The stages weren't even but the top 15 looks fair. As for the substitutes, those who were luckier with the stages are higher.

The only couple from the national team that didn't take part in the series is Arina Gorshenina & Ilya Makarov. They are not intented to apply for junior nationals.

National team members Irina Skopina & Dmitri Simonov haven't made to junior nationals being just 21th.

The field looks deeper than last season.

Much less teams took part in the series comparing to last season. Kind of expected. The level was still very high.

I wonder why Riana hasn't taken part in the qualification and in the series as a result. Nothing against Elvina (who is Riana's friend) but Riana looks stronger this season and was above Elvina at a local event recently.

Milana Lebedeva was technically good, but the program was usual AoP "over the top". They tried to do something like Anna's olympic SP but on the span of free skate, which does not work fully in this case.

Finally watched all of the girls. 1-2-3-4 some of the most enjoyable skating of the year. I agree with the order too, Pleskacheva was brilliant but got a little tired towards the end, but you can see that she has everything to a brilliant senior skater. Nice to see Prineva finally found some good form again, showing good signs that she might be back on track. I really enjoyed Petrova as well the jumps are always a little problematic, but today they were good, I liked her in the step sequence, and Kostyleva's score doesn't really show how good she was. She's on a completely different level to everyone else, perfect 3A-3T, really attacks the ice. The spin fell apart at the end and she must have got a time deduction did she, but that can be worked on. She's on another level to anyone.

Happy for Arina in pairs, hopefully she does both events in the final.

I also opted to just watch replays this time. Only watched Kostyleva. In general she is the best. I don't understand why their choreo has her standing in the middle of the ice for multiple seconds in the middle of the program. It's hideous. Hasn't Plushenko abandoned everyone to focus on this girl and he has her just standing there? Couldn't make her wave her arms around or something? This is all so low-effort. Fatal to any immersion. Frankly a disrespect to both viewer and athlete.

Really think about it. She just stands in the middle of ice for seconds (unforgivable—it should never happen in skating) and earns higher CO than Lydia (who has by a margin the best junior SP in the world). Did not even re-watch Lydia for this reason. The judging ruins it. Kostyleva's PR is quite good otherwise in this SP which makes the composition so much more pathetic.

Recently we had a discussion who is the second best girls coach. We saw Bulycheva now and her name should have been mentioned too. Although she is great mainly in preparing little girls 9-12 who then achieve junior/senior success elsewhere, often with Eteri.
