he is second.
This is not good. I really hope JC Simond sorts Joubert out before these mistakes get out of hand. I would hate to see a repeat of the way he looked between 05 Worlds and 06 Olys.

I believe the 3S may be upgraded in the future to a quad, and at least one of the 2As was planned as a triple. So there is potential. Did he miss a jump pass? I counted seven in the summary, that would explain why the tech was so much lower than Kozuka's.

Oh, no, Patrick. Other than the two mistakes, he skated better than at SC. Kozuka wins this.

fumie_fumie, thanks for being an angel and providing play by play.

YAY, TAKA!!! :bow::love:

Chan

- 3a flying.
- 3f-3t
- 3lutz, gorgeous.
- combination spins.
- circular steps to buttle moments
- 3a step out and no combo, congrats kozuka
- 3flip or lutz another step out.
- 3loop, like butter
- lots of inbetween elements
- 3lutz 2t-2loop
- 2a
- straight footwork steps showcasing his edge quality. there is more meat in chan's program than in kozuka.
- combo spins
- except for a few minor mistakes, this is much better than at SC.
- somebody holding banner saying, "I miss you Stephane"

marks: 156.70.I'm shocked.

Awww, me too! I miss him SO MUCH!!!:love::love:

What does this mean to Joubert? Will he miss out GPF?

He must win Cup of Russia next week, or probably yes. Even then he won't be mathematically locked, though with Chan taking two golds and Oda taking another medal at NHK(is Takahashi competing there? What's the latest news?) he'll probably be in anyway.

Thanks for all the reports! Man, I thought this was going to be the year of the quads for the men.

I can think of several skaters who might benefit from dropping the quad, if the more all-around programs continue to get rewarded. Should Johnny try 2 triple axels, for example, and nix his quad attempts??

I don't know, though, this season seems weird. Are some of these skaters really that much better than the others, that are getting these high, high scores? Thinking of the ladies as well as the gentlemen.

It really seems like a direct message from the judges that, at least for the men, there's a "changing of the guard" a la 6.0 maybe ????

Congrats to the winners. I am glad Chan won. I thought Koziuka was overmarked and that is all I will say on the subject.

WOW, I predicted Brian Joubert to be in 3rd place, but never considered he wouldn't make the podium at all. Definitely a surprise!

Many congratulations to Patrick Chan, Takahiko Kozuka, and Alban Preaubert! Patrick and Taka could have probably gone either way, but as long as they finished 1 and 2, I'm pleased.:bow:

This is Joubert's first time off the podium since 2006 Olympics, and I'm very concerned about the effect it might have on his confidence for the rest of the season and (even worse) for the Olympic season next year. He's now in his 8th year as a senior and I'd love to see him leave figure skating on a high note, not after another Torino-like disaster. Good for Alban for skating well, though.

I really don't get what the judges see in Patrick Chan - he's not doing the hardest technical stuff, he often makes mistakes, and yet his tech scores are very high. How on earth did a guy with no quad, no 3A in combo and two mistakes on the jump landings get the kind of score he did? I can understand how PCS scores might be weird but tech should be fairly straightforward.
