2025 JGP Baku Women's Short Program

Am I going mad? I thought I saw both of the Festić twins in an entry list in the past week. And I thought it was here. But Nadia isn't here. It's just Leila.

Unfortunately, the squares in the TES Box largely match her dress.

But, the revisions must have gone her way, because this is a good score.

She goes into 5th position.

Leila is so elegant and poised. 3S-2T to start, another 2A with a hand down, which is apparently the curse of these first two groups, rippon loop. I like her camel spin. Knee slide after the flying sit spin, and a knee slide at the end, before she pops up for the ending pose. Is that an euler after her twizzles in the step sequence?

Ooh, I like Gabriele's binary stars pulling each other apart, very striking. Plenty of choreography at the start before the 2A with a falling leaf exit. Catchfoot spiral before she goes down the diagonal to build speed for the combo, and oh no, down on the 3Lz. I really enjoyed that step sequence, very pretty illusion turn in it.

Viktoriya looks satisfied with that. Rippon 3Lo to start, followed by rippon 2A. Her ch combo spin looks pretty centred. Nice split jump with amplitude and a cool cantilever across the diagonal, gets applause from the audience. Tano 2F-2T, rotation in her layback seems quick.

A good JGP debut for Karina! Luminous dress, which I can't decide the colour of, as it looks more pink and red in one camera and more orange in another. Wonky 2A landing, down on the 3Lo, but uses every bit of determination and strength she has to get that 2T on the end of the salchow. Some leg-kicking flair in her step sequence, very Kamila-esque position in the upright spin.

Jiaying is very smooth across the ice, and gives the impression of speed. Spread eagle early on, 2A as the first jump, a fall on the 3Lz-3T and two-footed landing on the 3Lo. Good flexibility in the I-spin and Biellmann, and a pretty Ina Bauer at the start of the step sequence. Head back twizzles with open arms! Ted says this may be a tribute programme to the skaters lost in the plane crash.

Kahlan starts off with choreography and a pretty arabesque spiral; she misses the loop completely, sitting down and sliding instead. Nice 3T-2T, and a gorgeous Biellmann in her layback. Ina Bauer across the diagonal into her 2A. Plenty of penché type leans in her step sequence, though she doesn't always commit fully to them. Nice change foot combo spin, which shows off how supple she is. Flying sit spin gets away from her at the end, but she is taking it quite stoically.
