Saint Ambrose of Milan (ITA): "When in Rome, do as the Romans do".

Barbara MESSMER / Lukas LOCHER (DEU): "When in Bavaria, do as the Bavarians do".

Lovely traditional Bavarian costumes they are wearing.

I just went looking to see if they are locals, and it turns out that she is Swiss and he is German (I don't know any more details). And the country they are down as representing is fluid. Sometimes it is Switzerland; sometimes it is Germany; sometimes it is both.

They go into the lead.

I think it's anybody that meets the age requirements.

From what I can tell from the skaters that I have looked up, a lot of the participants are coaches at skating clubs. And there are also a lot of enthusiastic amateurs (in the true sense of the word, not the Olympic sense).

But, with the sheer number of skaters competing, it is only a small number that I have been able to look up.

The following page on the ISU website gives a good summary, as well as a link to the detailed rules:

Hope this helps

Thanks a lot! It helped me so much.

I just looked Kathleen YARNOLD (AUS) up, and she actually belongs to the Macquarie club. That's the rink that @anonymoose_au skates at.
Man I've been slacking on going ice skating!

I don't know anyone by name at Macquarie, but looking on her Facebook page she does look vaguely familiar. I think I've seen her on the ice.

In other news I had no idea this competition was on! I'll have to take a look at it!

You definitely should. There is a good contingent of Aussies here. And Kiwis, for that matter.

In particular, there is a couple from Sydney, Louise and Bryan GRAYSON (LCCISC), that are competing in Singles, Pairs and Ice Dance (if there were enough Aussies to make up a Synchro team, I'm sure they would be in there too! ) And they are pretty good! Louise was 7th in her Ladies competition; Bryan was 4th in his Men's competition; they were 3rd in the Pattern Dances yesterday afternoon; and they won their Pairs competition yesterday morning!

They have today off (they didn't enter the second of the Pairs competitions, which is probably wise. After doing a programme each on Tuesday and 3 programmes together on Wednesday, they deserve some rest!), but are back in action doing their Free Dance tomorrow.

The atmosphere reminds me a lot of the World Team Trophy. It may be the biggest event of the season for the Adult Skaters (it is in effect their World Championships), but it is also an end-of-season blow-out! So, there is a good balance between the serious matter of competing, and having a whole lot of fun.

I am really enjoying watching it!

Sorry this is being done rather late. I decided to re-start the desktop half an hour ago, and it is still trying to re-start! :drama: So, with about 5 minutes to go before the start, I had to bring the laptop in and start it up instead.

Day 5 starts with a Bronze Ladies double-bill. First up are the Class III ladies doing thier Free Skate. 29 ladies, arranged into three groups of 7; followed by a agroup of 8.

Livestream for the Bronze III Ladies FS is now on air.

I'm back on the desktop, so I'll probably start commenting now (I really hate typing on the laptop. Those flat buttons on the keyboard are horrible to use).

I never noticed when she was doing her Artistic FS, but I was curious to see if Mandy KIRBY (GBR) had her son Joel with her when she was getting her results. But, he wasn't. (He's probably got his hands full at the moment learning a new programme for next season).

She went into 5th position.

Antonella DELL'AGNOLA (ITA) did a programme that Carmen Miranda would be proud of.

She was skating to "Bongo Cha Cha Cha" by Caterina Valente, and wearing a green bra with yellow trim, a matching wrap-around skirt, and a hat with fruit and flowers in it.

It was a lot of fun!

When she was waiting for her results, Mandy Kirby came into shot and threw something into her basket.

She goes into 18th position

On Monday, I comented about how beautiful Alev ŞAHIN (CAN)'s Free Skate was. Well, her Artistic Free Skate was beautiful too!

Great way to start the competition.

CaroLiza_fan

Vera ATAMANCUK (SRB) was skating to "The Joke's On You" by Charlotte Lawrence. And, although I haven't seen any Batman films (apart from the one that accompanied the 1960's TV series), I could tell as soon as I saw her that it had something to do with the Joker.

Her make-up was so similar to what Daniela VALLONI (ITA) had for her Artistic FS. I wonder if they swapped tips?

After announcing her scores, the ammouncer said there would be a pause as they are having technical problems with the scoring. After a long wait, she announced a different score, but the position was the same.

She goes into the lead.

When Manon MIGLIACCIO (FRA) came out wearing a black bra and yellow shorts, I had no idea what we would be getting.

Well, we she was skating to a girl singing in Japanese. And that's all I can say about what the song or the programme was about, since I don't speak Japanese.

She goes into 3rd position.

CaroLiza_fan

Teodora Nicole STELEA (GBR) was wearing a red dress, and skating to "Goodbye My Lover" by James Blunt (boys that's a name I haven't heard in a long time!)

She was good.

She goes into the lead.

CaroLiza_fan

Una ZSURAVLEVA (DEU) was skating to an instrumental piece what made me think of a circus marching through town. But, I have no idea id that is actually what it was supposed to make you think of.

She was wearing a beautiful blue dress, with massive mumus. They made a beautiful effect, although I was worried that they might cause a mishap.

She goes into the lead.

Can't say I'm surprised. I was expecting her to.

CaroLiza_fan

Evgeniya CHEREMUSHKINA (DEU) was waring a black dress. I know the song, but I wasn't able to make out enough lyrics to look up what it was.

She was good too!

And then she nearly tripped after finishing her bows! :drama:

She goes into the lead.

CaroLiza_fan

Never heard that version of "New York, New York" before that Kseniia BORYSENKO (UKRP was skating to. It was a female singer, and it had a slower feel to it than Frank Sinatra's original.

She was also wearing a black dress. And she was also good.

Unfortunately, the stream froze during the highlights, so I didn't see her getting her scores.
