They did I don't get what happened...I know a large group of his fans were deeply upset about the Eurovision thing (your guess is as good as mine as to why, I thought that was awesome when I found out about it!) and turned their fan board into a hate board (I wonder if some of the fans quoted in that story are among them...)

I guess he overstayed his welcome and that he didn't do good enough at his last two Olympics. Reminds me of the UK press and Andy Murray, when he does well they're happy to claim him, when he loses he's suddenly "That guy from Scotland"

Plushenko is very different from all other skaters. In Russia, even those people who are indifferent to figure skating know him well. Valieva has just shown a phenomenal program, but if she wanted to get lost in the street crowd, she would have done it with ease, and no one would have recognized her. But Plushenko will be recognized instantly, even if he disguises himself.

When a person is so bright, everything becomes noticeable in him, even the smallest details. This means that there are also more possible reasons for hostility. I knew a woman who genuinely admired Plushenko's free skating, but literally went crazy with hatred while watching the Gala. It looked ridiculous.

There were very different claims against him, the list would probably consist of several thousand items, and participation in Eurovision is just one of the reasons. Helping Putin in the elections, marrying Rudkovskaya, the long-term war against Yagudin and Tarasova, refusing to fight at the Sochi Olympics - everything went into this "medal score".

With all this, I believe that if Plushenko manages to train at least one world champion among men in his academy, the attitude towards him will dramatically improve (at least temporarily). In the meantime, the Plushenko-coach haters resemble impatient gardeners who are sure that if they planted a tree yesterday, then today they can pick apples from it.

Thank you for the insight on the Russian view of Plushy @Alex Fedorov He's an interesting character that's for sure! I do remember seeing some brief Russian news story thing where the reporter went around with photos of athletes asking people on the street if they recognised them. I think Plushy was the only one all of them recognised.

Once I was talking with my Godmother here in Australia about my pet fish who I'd named after Plushy, she immediately knew who he was! Now maybe she's big into skating (I don't see her that often) still the was a few years back after Plushy had retired, so my mind was blown a bit.

A couple of days back I posted a random story about Plushy on Insta and my friend mentioned her mother would know about it - admittedly I haven't found out if she means figure skating in general, but I thought it was cool.

if I remember correctly, it was exactly the "sex bomb". But no, she did not become his real hater and later watched his performances with pleasure. Those old photos are a goldmine, I have one where he's wearing double denim and sandals and sitting by the riverside.

In other news there was a post explosion over at the Plushy topic on the FS Cool Board, I was wondering what it could be and it turns out T Tarasova gave an interview on TV and was less than polite about Plushy, was downright nasty to Yana and dismissive of Sasha P's prospects (not entirely sure about the last bit, you know Google Translate) and wow! It set off a whole debate! I thought I lived in the past but there was like 5 pages of Salt Lake City discourse!

Then yesterday Yana gave an interview in reply, always a bad move TBH. Tarasova gave her interview a few days back and everyone was pleased that neither Plushy or Yana had anything to say about it - taking the high road as it were. Alas now it's a big mess... again...and only 3 weeks from the Senior Nats too.

Thanks a lot T Tarasova. Not sure what they needed to interview her for, did she have any ground-breaking insights? I think not. "Yagudin was the best skater ever, I know, I coached him myself...Plushenko doesn't have an artistic bone in his body and is a fake coach" film at 11.

Hmpf as some posters on the thread over there suggested, I bet Channel 1 NTV (or whatever they're called) did this on purpose to get more eyeballs watching Nats. Drama for drama's sake.

Grumble, I hate that kind of crap.

I'll say one thing...though Yana shouldn't have brought up Sasha and Aliona (that was idiotic) she's far nicer to T Tarasova than I'd ever be. I have several things I'd like to say to that woman, none of which is printable. If her aim is to destroy Russian figure skating from the inside, bravo to her, she's doing a fine job.

I still don't see the point of the interviewer even asking those questions. Everyone knows what Tarasova thinks about Plushy, I know it and I'm not even Russian.

It was a stupid interview and someone should get their butt fired.

I have to say that the bulk of this show was about very different issues. But I still didn't like it, it was unpleasant to watch.

She has a heavy despotic character, probably inherited from her father. A well-known fact of the biography of Tarasova - her second husband committed suicide after a quarrel. But, on the other hand, she has trained a lot of figure skating champions. I think she is jealous of both Tutberidze and Plushenko, because she herself was never able to create her own figure skating school after returning from the United States.

Now, according to her, she no longer wants to start anything. She is almost paralyzed and does not really hope to live even one year. But skaters and coaches still listen to her words, otherwise Rudkovskaya would not answer.

Sasha Trusova is similar in some aspects to Plushenko - she is very ambitious, always striving for new records and achievements. Like Eugene once, she would like to perform jumps in five turns. I think he felt this mental closeness, and therefore chose her. But the "base" for Sasha was created by Eteri anyway. Perhaps this was precisely the mistake: it was too late to remake Sasha.

Perhaps someone should remind/inform her that Plushy was not just "given" a school. The Russian Figure Skating Fed is certainly not falling over themselves to do the Academy any favours.

I'll admit I don't know the ins and outs of T Tarasova's life, but if she expected to be gifted a school that's got nothing to do with Plushy.
