He's the Russian Jason Brown. You'd wish he'd just do triples, but the fact is he'd not be competitive against his peers without the quads since the top Russian men have them. Such beautiful posture and spins.
and splatting all over the ice and missing the combo helps him?
