2025 CS Lombardia Trophy Men's Short Program

Some comments. wow in respect to Ilia. He has game!! TEchnically no one is going to touch him probably. I know Yuma is injured but like Kaori they need to regain their consistency. Still Ilia is eviscerating th epack 13 pt lead!!! I was so hopeful for Max. Sad about the 3A but he can land it. The Italian boys are going to be mixing it up with the French boys, Cha, Mikail, Georgia, Jason et al. I like Adam's program and will follow it with great anticipatin throughout the GPS.

Like watching a 4-year-old stand in place and jump up and down 7 times. So much excitement it makes my toes tingle. :yes2:
Different strokes for different folks, I guess. For me, I would not like to see men's figure skating go in the direction of "extreme sports" like snowboarding, aerial skiing, parkour. etc. But these activities seem to be increasingly popular.

I would like men to know how to skate - masters of the blade. There's a reason a man can score 49 on a Short Program PCS and another one never will. As for skiing, I love racing, aerials, and moguls. Also, the U.S. will have its phenom speedskater Jordan Stolz going for 3 gold medals at the OLYG for the first time in decades. This guy is something else.

Jordan is amazing... and I bow to him... and I am grateful that my Laurent already has earned enough because he won't earn much more medals with Jordan being there.

And I am quoting you for emphasis. When looking at the top 30 men in the world, how many can we say truly really skate ? They don't all have to be Patrick Chan, though that would be nice to see a guy master the blade like he did, but yeah...

I recall Vincent Zhou once saying he didn't want to be a guy who merely skated from one end of the rink to the other and jumping. Well, with more and more quads being added, that really is all that's happening. It gets boring. Repetition can do that.

Patrick said that already with 3 quads, it diminished skating severely and that's why he was very reluctant to add more. Now it's like 5-7 quads... And we see that. Skating happens only in the last minute of the LPs when skaters bring their Steps and Choreo Seq... The SPs are better to watch in that sense. There are a couple of exceptions but not enough for me.

Just thought you'd like to know . . . word has it a male skater requested his FS runthrough for Lombardia not be shared.

Most of the men are bringing their steps and choreography only in the last minute. This is true. Yet only a handful are attempting more than three quads and only Ilia’s doing 5-7. Programs are not getting more interesting as the quads go down. They aren’t the sole problem here; otherwise, the ladies and junior men will have fantastic programs with complex choreography yet this is not so.

Read my post again. What is the operative word? "Runthrough." It was just the runthrough that was requested not to be shared by anyone. And one other thing . . . who said it was Adam? It isn't.

but that's part of the point though..

since the focus is on upping the base value, it's no longer on skating skills... nor choreography. Some succeed better than others :)

Wow, the men's short had everything: first 100+ program of the season, Yuma taking a break and still finishing on the music, an axel combo, Adam's costume . . . I was on the edge of my seat!

I bought my ticket to see Ilia, and I've already had my money's worth with his electrifying program debut. :yes1: I loved his performance, as creative as it was exhilarating, the drop dead gorgeous 4F, and the "transitional" 3A. I'm looking forward to seeing his actual costume, but I discovered that I didn't mind the stripped down training gear look for the debut. Plenty opportunities to see the full package later.

I thought Yuma's program looked crisper and better than Dreams on Ice. I'm really sorry he suffered from leg cramps (it freaked me out when he stopped), but it truly disrupted the performance and I honestly think that should have impacted the PCS more. 🤔

I'd nominate Makar Suntsev for a WTF award, but what's the point when Adam is going to win anyway. I think there are other ways to make a Leonardo themed program and all of the alternatives that I've thought of so far seem better in my opinion (which is obviously different than Benoit's). I miss Adam's old SP already. Wonder what the Michelangelo program has in store for us?! 🫣

Kao performed much better than I'd feared. I'm not sure if he is at the point where he should be resting or skating, but hopefully it's the latter. His program is too heavily Benoit flavored for my personal taste, but I thought he performed it well. Can he turn his fortunes around now? 👍

While it is great to see the ever entertaining Luc Economides skate well, my enjoyment of it was spoilt by his use of the music of an avowed Nazi supporter. There are other things to skate to 🫥

Some highlights included Corentin Spinar, whom I do not remember seeing before. One of my favorite programs of the event 👏. I also liked Kyrylo Marsak's beautiful performance to Fall on Me. I thought it was emotional even before I found out that it is a tribute to his father. Jumps looked good as well, and after popping the first part of his combo he did well to put a perfect triple on the end. 🌻

If you point to Adam not sharing his Short and Free program at competition (while all other competitiors didn't mind broadcasting Kevin Aymoz including, completely new couple Laurence Fournier-Beaudry & Guillaume Cizeron including)...

Ilia Malinin asked fans not to share his Free program RUNTHROUGH during practise. He usually shares it, that is true, but he is one of few doing that (there is video of Yuma's program, not others). Ilia's runthrough is with marked jumps only, missing spins, it is far from how program looks at competition.

Asking fans for favour to wait till competition... is different than asking Federation / TV broadcasting organisation to be the only one from all competitors not to be broadcasted during competition.

Both men have right to do this. But I find the situation completely different.

No him, instagram has parts of his runthrough on official (I think...) fan profiles.

I think it's ok if a skater doesn't want his practice on social media. Especially with all the focus on Ilia. If he wants to try something in secret without the media freaking out about it I think that's ok. Just imagine the hype if a video shows up of him doing 5x jump in practice. I totally understand that.
What I didn't understand was that Adam asked French Television not to show his programms during the French Championships or testskates (don't remember what it was exactly) Once it's an official competition he should have it ready to show or not take part at all. That was just diva like

Maybe they both had a right to do it but TBH I don't like it in either case. I think rules should be the same for everyone unless there is some very serious reason to grant an exemption. If a public event is streamed, then every performance should be streamed, no opting out unless for some very serious concern which I cannot think about off my head. If recording is allowed in public practice sessions, then it is the same for everyone. No one's program is more worthy of being kept a secret that someone else's. None of the two guys here is the first or only one in history to be not ready at a very early stage of the season, come to an event ill or injured and badly bomb, or mark jumps in a runthrough at a practice session. It is them asking for special treatment and being exempted from public view that makes it peculiar.
To be clear, I don't see it as a huge problem, but rather setting a bad precedence. What's next? Alysa asking for her skate to be cut out from the stream because she had a boot problem? That's a far off example, I think she wouldn't do it, it but TBH why not when looking at the men?
