Good grief, that's not exactly inspiring praise, is it?
Nothing like being damned with faint praise. Or praised with faint damns!

When she sees the size of the thread she generated, albeit full of tangents

Cohen's site is more like a marketing vehicle for her, her goods, etc. I never liked that.

About personal vs commercial website, I don't have a preference one way or anther. There is nothing wrong witn athletes selling trinkets on their official websites. Athletes are free to do so, and their fans are more than willing to buy the trinkets. That indicates the athletes are being business savvy, I don't see that as giving back to their fans. It is a business and $$ is involved, not giving back. The athletes can peddle anything they want on their sites including making excuses of their poor placement in competitions, but I don't think their fans can claim that is just something written for them and no others business, if these athletes drag in other athletes in making their excuses. For example if athlete A places poorly in a competition and post on his / her official website, that athlete B who beat him / her was just lucky.
I enjoy visiting Tiger Woods official site from time to time, he sells stuff on his site, and he post journal entry from time to time, he never makes excuses or belittle his competitors achievement.
Back to Jenny, I will miss her a lot, I hope she keeps updating her site, I enjoy reading her journal since she was 14.

Not at all a general scathing statement, I am not saying all athletes do that. You say athletes who make "excuses of their poor placement in competitions". That's a rather general, scathing statement to make.
Can you back up your point by giving me an example of such behavior?
Same goes with e.g. if a skater said at the beginnig of the season that her programs are so superior than the others skaters too choreographed and too chiseled programs , and if a skater made such a statement, then that too would be trash talking. There is nothing for you to buy, it is not for sale. BTW, I said when athletes sell trinkets on their official websites, when money is involved it is a business. I did not say "in it for the money" I already gave the example of Tiger's website selling golf shirts etc. But if you find Tiger's official website a bit boring, Anna Kournikova's maybe more interesting to you, she has tons of stuff to sell there. It is business IMO when money is involved, and they have to pay tax on the profit.your other point......., in it for the $, because I'm having a hard time buying it for some reason.
Red Dog said:I'd say Divac's comment was made out of frustration. (Was this interview done immediately after the game?) I don't think he meant to belittle Horry's accomplishment, but I agree with you here. It DID come across that way IMO.
Still, I'm going to press you some more.
you asked for an example, I gave you an example, I have a feeling, even if I quote you 100 examples you will continue to view things your way, and I am not here to change your mind. IMO placement is appropriate to describe basketball games, I try not to use the word loser, therefore I said poor placement. In NBA, it is not just win or lose, there is placement involved. The total number of games won or lost led to a team's placement in the conference. A player's stat on block shots etc qualifies him or her for the placement of the number one defensive player etc So although technically your example works in one sense, it still doesn't justify the comment you made above.
show me a skater who thinks his/her programs are superior. A skater will almost never say such comment (in public),
BTW- "not buying it" is an expression for "I don't believe you." I didn't believe or agree with the points you were making, and wanted you to explain them further.

IIRC a skater did make that comment a couple of seasons ago, I do not remember who though. I don't think fans will chew up the skater for trash talk, I think that skater's fan will defend him or her, and attack anyone who dare to bring that up. Why are you so surprise that ice skaters trash talk?? Are you putting
your favorite skater on a a pedestal?? Do you think your favorite skater can do no wrong??Have you heard of Harding??
BTW, I know what "not buying it" means, when I said it is not for sale I mean I really don't care whether your believe, or not, agree or disagree.
