Emilea and Vadym finished 6th out of 6 in the Short Dance, with a score of 75.78.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread just after the broadcast started:

Here is what I wrote about the Warm-Up in the competition thread:

And here is what I wrote about the programme:

The first comment was from Italian member @bartlebooth, who stated the obvious:

To which I jokingly replied:

And then @bartlebooth came back with:

Back to the skating, and our resident video archive list compiler, @labgoat, was posistive:

My friend from Australia, @anonymoose_au, was very positive too:

Polish member @Karoltyna was particulary impressed wit Emilea:

@GGFan was positively glowing about them:

@museksk8r pointed out something worrying:

Not-the-band @cocteautwin was the first to notice the elephant in the room:

German member @Jumping_Bean was confused by it (to be fair, I think we all were!):

After me complaining so much about Mark's pronounciation of Emilea's first name, @lariko was complaining about his pronounciation of Vadym's surname:

@lileychristie in Australia was shocked by the deductions:

And neighbour from a different state @anonymoose_au was thoroughly confused by it:

MORE TO BE EDITED IN DURING FORMULA 1 FREE PRACTICE 3

Emilea and Vadym are currently 3.70 points behind 5th position, Allison REED / Saulius AMBRULEVICIUS (LTU), and 6.77 points behind 4th position, Lilah FEAR / Lewis GIBSON (GBR).

Emilea and Vadym finished 6th out of 6 in the FD, with a score of 117.83. This meant that they remained in 6th position overall, with a score of 193.61.

Here is what I wrote about the Warm-Up in the competition thread:

And here is what I wrote about the programme:

Before the competition started, our resident video archive list compiler labgoat came out with a lovely comment:

Australian member TallyT approved of the music:

While Italian member bartlebooth commented:

Not-the-band cocteautwin was very impressed:

So was RatedPG:

FSFan1999 didn't like the programme itself, but did like the skating:

labgoat reminded us of what Mark had told us during the SD:

auser enjoyed them:

Dawn825 was another that appreciated the music:

Can't argue with that! Although, for the past 15 years, I haven't been able to stop myself from singing "What's your favourite children's book of the last 10 years?" whenever I hear the tune...

Looking at the Protocols, as usual, there were no issues at all.

The GOE ranged from +1.51 for the sixth element, the Curved Lift, to +3.57 for the seventh element, the Roller Lift-Stationary Lift. The latter had the highest Base Value of the programme, so it remained as the highest scoring element of the programme.

Incidentally, the eighth element, the Diagonal Step Sequence, had the second biggest GOE of the programme, at 2.84. And because it had the second highest Base Value, it remained as the second highest scoring element of the programme.

Apart from two +1's from Judge 2 (for the second element, the Twizzles, and the fourth element, the Dance Spin), all the Judges marks were in the +2 to +5 range.

Emilea and Vadym finished the Free Dance 2.30 points behind 5th position, Allison REED / Saulius AMBRULEVICIUS (LTU), and 8.03 points behind 4th position, Piper GILLES / Paul POIRIER (CAN).

Overall, Emilea and Vadym finished 6.09 points behind 2nd position, Gilles / Poirier, and 3.96 points ahead of 4th position, Smart / Dieck.

Unfortunately, somebody has to finish in last position. And at this event, it was Emilea and Vadym's turn. But, they certainly did not disgrace themselves. They were actually very good.

After the competition had finished, and ManyCairns replied to my coment about the programme with this:

To which I replied:

At all of their competitions this season, they have proved that they can compete with the best. And this will serve them in good stead going into Nationals. As I said in the final paragraph of my reply to ManyCairns, this will be their most important event of the season as so much hinges on it.

Oh, I hope they can do it!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Blades and Banter has a new 85 minute interview with Emi and Vadym:

Covers tons of topics in detail and includes the lowdown on the deductions at GPF (they sat down with the tech panel in Japan).

The kids are as delightful and candid as ever.

^^^I've only had time to watch part of the interview so far, but it is REALLY interesting. They cover so many topics. They seem like genuinely nice people with lots of determination. Can't wait to see them compete at Nats.

^^ I posted the same Blades & Banter interview with Emi & Vadym in the U.S. ice dance thread.

Also,
Vadym & Emilea at a holiday show recently. Does anyone know where this was being held? Was it at the Detroit-area rink where they train or somewhere else?

That's our very own @apgold 's video. The Gold on Ice event was at the Penn Ice Rink in Philadelphia.

The Blades and Banter podcast was a delight to watch! I think this is the first time Emi and Vadym had a proper, in-depth interview. Very refreshingly informal, with lots of fun banter. It struck me how in sync they are off the ice. It almost feels like they grew up together!

I've followed their career peripherally the last few years, but this is the year I truly got hooked 😂 I think they're just starting to skim the surface... if they can do double throws and such, who knows what else they're capable of!

Fingers and toes crossed that they make the Olympic team.

After many years of admiring the avatar that @elektra blue had of Daniel Grassl wearing one of @NoNameFace's flower crowns 🌻 👑 , I now finally have an avatar that features @NoNameFace's beautiful handiwork as well! :love: In fact, doubly so!

Thank you so much for making them! :bow: :clap: :points:

Emi and Vadym were phenomenal in the RD! Big scores! Well deserved. This pair have an amazing performance quality in them for such a young team!

US Championships Senior Short Dance: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Emilea and Vadym finished 2nd out of 15 in the Short Dance, with a score of 85.98.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch LIVE as (a.) I am in the UK and the coverage is geo-blocked over here and (b.) I was already in bed anyway. :bed:

The first comment about them in the competition thread came during the Warm-Up from Polish member @Karoltyna, who declared:

:bow: I could never manage to stay up until 1am to watch anything LIVE, no matter how big a fan I was!

When it was their turn to skate, our resident video archive list compiler @labgoat posted:

After they finished, @museksk8r commented:

Spoiler Alert: they scored more! :biggrin:

@Karoltyna came back to say:

No stranger to this thread, @momrk made a typing error (easy done, the buttons are diagonally beside each other), but I totally agree with the sentiment:

@auser commented:

Well, he is British. He knows class when he sees it! ;)

And @Karoltyna came back again to add:

Shush! We don't want to tempt fate! (Or, should I say, Rinky!)

After the final partnership, Madison CHOCK / Evan BATES (All Year FSC / Ann Arbor FSC), some more comments referring to Emilea and Vadym came through. The first was from @ruffledgrouse:

@labgoat then pointed out:

@TontoK said what I often think (although I can't comment about this occasion as I haven't seen any of this competition):

To which @Karoltyna replied:

A minute earlier, she had posted:

While @ruffledgrouse was sharing the love with Caroline GREEN / Michael PARSONS (Pavilion SC of Cleveland Heights / Washington FSC), who finished the SD in 4th position:

@Joan1940 also agreed that Emilea and Vadym were better than Madison and Evan:

@Arriba627 was really positive about them:

I absolutely love their Free Dance too!

About 7 hours later, @crazydreamer was expressing high expectations:

To which @ManyCairns replied a few hours later:

To be honest, I don't hope they go on to dominate. Because when athletes start dominating (in any sport), I tend to go off them. And I don't want to go off Emilea and Vadym. I would be happy enough for them to be one of a group of partnerships that were always in the fight for the titles. That way, the competitions are more exciting, and there is more of a sense of achievement for coming out on top.

Looking at the Protocols, there were no issues. The GOE ranged from +1.92 for the fourth element, the Roller Lift, to +5.79 for the final element, the Choreographic Rhythm Sequence. These two elements were actually the two lowest scoring elements of the programme. Despite getting by far the highest GOE of the programme, the Choreographic Rhythm Sequence was the second lowest scoring element of the programme, because it had the lowest Base Value of the programme. The first three elements had by some distance the three highest Base Values of the programme and, hence, remained the three highest scoring elements of the programme.

All of the Judges marks were either +3 or +4.

Emilea and Vadym are currently 5.72 points behind 1st position, Madison CHOCK / Evan BATES (All Year FSC / Ann Arbor FSC), and 2.69 points ahead of 3rd position, Christina CARREIRA / Anthony PONOMARENKO (SC of New York / SC of San Francisco).

When I was making out my Predictions, of course I wanted to put Emilea and Vadym in first position. But I knew fine well that Chock / Bates are the chosen ones. In the end, I decided to be cautious and put them into 3rd position, as I was worried that putting them higher might jinx them. And so far, that tactic is working out beautifully. Going into the Free, Emilea and Vadym are in a very good position to claim the 🥈 Silver Medal. But, they still need to have a good Free Dance, because if they make any mistakes, Carreira / Ponomarenko are within striking distance.

So, let's hope they do have a good Free Dance!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Free Dance is due to start at 14:28:00 CST (13:28:00 MST / 20:28:00 GMT / 22:28:00 EET). So 8 hours from now.

Emilea and Vadym will be the 14th and penultimate partnership to start. So, fourth and penultimate partnership to go in Group 3.

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 18:57:30 CST Saturday (17:57:30 MST Saturday / 00:57:30 GMT Sunday / 02:57:30 EET Sunday). So 12h 29m from now.

Emilea and Vadym are due to start at 19:26:30 CST Saturday (18:26:30 MST Saturday / 01:26:30 GMT Sunday / 03:26:30 EET Sunday). So 12h 58m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws.

The first comment about them in the competition thread came during the Warm-Up from Nigerian member @YuBluByMe, who declared:

@museksk8r, meanwhile, had divided loyalties:

@museksk8r also posted the next comment about them, although it wasn't until after they did their programme:

@moonvine, who was in the audience, told us:

Thank you for showing them your love! :thank:

@auser enjoyed the programme:

As did our bastion of positivity, @Jeanie19:

@YuBluByMe came back to say:

To which our resident video archive list compiler, @labgoat, replied:

@moonvine was happy with the scores:

Mmmmm. I'm not sure about sharing custody.

I assume @labgoat was talking about Emilea and Vadym when she commented:

@slider11 was complimentary, athough I don't understand the second sentence:

And regular contributor to this thread @momrk commented:

Ignoring the typing errors (easy done!), @SmileHappy34 was impressed with the scores:

After skating finished, @16Olympics did an in-depth summary of the Top 4:

@ManyCairns was delighted for Emilea and Vadym, but wasn't happy about the order of 3rd and 4th position:

@rain also did an in-depth summary of the Top 3, but wasn't as enthusiastic about Emilea and Vadym's interpretation as @16Olympics was:

@LeReveur gave their views on five of the Top 6 as an audience member:

And the final word came from new member (and poster in this thread) @teraytan, who was another who did an in-depth summary of the Top 4 (plus the Shibutanis):

Looking at the Protocols, as ever, there were no issues at all.

The GOE ranged from +1.85 for the sixth element, the Curved Lift, to +3.98 for the seventh element, the Roller Lift-Stationary Lift. The latter had the highest Base Value of the programme, so it remained as the highest scoring element of the programme.

All the Judges marks were in the +2 to +5 range.

Emilea and Vadym finished the Free Dance 9.50 points behind 1st position, Madison CHOCK / Evan BATES (All Year FSC / Ann Arbor FSC), and 4.01 points ahead of 3rd position, Christina CARREIRA / Anthony PONOMARENKO (SC of New York / SC of San Francisco).

Overall, Emilea and Vadym finished 15.22 points behind 2nd position, Chock / Bates, and 6.70 points ahead of 4th position, Carreira / Ponomarenko.

They did it!!! They won the 🥈 Silver Medal!!! And in the process, they achieved new Absolute PB scores in the Short Dance, the Free Dance, and overall!!!

:cheer: :clap: :rock: :party2: :points: :hb:

As @dorispulaski posted above last night, they have also been confirmed on the team for all the Majors. So, they are going to have a busy few months ahead of them!

I had been planning on going back to my normal avatar today, in preparation for the European Championships starting on Wednesday. But, in light of this result, I think I will bask in Emilea and Vadym's glory for a bit longer! :biggrin:

I'm so proud of them!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

New GoFundMe (created one day ago):

Support Vadym’s Olympic Dream

Excerpts from Vadym's heartfelt message:

My name is Vadym Kolesnik, and I am a Ukrainian-born figure skater proudly representing Team USA in ice dance at the 2026 Winter Olympics. .... Growing up in Ukraine shaped who I am, both as an athlete and as a person. In recent years, my journey has carried extra weight as my homeland continues to face unimaginable hardship. While I train and compete internationally, my family remains in Ukraine, and being separated from them during such a pivotal moment in my career has been incredibly difficult.

As I prepare for the Olympics, I am facing significant financial challenges. Elite-level training requires extensive resources, including coaching fees, ice time, choreography, travel, and competition expenses. In addition, my greatest personal hope is to be able to bring my family from Ukraine to safely attend the Olympic Games—to finally have them in the stands after years apart, witnessing the dream we’ve all sacrificed for together.

Your support will go directly toward:
• Coaching and training expenses as I prepare for the 2026 Winter Olympics
• Travel and logistics related to elite international competition
• Helping my family travel safely from Ukraine to be with me at the Games

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps relieve the financial burden and allows me to focus fully on training, competing, and honoring both the country that raised me and the country I now represent. Thank you for believing in my journey, for supporting Olympic dreams, and for helping turn this once-in-a-lifetime moment into something I can share with my family. Your generosity means more than words can express

With great thanks,
Vadym
