Oh, Andrew. He dropped. He can do much better. But hopefully, he's gained some knowledge that can benefit him through the season. Honestly, I am surprised at Camden's poor showing, and that Torgy is not on his mark either in this early season field. At least Jimmy skated a blinder to move up in the standings, even though Economides came ahead of Jimmy by .10, a very close call.

Pulling for Tomoki and Lucas! :cheer2:

Oh geez! Tomoki dropped to 10th!!! šŸ˜±

Be for real now, the only real surprise here is Lucas. Congrats to him for getting the SkAm host spot.

Let's just remember that Camden barely scored over 210 at his first Challenger last season, so this was already better than that. Torgy's score isn't really outside of the norm for him either, and just in general all of these men had the same chance of having a hit-or-miss competition, unfortunately.

Senior men + very early in the season was always a recipe for chaos.

Great start for Broussard does he have any GP events this season? If not if he keeps skating like this he has a chance to make the World team considering what headcases the other US men are. No one else seems to want to make a case to make the Olympic team either no wonder Jason feels like he can make another Olympic team even at his age.

Oh Anthony P can you make it CAN x three on the podium in Boston, USA backyard?
LOL! These Canadian junior men (Grayson L; Anthony P; and David B) landing 3, 4, 5 at this early season competition in the U.S. is quite wonderful and exciting for Canadian men's future, eh! Canadian junior men grabbing all three podium spots at Cranberry was never possible with the supremely talented Jacob Sanchez of the U.S. and the amazingly gifted Yanhao Li of New Zealand at the top of their games. They were both far ahead of the field in the scoring (especially Yanhao).

That said, I am happy to see Grayson coming into his own, and I hope he continues to prosper. I also hope that Anthony can continue to improve his tech abilities, as his artistry is out of this world! I am not familiar with David Bondar at all, so I look forward to seeing his performances. Meanwhile, this is a great result for Canadian junior men, coming ahead of Israel's Kuperman, U.S.A.'s Brooks; Shinohara; Kovar; and especially far ahead of Haugeto and Kazaniecki.

I hope Haugeto's coaches take him back to basics to retool his technique. Kazaniecki is very talented so I would not count him out. Kovar is very tall, which surely presents difficulties for him. I suppose Brooks and Shinohara are still developing. I am not familiar with U.S.A.'s Blackwell, nor do I know William Chan; David Li; or John Kim of Canada.

For sure, Tomoki clearly has been hit-or-miss too often in recent years. But his talent and numbers potential remain huge, if he can figure out the mental game and avoid injuries. Torgy has been in injury rehab for years, sadly. Otherwise, Torgy is extremely talented and can hit high numbers when healthy and mentally in-the-zone. Camden has showed greatness, but his career trajectory is beginning to resemble Romsky's, sadly. In Camden's case, academic distractions and training instability, along with mental game hit-or-miss have been his downsides. With Romsky, who knows what happens. Romsky has the uber talent to consistently be on major podiums. But Romsky's mental game has not been there when needed in the career make or break moments.

The problem is, it is simply hard to count out any of these talented, consistency-challenged guys, who should all be able to beat Luc Economides. Luc E is charming, entertaining, and creative, but not as smooth and superbly talented all-around as Romsky, Camden, Tomoki, or Torgy. Clearly, it does not matter how talented you are, it is what you bring to the ice in the given moment. The hugely talented guys can not seem to put everything together consistently when needed on the level of champions-in-the-making. Jimmy Ma did do it here, but it was not a given he would, plus Jimmy is on the downside of his career.

I disagree that Lucas B's result here is surprising. It is certainly unexpected and unpredictable because he is coming back from injury. When healthy and on a roll, Lucas has been at the top previously in juniors. We know he has fine artistry and solid technique. Adding a consistent triple axel and a clean quad to his arsenal are the key factors for Lucas at Cranberry. Who knew that he has been successfully training a quad and a consistent 3-axel? We do know that Lucas has otherwise previously shown competitive consistency, when healthy.

For sure, it is early season. This field was always a difficult one to accurately predict. Anyone who managed to do so with major accuracy was just lucky. Prediction contests usually prove to be a mixed bag and luck is always in the details.

And voilĆ ! I won a silver in the men's prediction contest for Cranberry. LOL! That's because I got Ma's overall 3rd place accurate, and Camden and Torgy both managed to pull up to top five. I did not have Lucas nor Luc at the top and I doubt that anyone did. The top scores for men in the prediction contest are low, unsurprisingly. Plus, Mark G withdrawing late is a factor.

Someone said that Broussard will get the tbd at SA. That will be nice.

While I personally will not throw around the 'headcase' insult when referring to brave, hardworking athletes, it has certainly been a series of hit-or-miss for far too long for so many of the 'veteran up-and-coming/ next-gen' U.S. guys such as Tomoki, Camden, and Torgy. All have had injury misfortunes that have impacted their careers, especially Torgy. Plus, Camden chose to squeeze-in academics like Nathan Chen, but few can manage to go the academic route and stay on top competitively like Nathan. Camden has not so far proven he has a killer instinct either, whereas Nathan always spoke softly and carried a big stick, with admirable self-composure and above all, superlative self-belief. Nathan's unexpected 2018 Olympics struggles spurred him on to a rare four-year-period of dominance internationally. Like Clint Eastwood, Nathan Chen always possessed quiet charisma, killer calm under pressure, and championship chutzpah when it counted in the nitty-gritty, 'What are you made of?' moments.

Jimmy Ma is a talented journeyman who can always be in the mix. He is holding on because he loves the sport and trying for an Olympics spot is not out of the realm of possibility for him. But, he will not be a favorite to make the 2026 Olympics U.S. men's fs team.

I don't know what the selection criteria are, but I do feel that Lucas Broussard has earnt the TBD host spot. He has won a challenger event competing against experienced seniors, some of whom have GP spots or have had them in the past. Yes, the top flight of senior men weren't there, but some who placed top 24 at Worlds were.

Lucas Broussard

Pretty good. One glaring jump error/landing. Nice elegant performance.

Free Skate 160.61
Total Score 246.48
This performance score last year among the US men internationally would had Lucas 3rd at least in first half of the he season. Lucas made statement here he wants to go to the 2026 Olympics. Only Ilia and Jason scored better I think. Most of Lucas's issues that he had last season were not his fault. Cup of China his skate blades broke some how and at Nationals he was so injured that he withdrew. This score along with that he had few mistakes that he will clean up bodes very well for the season ahead. If he keeps skating like this and even improves through out the season he has an excellent chance to go to Worlds because the rest of the US men, except Ilia and Jason, can not seem to put together a clean short and long to save their lives. We need a good second man to replace Jason when he retires and I looks like Lucas could be that man.

I was fortunate enough to be in the area for another event and popped in to see the men.
Despite the scores, I have to say that Camden for me was the performance that grabbed my attention the most. Mature, artistic, some nice jumps. Small venue so I got to speak to him afterwards. So lovely and articulate. He said it was a new program and he knew he had work to do. He is also starting a full time job this week so is balancing a big schedule.
I look forward to seeing the program progress.
