Medvedeva leaving Eteri

The thing is- as long as her teenage ladies bring great medals... I wouldn't say nobody cares but very few would question the methods. But... if the new ISU changes would give preference to ladies over 17- who knows how the podium landscape changes. I just hate, I really do hate when girls have to retire being 18-ish. It is not normal.

I hope the new proposals about quality finish her.

Hey, maybe that's another reason Med's switching.

What!!! I'm so surprised, for some reason I though for sure it would be Alina who left Eteri. But I guess it makes sense, Eteri's specialty are younger/junior girls and Evgenia is already an experienced skater, if she wants to become even better and more polished I think leaving Eteri's is the first move. I guess she just outgrew Eteri's approach. It happens. Also she has her hands full with many other up and coming senior+junior ladies, makes sense Evgenia would want to move on to bigger things. What a brave (and smart) decision!

Hope it works out with Orser:) He's my favorite of the coaches so I'm super excited to see what she'll have to show next season!! Good luck Med!

...because of believing in her ( as a skater/potential). I don't. Wish to be wrong. I am more than sure, Orser will prove me to be wrong .

Even if Evgenia doesn't improve, it's not going to be Orser's fault. I'm honestly also a bit confused why he would take her on, because I remember an interview where he said he usually takes on pupils who are not quite there yet. Here comes a skater that has been unbeaten for two seasons, is a two time World Champion, a Olympic Silver medallist. Can Evgenia get better, technically? Or is this a mission doomed to fail? Her PCS is so high, it's hardly possible to improve that, no matter the coach. So I just see a downward trend, no matter what she does, if she stays or goes. But for Orser, that doesn't matter. He gets his money and it won't be his fault if she regresses. For him it's win/win.

Well i guess that she didn't want to leave a threat to go train with another threat everyday. And maybe it will be hard for Orser though he had Yuzu and Javier.
Remind me when Orser said that he will never train Mao. Even if the situation was different.

Right at this moment and based on the past season results Alina is everybody's main threat, not Evghenia. Wakaba is young, strong, energetic and very very gifted young lady. She should get this chance to train abroad and master 3A with a great technique. I don't know what Evghenia's prospects are given her injury and other possible issues, I have no idea. But I think that both ladies can win from this friendly rivalry in TCC, Zhenya is a superstar, Wakaba is currently a promising talent, no reason to hide one from another. They will have to face each other at the competition anyways.
I don't remember Mao's situation to be honest and it was ages ago, many things have changed since then.

He obviously sees something in this. He isn't doing charity work. Not to mention that yes, it'll fall on him too if she regresses. He is her coach so it is not a win/win, not even remotely.

He's getting a major champion but he is also getting a major risk. His current ladies are so so and ever since Yuna, he hasn't had a major name. Next season is potentially still all right but the season after that and new names coming up, with Fed pushing them, not Zhenya is something he knows is waiting for him. So he has to up her TES, and with Tracy refine the rest of her skating. The programs themselves are more or less in the hands of the best, so that is a non-issue for him but he cannot have a champion drop off the radar so badly that she doesn't even qualify for the 3 spots for big comps come 2019/2020.

Orser is getting a major challenge in Zhenya, they are both risking it. They both apparently think it's worth it but it is still going to test them all, the club and her.

Good for Evgenia for leaving the skating factory. There are too many younger skaters that they are promoting, never mind Alina. If Evgenia is the real deal--and I think she is-- she will do well with a new coaching situation where she has the coach's full attention. That can't possibly be the case with Eteri's group and the direction they are going in seems to be developing younger skaters with harder jumps.

I wonder if Rusfed will still politicking for her as hard, especially if Zagitova and another Russian do well.

Evgenia’s PCS comes from politicking and consistency, not from her actual skating.
Her GOEs are nonsense for most of her jumps. Her technique is pretty flawed - she muscles her combos, she has a flutz, she pre-rotates a lot and her Toe pick is always at least suspicious, and she even under rotates sometimes, plus her 2A is some of the worst. I’m not bashing her, just listing everything that she could improve with Orser because Eteri clearly doesn’t mind poor jumping technique.
With that said, I understand why some people are thinking “oh, how nice of Orser to accept Medvedeva..” Because although she is a huge champion she virtually has a long way to go, technically and artistically.
Of course she has the potential and with someone like Orser, in a completely different environment, different people around her, helping her, she can definitely improve a lot, she’s a hard worker.
I wish her all the best! If this is really happening, I can’t believe my dream of seeing her skating a program from another choreographer will come true!!! Please let it be Shae!!! Or even David Wilson or Buttle!!!! [emoji120]

This is interesting and unexpected, as I don't often see the Russian ladies skaters leave to train outside Russia, apart from short clinics. Also Eteri and Evgenia seemed so close and she was definitely a favorite of Eteri.

But I actually am excited to hear this. Maybe we will finally see Evgenia become a complete skater, reaching a Yuna level, and we will get to see her try different things and show more range. I think this could end up creating more fans for her and really cementing a place for her in figure skating history.

Also, I now see her wanting to continue on for another 4 years and get an Olympic gold is no joke, she is smart seeing if she wants to have that chance that she needs to do something different. She know her teammates will surpass her if she just stays with Eteri doing the same old thing.

Another thing that occurred to me is Evgenia is a young adult now, she's probably among the oldest of her training mates and Eteri's methods have yet to prove successful for older skaters. She spent a lot of the past season injured, perhaps she knows if she wants to have longevity (which seems rare among the Russian ladies) she needs to go to people who know how to train adults and have had success coaching adults.

On the flip side though..... Evgenia's score are already so inflated due to politicking, reputation, and consistency. They don't completely reflect what is truth. Her jump technique on certain jumps could certainly be improved, her skating skills and speed could be improved as well. But her scores are already sky high, so I don't think there's anywhere higher to go with her current layout. Now perhaps she wants to fix the lutz technique and start using it in the short program and twice in the long program. I also think she is capable of a 3-3 combo with loop as the second jump. I think no one was really pushing Evgenia to do programs that were more difficult prior to Alina.

Orser truly is selfless taking her. All my respect to him as a coach.

I'm sure he's thrilled to have her--she is the best/most successful skater of the past three years. I'm sure any coach would bend over backwards to have a 2X WC and Olympic silver medalist, who has only lost the gold medal 3 times in that past three years.

Come on, no way she stays at a rink when she's just split with the coach at that rink. I don't care what they say. Use logic.

Skaters can be offered resources regardless of their coaching situation? What an aggressive reply lol

But anyway, this is such an important change for her. I hope she finds a good situation.
