2024 CS Nebelhorn Trophy Women's FS

I actually really enjoyed Elyce in the FS. Loved the choreo sequence with the use of her hands during the Ina Bauer. Her skating is very smooth and pleasant to watch. The music was a bit boring until the choreo sequence, and she gives absolutely nothing in the face, similar to Sarah E., but her skating is a little more refined compared to Sarah. I would have called a q on the 3T of the 3Lz-3T combo but everything else looked fully rotated. I thought the ! calls were harsh, especially on her last 3F. Of course, I'm also astonished by her PCS and would have put her at low 8s at a maximum across the board, but she deserved the win. Hope she gets 2 GPs.

Isabeau is a gorgeous skater, and good for her for coming back strong in the FS after the costly error in the SP. She knows how to put things behind her. The jump technique is not great, of course. Unfortunately, she's been the definition of one-note for me. It's a beautiful one-note, but I've just seen way too many piano or classical LPs from her at this point of her career.

My favorite program was from Hana Yoshida though. The music conveniently cried "Ahhh..." after she popped the 3Lz, but I just loved the choreography and her commitment.

Mone Chiba doesn't do much for me for right now sadly. I liked her SP, but overall, her jumps look small, and she often looks scared on the ice.

Oh dear... rough skate for Maddie! :( It's too bad, because I do think that the program has a lot of potential. It is a good fit for her style and strengths. I also like her dress - I'm always a fan of criss-cross backs. In terms of her performance, she performs well with her body, but I find her facial expressions a bit awkward.

Another 1-2 by American Ladies in this challenger circuit 😮 👏
(They are killing it this season)

Maddie …. Better skate here for her. I don’t worry about her because she has five events (3 more to go) to improve her SB.

I’m sad for Sara-Maude 😭
The other Canadian ladies don’t get too many chances. I was hoping she would skate her free skate, as well as she skated at her last domestic event. Still, 166.31 is just above the Canadian benchmark of 166. So, this will be a plus. I think her 9th place finish means she won’t get any points though. She needed top 8. I wanted her to beat Maddie here
I feel sorry for Sarah too. I really like her and she has great potential. Not sure what’s going on in Canada though, where was their national champion? not to mention she only has one Grand Prix assignment. I hope she isn’t injured, they really really need her.

I think Kayla could do it..She is the reigning Canadian champion so she has beaten her. I do not believe the Kayla has had an international assignment so far this season. It is almost like the national federation does not want a real show down between the two of them. Maddie has not done that much and I think Kayla might be able to do better and let's face it Canada needs to look at other skaters if they want more than one the spot to go to Olympics in 2026.
I agree!! What the heck!! Where is the national champion!? What is going on with SkateCanada? Best not to put all the eggs in one basket.

Kaiya, our National Champion 2024, is competing at Denis Ten in two weeks time. She has competed once this summer, as Skate Canada has imposed a rule that all skaters need to compete once in the Summer, at least domestically. She posted the top score out of all our Ladies…. 180+. Her free skate program to Wonder Woman is good! I hope she does well at this upcoming Challenger event. I’m hoping for a 180+ score there, and a 90+ TES score, so she can solidify herself as our top Canadian lady over Maddie.

Also, Uliana, who beat Sara-Maude at both our domestic Challenger and Nationals, will be there as well. Uliana has skated 160+ at all her three domestic events. Her PCS isn’t very good. But, I think Uliana is capable to 90+ TES score and I have a feeling she could see higher PCS scores internationally and could potentially make it to 4CC this season.

She bombed her SP, skated early for her FS which was much better but imperfect, got harsh PCS and a lot of rotation calls. Don't fret, my beloved tends to peak later in the season and while all is not a bed of roses our girls are not going to plummet down just because of a few early season bad competitions. And Minsol... she's not going to represent Korea anymore, it's a painful subject so if you want more info talk to the Canadian skating fans
Ouch.....

I don't think it helps your case when the Canadian Senior National champion only finishes 11th at the Youth Olympics and 21st at Junior Worlds against much younger competition.

And at Junior Worlds she finished 0.55 points behind the American National Silver medalist. Results from last season can be picked to make any kind of case, what matters is what the skaters bring to the ice this season. Those results are not a reflection of what either skater will bring to the ice this season.

Kaiya is making changes to her layout that could help improve her TES, and I'm looking forward to seeing her compete at Denis Ten Memorial.
