Are you sure? I'd say that this situation really is more beneficial to Alina than it used to be. And Alina has a lot to thank Eteri for.
 
I fear this may start a fan wars between Alina fans and Zhenya fans. Look at our fanfest already [emoji31][emoji31]

As questionable as Eteri's claim that Zhenya said it is in the first place, even she only goes as far as claiming it was something Zhenya blurted out to her while crying after she lost. Not to Alina or anyone else. As we've all seen, she went and congratulated her and stressed how hard Alina worked in multiple interviews later on. So what should she apologize for?

And sometimes not so private. In Helsinki I heard family members of competitors discussing results, relieved for the mistakes of others that affected the results. I don't hold it against them. We're all guilty of it. I just hope Alina doesn't let it bother her. And if so, well, at least she won't have to see her everyday anymore...

What are you talking about, that video was Eteri speaking badly of I do not know who, Evgenia's mother has nothing to do there.It was a periscope of Diana and Eteri angry throwing rudeness.
 
I just page caught and I am dumbfounded by some of the comments. I think some people expect far too much from very young people. Athletes have to be very competitive and focused in order to be successful; every skater's dream is to win at the Olympics. E.M.'s regularly solid performances probably raised her personal expectations even higher. She heeded Eteri's instructions carefully for years (some which seem to border on the inane), she got injured, she came back before she was totally healed, and then she lost to this newcomer girl who her coach also helped.

She said a sentence or two out of frustration, like anyone would, and then she seems to have moved on. (I find it pretty ridiculous that we're analyzing two teenagers shopping with one another.) When I was 16 and I lost at a competition that I pinned all my hopes on, I was heartbroken and probably said a few less than nice things about other competitors. It's part of life.

For a middle aged coach to betray her student's confidence like that because she is leaving her is petty and pathetic and underlies why skaters are leaving her. There is nothing gained from spilling that information, and E.M. hasn't even spoken publicly about the move. She hasn't said anything unduly negative in return. At best, she didn't take some calls. A reasonable adult is privately bitter, just like E.M. herself was, and then moves on. I wouldn't consider myself an E.M. fan but I don't think she deserves any blame in this situation.

Politics is important to an athletes success unfortunately and seems that Eteri has the political influence at the moment. Although I imagine rusfed is not happy with her current outburst.

By the way, this... thing about Eteri and her powerful connections. Actually, I don't think this really is the case. her skaters always score low domestically unless they are actually being pushed as top international skaters and her status is much lower than that of CSKA for instance. There are far more powerful entities than Eteri. And something like CSKA really doesn't give half a care about what Eteri thinks, guaranteed.

could a russian tell us the truth about this. i remember this video...but it was not evgenia´s mother.
also this is a old video.

Would be really fun to have both Zagitova and Medvedeva at Cup of Russia.

And Eteri had to air it on national TV because she had now suddenly realised how inappropriate it was and felt so bad for Alina she had to drag her in the middle of this? Or she couldn't care less until she had to get back at Evgenia?

Polina has health issues. Her genetic illness + her injuries since 2016 Junior worlds have basically killed her chances to make a big entrance in senior ranks. She could have been a threat for Medvedeva too since she was winning everything and beating all records before her injuries.
I don't see why Eteri would want to make her life difficult since she was already a skater who was regressing and was not winning titles.

Polina's problem was Konig's disease. The primary mechanism of it is physical trauma. There are some studies about genetic factors but Polina's mother denied it played role in her daughter's case

I became an ice skating fan after watching Alina. I was prepared to hate Zhenya on principle but after learning more and watching her I have the utmost respect, appreciation, and admiration for her. I don’t think it’s going to be Alina vs. Zhenya in the fandom, there is possibility to like both. Honestly this really doesn’t reflect on Alina/Zhenya as much as it does on Eteri. And now there is more room for both of them to shine in their own way.
