2025 CS Lombardia Trophy Men's Short Program

I am sadly unable to see anything at the moment...but did Kao just pull off a miracle?!? 😍

Yes. He seemed completely unbothered. And those jumps looked even more effortless than the end of last season.

I'm guessing an average of +4 on all three jumping passes, simply scanning the protocols.
Of note, the protocol also includes a V designation on the combo spin. I'm know that means a basic deficiency in the spin - position or number of rotations or something... anyone smart enough to spot the exact deficiency?

I have watched the three guys I wanted to watch

Adam : well, my issue is not even the costume. I just don't like La terre vue du ciel. It's insipid music. What they've done with it is great though. The program is really well crafted and in style with what Adam has been putting on the ice in the last couple years. I am not offended by the costume at all. He does look like a painting or a sculpture and it fits the Leonardo theme. It's busy. I agree. It could have been so much better. I agree... but maybe it's because I paint a bit, I liked it. It also works with the music in the sense that the costume is made to look like he is just a simple "human" with the "torso" here. So, kind of what humans could have looked from the sky in the "beginnings"
The jumps need to be more stable of course. I think the toe would have been fine but he landed too close to the boards. The step sequence was awesome. I loved it. I even forgot about how much I dislike the music because he was skating to it so perfectly well. So, to me, this is not a miss at all... and I am sorry to be the dissident voice here who doesn't hate the costume.

Ilia : there won't be commentary on the costume - training gear. Ilia looks like his skating is flowing better. In the first half, even if there is not much to it, at least the glide seemed better to me than in the past. The jumps are of course, unbeatable. I hated the second half of the program. I have no idea what music it was in the first nor the second part, but in the first part, I was listening and watching quietly and appreciating the program. Then, suddenly, as if a child in tears, screaming in my ears, had appeared in my living room, the second part came in. Sure, he likes that stuff, and he wants upbeat music to show off his step sequence, but it doesn't work for me at all. Unlike Yuma and Adam, the build towards the step sequence doesn't happen because it's an abrupt shift. Final comment : I wish he would show a bit restraint. Every year, he brings a new trick and it just piles up. First the raspberry twist. Second the back flip. Now that hand on the ice showy move at the end. I think he should have just kept that last move. It works with the music and it's new. When he did the backflip, I thought, okay, next raspberry twist, a sliding move etc...Instead of being innovative, it gets as predictable as some judges in ice dance. I like that he is pushing himself to bring some more acrobatics into the sport because, that's cleary something that excites him, and I respect that. But I do not like that he is just piling it up, move after move. It's getting to the point that I feel that I am watching a gymnast do a tumbling pass instead of a figure skater. This being said, it's obviously going to be hard to beat him if the quality of his jumps stays that strong.

Yuma : that was my favourite program of the day. Simple, jazzy music. Simple costume. But oh my, beautiful skating and honest interpretation. Of course, he got a cramp in the middle of the program, so I am waiting to see what this could be later on. I am betting we missed a bit of the choreo because it did happen between the spin and the axel which is supposed to be in the second half... so the moment he took to stretch his calf, probably had a few moves in there. I like the step sequence. It's more subtle than the other two and that pleases me.

In the end, all 3 skaters are so different that well.. go pick your own favourite :) I am not sure whom I will prefer by the end of the season but so far, Yuma has charmed me with his SP.

Haven't seen any of them. Just skimmed through the thread. Looking forward to see videos. Especially Malinin and Memola, but of course all if possible.

unique yes, new no. he's recycling it for the 3rd year in a row
no?...season 2023/24 he skated to 'Hurt' by Johnny Cash... which was also a top-notch program (Andreas Nordebäck)

or am i wrong? time flies

Astronomical pressure? Ah comon, he just got 1.5 points more than Kagiyama in PCS. He doesn't even have to go onto the ice, the judges will give him the Olympic gold anyway.
This is the one time where I am okay with Ilia getting higher PCS than Yuma. Yuma, with his cramp, stopped skating for quite a while. That would affect the performance and the choreography. Not the skating skills mind you.
