2025 CS Nebelhorn Trophy Women's Free Skate

I'm not usually a Mone fan but she really engaged in that program and was the rightful winner of the FS for sure! Amber seems injured but I love the new costume and most of the jumps were great (until the end). Isabeau's program was also lovely. She did what she does well and it never bores me. Her jumps are getting better and the new layout deemphasizes her ugly take offs becauses she no longer does two lutzes in combination. Jia is absolutely a beautiful skater. But, this program is really boring. I think she should bring back her Not About Angels program since she obviously isn't going to be experimenting this year.

I agree her not about angels program was her best FS, I would love her to go back to this program for the Olympic ! With this FS, she would be in the mix for a medal at the Olympic.

Isabeau getting 3rd in both the sp and fs but finishing 4th is a bit sad...overall, her score didn't change at all from Cranberry due to the calls, but if she's clean, her ceiling should be around 220. Definitely in a good position to lock down that Olympic spot. And it's nice to see her jumps improving after everyone was acting like it would never happen and she wasn't working on it.
Mone should have won the whole thing, but happy to see her rotating her jumps better than in the sp
Jia, once again, nice to see her doing better than last season, but her programs are such a snoozefest...I agree she should bring back what about angels. That and her 21/22 sp were her best programs

Wow! Great scores at the podium. Levito didn't even medal with 207.

Worrying reasult from Yoshida, and Kaiser seems to be injured?

Top 4 skaters were heads and shoulders above the rest just judging by the scores it seems.

I don’t like Chiba’s free; you can’t get any more generic than a Romeo and Juliet program. However, this is one of the few times that I knew she was going to do well. She looked calm and confident on the ice. I felt she was committing to what she was doing and not afraid of the ice at all. Lovely spins and steps as always.
Agree, she is a beautiful skater with good flow, spins and skating skills, but her programs..., it's not that I don't like them but they are generic mostly to me, she is boring sometimes, other times she does interesting or funny programs

I prefer her new sakura SP,
I wonder why her team change the SP, it was great vehicle for her.
I'm tired of her last dance SP, it was a great program last season, but she needs to go in a different direction and the Sakura SP was absolutely beautiful.

Wow, you are right! The Sakura SP looks excellent! I am so sick of Last Dance and despite others who loved it, I didn't think it suited her style very well. I hope she switches back. Sakura seems more like an Olympic program, too. Beautiful, interesting, unique.

Mone Chiba's "Sakura" SP was combination of two different pieces at Dreams on Ice (late Jun).
1st half was AUN J CLASSIC ORCHESTRA and 2nd half was Toshio HOSOKAWA.

Their team ditched AUN J CLASSIC ORCHESTRA at Summer Cup (early August).

Then they returned to old program at CS Kinoshita Group Cup (early September),
siting the reason is Respecting copyright and the author's creative intentions.

IMO, discarding AUN J CLASSIC ORCHESTRA part wasn't good
and if they can't help to do it it is better to return to Last Dance.

But I also heard some opinion that 1st part was annoyingly loud.

ETA: I also think it is great idea to combine completely different arrangement of same traditional tune.
But composers might not happy about it. Therefore they had to respect author's creative intentions.

Amber apparently had a cramp near the end of her program, that's why she was in pain. No injury I think.

Livia WD made me really sad. She didn't look too good in the short too and her practices...well, she fell a lot on her jumps. Also her knee was heavily taped. I wonder if this still is the same thing that kept her from competing at Euros, and what this means for the rest of her season and for the Swiss Olympic participation, since they have two spots but no other skaters than Kimmy and Livia they could send. Well, GPdF is coming up soon so we will see what happens...

Mone was so lovely...and that bear she had in the K&C was special, it's wearing her free skate dress 😁 a friend sewed the dress and when the screen at the rink switched to theK&C and we saw the bear, we screamed 😂

I also want to mention Oona Ounasvuori and Nela Snebergerova who didn't place high but were just lovely to watch.

Just to add to this... I completely agree with @denise3lz - the Sakura SP that Mone did at Summer Cup wasn't good at all. The music was very heavy and you can't even hear the actual Sakura tune, it just sounded like dramatic orchestra background music for the entire program.

And looks to me Mone herself was not enjoying the music (understandably). Here's her SP performance at Summer Cup (video from @tsuyoboogie in the Summer Cup thread):
Senior Women SP (listed in placement order)
6. Mone Chiba

(IMO even the original Dreams on Ice version was only slightly better, the AUN J Classic Orchestra part with the traditional instruments sounded interesting, but it still didn't highlight the iconic Sakura tune enough for me)

Also Mone can be pretty nervy especially in the SP, so it's very understandable that she prefers something lighter and more fun for her SP, especially in Olympic season 🙂
