Female Skaters who appear to have enough power in their jumps to land a quad

I'm stealing this from the other thread. Let's discuss some names (feel free to drop names) of female skaters whom you think had enough power in their jumps to land quads. I'll start with naming some skaters whom I think have the "power":

*Tatiana Malinina - ever watch salchow in slo-mo?

*Josee Chouinard - Though many say she wasn't consistent, when she was on, she had a lot of room on her jumps right before the landing.

Power jumpers are Yu-Na, Mao, Miki, Joannie, and Carolina. I could see Yu-Na going for 4toe, Mao for 4loop, Miki for 4Salchow, Joannie for 4Salchow or 4toe, and Carolina for 4toe. I think Yu-Na and Joannie have the best technique in their jumps!

It's funny you mention Josee . . . I see the same amplitude she had in certain jumps that Joannie performs too, notably the 3Salchow and 3loop.

Midori Ito, Tonya Harding, and Nicole Bobek were also capable of tremendous amplitude in their jumps.

I know Midori stopped training the quad because she broke her ankle doing so or something to that extent, but had she not had the wrap I'm sure she could have done it. Don't really think anybody in the current crop could, other than Miki.

Ashley and Joannie for quad Sal. They have great height and fast rotation. I can't imagine anyone going for quad loop. It may sound crazy, but I believe Mao has better chance with quad flip than quad loop.
I can imagine Yu-na doing a slightly cheated 3flip-4toe:biggrin: because her toe-pick jumps are just awesome.

honestly I am surprised that either yu-na nor marai are trying quads or 3 axels.Their axels and other "easy jumps" look effortless and floaty so I think they could go for the quad.

I am surprised shizukia never tried the quad. She had very big, strong powerful jumps.

Mirai is reportedly working on 3A - there's a youtube link somewhere from last summer of a practice of some very cheated versions.

Rachel could land a 3A and 4S, both the 2A and 3S are easy jumps for her and have good air position and timing. She mentioned in an interview that she'd like to have the 3A in her programs next year.

Mao could possibly do a 4Lo. She worked it for a while, but it was never clean in the videos shown.

Miki could recover the 4S.

YuNa could do a 4T easily with the speed and flow her 3T as a second jump.

Joannie possibly, but she'd have to rotate a bit tighter on the Sal.

Ashley Wagner could probably get the 3A and possibly 4S - she has good height on the 2A and 3S.

Kostner would have to be the 4F. Her 3F is marvelous.

I recall reports of Joannie either landing or being very close to landing quad toes in practice at worlds in 2004. Not sure if she's worked on them since though.

Miki can do the 4S very cleanly, as seen in practice clips. She just hasn't been able to put it into competition. I've wondered about Yu-Na working on the quad toe instead of a triple axel, but I guess she figures it's not worth the risk of damaging her body further. Brian Orser said that they were working on the triple axel at one point and Yu-Na was fully rotating the jump, if not landing it perfectly. Joannie already has very good, tight rotation, but her height in her jumps would need to improve for a quad toe or sal.

I think Shizuka didn't try for a quad because she had big jumps but her rotation wasn't very fast - she was dinged repeatedly for underrotation during the 2005-06 GP series.

Carolina and the quad flip. I beleive that it has never been landed before in competition. Imagine a female skater landing a type of quad before a male skater. lol
All the ladies above have a chance for one.

any women is capable of landing a quad. the real thing is doing it correctly.
of course rachel is trying a 3a why because they didn't nail her on her wrong edge take off all year=only twice. means they callers don't really care if they take off wrong only on who you are. according ice network. they got mad about caroline publicity. see how they wrote up -she beat caroline zhang the much publiczed . so they had it in for caroline zhang all year--knocking her more than the others. iwhich means figure skating is an Obselote-racist-elitist sport. always will be.

nicole bobek

When I think of Nicole Bobek, I just shake my head, she had such talent but in my opinion it was wasted. Either she wanted to party too much or she needed Tara's spunk

Julia Sebestyen for 4Lz.

Julia has amazing height on her triple lutz, but her rotation isn't fast enough for a quad.

I'd love to see a couple of the ladies achieve the feat of a clean quad in the next two or three years. Perhaps Miki will try the 4S at Worlds.

For ladies the quad is _maybe_ a way to get your name out there (providing you don't injure yourself out of contention first).

But there's no real reason for established ladies to pursue it and lots of reasons relating to general health and sanity and overall skating technique to not pursue it.

Barring some kind of technical revolution in skating technology (which hasn't really changed in how many years?) I'd say the quad is a marginal jump for men (how many men over the last ten years have had both a consistent quad and remained injury free?) and essentially out of reach for ladies (except for the occasional fluke success).

Could you tell me if underrotated quad jumps of Suraya Bonaly were accepted by judges in those years when she was competing?

Could you tell me if underrotated quad jumps of Suraya Bonaly were accepted by judges in those years when she was competing?

IINM the general consensus is that at least one of Bonaly's non-ratified attempts was no more underrotated than the ratified attempt by Ando. Probably both should be regarded as ratified or non-ratified.

when i saw this trend the 1st person that popped up in my head was carolina with either a 4F or 4Lo, she can do that or do the 3-3-3 we've seen her practice
miki could put the 4S back into her programs
yuna would probably be able to pull a quad of any kind off with ease...except 4A...that's totally different though
joannie's jumps are all pretty secure so once she starts practing the quad she can most likely add it to her repetoire
if mao was to do a quad it could definately be cheated
