I was referring to his alleged training of Evgenia Medvedeva. It's already such a 'drama' without anything being confirmed. I have no idea what Eteri's deal is with that interview, and I don't care.

You made it sound like Brian Orser needs Zhenya because Hanyu is not skating for long, when in fact it is Zhenya that needs his help. Brian Orser has never taken a new student who is already a world champion. He does not needs her at all but he is willing to help her. Which is great.

It certainly has the potential to become a major distraction and energy drain for him--an energy drain that could negatively impact his other students.

If Med and Orser somehow made a deal, it’s between them. Orser surely has standards on his own and if Med fulfills that then fine.

I feel totally disappointed in this woman. Like everyone, I thought it was something spartan, but I respected it because Zhenya only had praise for her, Zhenya always defended her and spoke well about her coach, and that was the only reason why I did not "worry" about possible abuse . I also believed her little story that Yulia's mother was the one responsible for their separation.NOW,I DON'T BELIEVE ANYTHING THAT THIS WOMAN SAYS. Everything she says is contradictory, and this has already happened many times. Polina Shelepen, Yulia, Aidan, Voronov, Sima and now Zhenya Polina T. She should simply assume that she is not interested in training seniors, and stop doing these girlish tantrums when seniors look for better alternatives.
Eteri's comments make no sense if we look at Evgenia's behavior. In the interview with Yagudìn, she is pressured to say that the rivalry affects her, and you can see Zhenya's gaze, her movements, her voice: she sincerely said, that if you lost, it's because you yourself did something wrong. Evgenia blamed herself and nobody else.

And you couldn't possibly have handled it with more class than Adian, goodbye with flowers, never a bad word said, no blame for being made to skate with an inury and shouted at for not fighting hard enough, with that turning out to be the final nail in the coffin of his career. He always took responsibility himself. Did it save him from Eteri tearing into him? No. That was just so uncalled for. I will never believe "poor Eteri is just fairly responding to her students' mean behaviour" after this.

I guess after this drama Zhenya can be out of Top5 at Rus Nationals. Rus Fed will choose someone else than (despite how she'll skate or Zheny can make mistakes )

Well, if Zhenya does not make obvious mistakes, it is unlikely that they will put her out of the top 5. She is, after all, the most popular female skater in Russia and the main crowd-drawer of the game. However, her GOE and PCS might suffer slightly, and she may get the edge call too.

The difference is that Medvedeva isn’t on national tv saying bad things about Eteri. We shall see tomorrow what she chooses to do. I hope she takes the high road and doesn’t say a bad word about Eteri

I'm uncertain if it makes sense for Evgenia to take the high road at this point if that means letting Eteri's charges go unanswered (as seen in this forum, at least some people believe them). Also, liking that tweet is definitely a none-too-subtle jab, so I wouldn't be surprised if she's planning to fight fire with fire.

She's literally killing her chances for the 2022 medal. Still no idea about the reason. In her interviews after Olympics she was asked about that and answered with a great deal of confidence that she's going to stay. What could have happened?

The Russian ladies field is packed with youngsters doing quads. Medvedeva and Zatigova could be has beens in a few years.

I don't 100% believe Eteri's words.
But IF Evgenia really said that about Alina, whether she said it privately or not, I don't think you can make any valid excuses for it.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Zhenya did say it.
I actually also wouldn't be surprised at all if this entire mess is the fault of both parties (the parting of ways bit) because it usually does take two and Olympics are a highly stressful situation, and losing the Olympics probably even more so in a way so who knows what was said and done.

But Eteri shouldn't have gone on tv like that, and gone into details of private student/coach conversations on actual television. It's just poor form. I can only hope Zhenya doesn't retaliate officially either, and this whole thing settles down for the sake of everyone, including the remaining girls.

I agree. It cannot be an accident or luck that Eteri coached so many successful students. Some of them may be considered short-lived, but without Eteri, they may have never "lived." I just wish Evgenia had communicated with her before announcing her change of coach, especially that most people observed that even when Alina won, Evgenia was still Eteri's fav.

Eteri, Sergei, Daniil, Sergey Rozanov, etc., the whole team, they work together. TOGETHER.

Let's look at Alina. She came to Eteri at age 12 with what? a triple salchow, double axel, triple loop? Two years later, she's got the most technically demanding junior program we'd ever seen at that point. That isn't all Daniil's accomplishment. A lot of it is, but a lot of it is also Dudakov's, Tutberidze's, etc. They're all working together to give each student what they believe is the best.

Look, I don't agree with how Eteri's acting now, and I think it's petty and immature. But that doesn't mean that she hasn't done anything as a coach or that it's okay to diminish what she has done. She built Evgenia from the ground up and made her as good as she was, long before she had a team like Duadkov and Gleikenghauz working alongside her. She took Yulia through Sochi, and yes, what happened afterward, but she gave Yulia experiences and success she never would've had in Ekaterinburg. She took Polina to the top and it's not her fault that Polina keeps getting injured -- she seems to have something that makes her more prone to injuries? as far as I know. She took Alina in and made her a star, with the help of her team. She made Tarakanova more consistent, brought Kostornaya back after everyone thought she was done, gave Trusova better tech skills, made Akatieva possibly the best skater of her age that we've ever seen, brought success and quads to Shcherbakova even after those horrible injuries, coached Panenkova to good scores and incredible jumps, and the list goes on and on. Yes, she's flawed, and yes, she's done some very questionable stuff, but that doesn't take away from the good.

Some people here must be saints or never participated in pressure cooker environment, the way they put on a holier-than-thou attitude and expect these athletes in a so and so way.

If I gave up my entire childhood and slaved away on a diet for a friggin' Olympic gold medal and saw my teammate snatch it away from me in the last second, making one remark would be the last thing I'd do. I would go snatch both Eteri and Zagitova's weaves off.

Preach. Even if Zhenya has said that at some point, who cares? She wanted to win, it’s not like she pulled a Tanya Harding, she just asked her coach about possibly extending a teammates junior career so that she would receive more attention and less competition during an Olympic season. And this didn’t happen, so who cares if she made the request?

The pain in Zhenya’s face at the kiss and cry was heartbreaking. But she did EVERYTHING RIGHT and Eteri put the blame back on her. She starved herself, avoided social media for 6 months, pushed her body and mind to the limit all with the promise that this is what it takes to be a gold medalist. And then the student who hadn’t been the main focus, who possibly wasn’t held to the same rigorous standards of self denial, wins by a few points. Of course she’s done with Eteri. She can’t trust her anymore. It’s like an abusive relationship, where she keeps being told it’s entirely her fault, she didn’t work hard enough. Now she may have had less athletic talent, but there is no way she did t give her maximum effort and it’s insulting for Eteri to insinuate this.

Med is a legal adult but also still a teenager. Her life experience isn’t as what it is compared to Eteri. But we have seen Eteri went off on national tivi and gave bad talk about her former students several times. What makes you think she won’t do that next time to her next students?

On the other hand I am not sure Russian fed will look at Eteri with a warmer eyes now that there has been a tendency for students who turn adults deciding on leaving Eteri. That group is like a kindergarten right now with the oldest just turned 16.

Erokhov is gonna be 19 and Moris is an adult for very long time. Girls are girls and usually competing more agains each other and in such a tough sport they just can't handle it. Same about Radionova, Tuktamysheva, Sotskova and regressing bit by bit

Ah yes. She has an equal standing as an 18 year old figureskater to that of a 44 year old coach. Honey, you must not be older than 18 yourself if you think 18 year olds are suddenly old, wise and mature at that age. But if you are older well huh.

I wonder what will happen when that little Russian girl in your profile picture eventually leaves Eteri. Who's side would you be on?
