2024 NHK Trophy Free Dance

Twice in the same thread : Only Patrick Chan should be allowed to skate on this music ;)
I would usually agree, (because Patrick is incredible) but I think it works really well for them. Bates clearly likes this music so he's performing almost as much as Madison. They just look so cool and it does highlight how close they skate, their good partnering, and works with the complexity of their program.

I think it works.

The last time I actually was fond of a Chock/Bates FD was their Sexy Snake Dance, and this program unfortunately failed to make a difference regarding that statement

“I hope it did the same for you.” OK Chris I confess, it didn’t do for me what it obviously did for you.

I actually think that the concept of the program—classy, smooth and iconic jazz—fits them well in their capacities as elder statesmen of dance/reigning world champions, but that the execution of the concept is not very imaginative or creative.

it does :) I am just being cheeky... Take 5 is my ultimate Patrick program ;)

My complaint is not about them right now. I just think the twizzles are slow and not fabulous but judges just automatically give them high GOE for them... i've noticed this over and over... and it doesn't sit well with me.

This was well skated other than that... Evan also seemed to have a small stumble in the characteristic step but that may be just my imagination.

Not so fondly known to me as the "Stand and Pose Dance."

Lol I had exactly the same thought. Chris is going on and on about how amazing it was, and I liked their rhythm dance better (even with all those music cuts).
I liked the FDs of Orihara/Pirinen, Demougeot/Le Mercier, and Green/Parsons, all more than this one. I’m sure it’s me, though

I hope CBC loses Chris again for pairs... i was having such a wonderful night, with you all, wine and the skating... no commentary.. and then, he appeared. SIGH
I understand you , is like old times when ESPN was broadcasting figure skating but the Spanish dubbing is horrible and the voice is like hear a car horn of shrill ( talk any other thing except the programs and technical aspects) and well change to English audio.

I'm sad the Italians are struggling this year. I like C/B and G/P but the skating quality of the Italians is just more my style. I think the Americans and the Canadians are going to battle the gold out. I do like them both and their programs, but G/F just have my heart.

At this competition, my favorites were the teams in 3,4 and 5. But, it was a well skated event.

C/B just seem like wonderful people in their interview. Happy for them.

That title applies to a lot of C/B programs, and I'm not saying that I found the Sexy Snake Dance choreographically innovative or technically intricate. It's just that 2020 4CC was the first major championship that I got to watch live and I was absolutely mesmerized by her dress, and I remember enjoying their skate. Doesn't even come close to what I felt with Both Sides Now but still a soft spot.

Well, I liked Madi and Evan, but then again, I like almost any Take Five program.

I also don't come from a base of "They are clearly so overscored, they both don't skate so well, they don't do anything special, and why doesn't my beloved artistic team with great skating skills score better", so there is that. ;)

I’ve been rooting for Chock and Bates since 2016, and it’s been a bumpy roller coaster ride at times. I’m thrilled they’re still going and have found success by continually challenging themselves with different styles of music. It does get a bit unpleasant sometimes, seeing all the negative comments, but then I remember pretty much every top team gets those after a while and nobody is going to be everyone’s cup of tea.
