Nordic skating (FIN, SWE, NOR, DEN, ISL)

Ah, I forgot that Tilda was switching countries and hence was still under embargo. :bang: My mistake. :slink:

But, thank you for reminding me, and also for providing the date when they will be eligible. I hope that they get out competing as soon as possible afterwards, and get a good number of competitions under their belts before Nationals so that they are not on the back foot.

They can take part in nationals. I am not sure if they must go through qualifications. Milania and Filippo took part in nats last season but they also did qualifications. This firs qualifications has no pairs. I am not sure if part two has. M/F can take part without qualifications, because they have won last season and local feds rules are that all last years medalists get the spot automatically, if they take part in same discipline. Valtter too can take part in men, as he won last year.

There's only one international competition with pairs after November 19th and before Nationals (apart from the GPF) - CS Golden Spin of Zagreb. It's also the last competition that counts for Euros & 4CC mins for pairs. There just really aren't very many competitions for pairs, particularly after the first 1/3 of the season. :(

Mmmm. That's unfortunate. As a new partnership (and, in Valtter's case, as a skater that is new to Pairs), they really need to get out there in competitions to properly get a feeling of where they are at compared to other partnerships, both on the domestic circuit and on the international circuit.

This is the problem with events not running Pairs competitions. It leaves new partnerships, and in particular those that have skaters in this position, seriously on the back foot.

But there's a chance that they'll do at least one domestic competition in November, like Väänänen/Clerici last season.

I hope they do!

Since there are so few Senior Pairs partnerships in Finland, they probably won't need to actually qualify. BUT, as I said a few paragraphs ago, it would be benficial to get themselves out there anyway. Even if nobody else is entered, they would at least get feedback from the Judges and the Technical panel. And they will find out what they have to work on to get better scores.

Senior men update from qualifications. Makar Suntsev on his own class; a little mistake on combo landing but the rest was good. No 3a this time. Jari Krestyanikov went for 3a, not clean but hold on. Matias Lindfors had a lot of problems. Looked like he had grown since JGP and also looked he had pain in back. Scoring had not been national kind, IMO there have been international competitions where scoring has not been not so harsh.

Senior women. some picks in order of starting:

Emmi's combo's second jump was single, hand down on the loop and a mistake on the final spin. Scores 55.90.
Oona: A couple of landing mistakes but totally different Oona than a week ago. Spins were good and her speed was at another level now. It is clear she was ill already at Finlandia's SP. Scores 53.85.
Pihla Bergman, surprise of the day, 50.83, TES near Oona's and better than Emmi's. Underscored maybe a little bit if compared to Emmi and Oona.
Linnea Ceder: combo 3s-2t, fall in flip but she is coming back. Everything else but the fall was great and no Rs at all in other elements. She is annoucing herself to be one more competitor about the EC spots with a skate like that. 51.92. She hasn't been competing for a long time, so I think this was not bad return at all.
Nella: clean. 63.74 (TES 35.07). I hope she can do a skate like that in some international competition, as she is missing still TES worlds by 0.04 points. I have no favourite who should get the spots to EC and WC. Federation's rules are so clear that I just hope that the place of the skater with the best points is not caught by hundredths, whoever that skater is.

Viveca was sitting on the coach's seat with many skaters there.

A lot of R's in the score box during whole competition including men and juniors.

I will watch tomorrow women's last group and men.

Qualification competion 1 for nationals in Finland. FS update. Matias Lindfors Wd in men - he seemed to have teally much pain back so I am not surprised. One 3a< from Jari Krestyanikov. Makar had some mistakes in jumps, but easy win and quite good PCS, maybe a little bit national addition.

In women everybody made big mistakes, doubled more than one jump. Emmi has learned to jump lutzes. She won by 0.43 point. Emmi's and Nella's TES was close to each other, but Emmi had better PCS.

This competition's scores are counted to two best ones. When local fed updates their list, I will inform here who is in the lead. I think Nella is at place 1 after today, but no idea who is at second place now.

I actually checked some scores last week after Finlandia because I was curious, so I already had half the numbers and put in the new ones. From my understanding if it´s just about calculating the two best scores, Nella has a solid lead now, and Emmi some points behind. Janna is in third, but Janna also have two GPs so she has the chance to move past Emmi. Nella and Oona will also have a new chance at GP Espoo. I have not seen Emmi listed for more competitions yet, but it would be wise for her to do one more competition in case Janna will get better scores. I havn´t checked very closely but I think this is all the senior ladies who have two valid results, let me know if I forgot someone. I also added Linnea and Minja on the list in case they are doing more competitions. And then of course it´s Nationals, the selection is done after right?

With the news that Valtter has split with his partner it throws a new light over the mens selection. I thought Makar would get the Euros spot, but Valtter will surely do Nationals as well as the competition he is entered for, don´t you think?

Milla and Nikolaj was not only able to get Euros min this weekend (they just barely missed the FD mins in Oberstdorf), but they managed to get the Worlds mins both for the RD and FD. This was only their second competition. They scored 154 points in total, beating their score of 141 from Nebelhorn Trophy with a lot. They also placed 8th overall, which means they just got their first ranking points 👏👏

Sweden hasn´t had a ID team at Worlds since 1982 from my understanding.

Now, we must not forget that Sweden has another team, Emma Kivioja / Erik Pellnor who hasn´t competed yet. I think though Reitan/Majorov has blown everybodys expectations as a new team, and it´s hard to imagine that Emma and Erik can beat them. They will compete for the first time next week at Mezzaluna Cup in Italy, and also the Danish ID team Incardona / Musil is competing. I believe this is international debut for both teams. It would be really nice if both of them would get Euro mins next week (Sweden could use a sub.), it would be really fun having more Nordic teams at Euros!

It´s really a shame the Norwegian team had to retire because of Marias health, or we would really have a strong Nordic representation at Euros this season. Well it´s nice to see ID growing in Nordic countries either way. Btw, Orihara / Pirhinen will also compete at Mezzaluna Cup next week!

For Ec The other score cam be nationals, qualification for nationals or any international ISU competition, but the other must be CS or GP. They must also take part in nationals if there is no acceptable reason like illness or injury. For worlds EC, of course, is counted but also other international competitions can replace CS or Gp. I don't know why the other scores must be GP or Cs. In juniors any international competition will be count, only the other one must be junior competition and other can be senior competition but -5 is decreased from seniors' competition. Here is the list. Edit: It was already updated, but whoever has done it has forgotten Emmi took part in Autumn classic and has forgotten to list Emmi - or has forgot Autumn classic is CS competition. So Emmi is missing from the list, she should be there before Janna and Olivia. Usually it will be updated on Thuesdays or Wednesdays if there has been competitions where Finns take part in. Easy to guess but anyway: Kilpailu = competition, MM means worlds and EM means Euros. The other parts are in English. The seniors worlds list probably will appear there after Euros, so far nobody else than dancers, Milania/Filippo and in singles Janna and Olivia have all the minimums for WC. Makar and Oona need FS and Nella needs SP, others need both. You can find that list here.

So Valtter can also be added back to GP substitute list as well. Makar is having a good season so far and he has more difficult lay-out than Valtter, so it is not easy to pass him, needs clean skates from Valtter. Maybe in pairs just did not work or maybe they gave up after seeing how much Milania/Filippo have developed and it is not easy to get EC or WC spots any more, and they would also need minimums in a short time. Valtter and other medalists from last season do not need qualifications, only if juniors turn to seniors or skaters change discipline, medalists must go through qualifications. Many skaters who already has secured their spot at national's final still take part in qualifications, skaters like it, it will be counted to two best scores and they can test their programs in front of national judge panel. I don't remember who has said it, but somebody said that many skaters persuade qualifications almost as much as nationals. I think it was some of our TV-commentators. And damn how good it was broadcasted. There was probably only one camera and sometimes the camera person lost the focus, but was very quick to take it back. And quality of the screen was good. I could not watch all time, watched a little bit of juniors too but whole day would have been too much, but it worked all the time.

I don't have favourite to any big competition, clear rules make it easy to say let's the best skaters get the spots.

Emmi Peltonen doesn't yet have the SP tech minimum, that's why she isn't listed.

Thanks a lot for the clarification, if one of the scores for Euros selection has to be CS or GP that will change things a little. I removed the scores that are not valid. Minja will have valid scores once she competes at Nationals or another international competition, she needs one more score to be in the mix, Oona is going to GP Espoo and after that she will be in the mix. Since Linnea Ceder doesn´t have GP or any Challengers it doesn´t seem she can make the list. Anyways, those I mentioned will need so skate really well to beat Nella, Emmi and Janna for Euros spot.

Also, since Emmi doesn´t have GP or more Challengers she can only improve one of her scores, of course her first task will be to get the SP mins for Euros, I did not know she didn´t have it with a 160 in total. I thought she was safe and she was only missing Worlds mins, but I see she is just a bit short for Euros mins SP. I think she will compete this week internationally again, so there is a new chance then and officially to be included on the list. Since Emmi can´t improve her GP/Challenges score, she has to score above 185 in another competition to beat Nella, which will be difficult. And only if Nella doesn´t improve one of her scores. So Emmi will depend on getting mins and either to beat Nellas score to go to Euros, or she will depend on Janna not beating her best scores. But Janna has at least 3 more chances to improve her score, 2 GPs and Nationals.

So if Emmi is not able to score over 185, Nella will most likely have one of the Euro spots.

I guess for Worlds selections other international scores count for both best scores because there is no GP or Challengers after December.

Edit: My mistake, I saw the directlink now to the list and apparently I have missed that Olivia actually had two valid results so she is actually in the mix now. If Emmi will not be able to get the SP mins Olivia could possible be listed as sub, depending on how Minja and Oona will do.

There is still Warsaw cup. Local fed had not announced yet who will go there. Or is it and Zagreb too late? For JWC it will be between Matias L. and Arttu in men. In junior women it is hard to believe anybody could beat Iida K (another Iida, Mäki, is also now competiting in Nice). But there are already many who have the minimums. But you never know what can happen when kids grow.

Oh right, I totally forgot there is still 2 Challengers left where the entries are not announced yet :palmf:

Appointments of Finnish skaters for the international competitions of this autumn have already been announced here:

https://www.stll.fi/luistelijalle/k...at-2/yl-jt-pl-isun-kilpailupaikat-syksy-2023/

Emmi has confirmed in her IG that she will compete this weekend in Nice. She is also listed for CS Warsaw Cup. Nella still has GP Espoo and CS Golden Spin and Janna GP France and GP Espoo.

Oona will compete in Volvo cup in Riga, GP Espoo and Tallinn Trophy, Linnea in Switzerland, Warsaw Cup and Tallinn, Minja also in Switzerland and Tallinn and Olivia in Switzerland and Warsaw cup.

Thank you. I have been looking only for "kilpailukalenteri" and did not notice this list.

All the others Finnish women mentioned above have secured they spot at national's final expect Olivia who was 4th in women in nationals and did not take part to qualification1. Anybody who wants can take part to qualification 2, also the skaters who already have the spot. In men Arttu of the national team members does not have a nationals final spot yet. I suppose he will take part in seniors at national level. He just needs to appear to qualifications and skate the programs through as usually all men qualify because there is so few of them. So nats can also affect to two best scores counted together.

I really hope Makar gets the minimum tech before worlds 2024. About 4 points short at Finlandia Trophy. Where is he competing next? He can also get it at Euros if he gets the spot.

Exciting to see how Valtter skates at Denis Ten Memorial. You think EC and WC are what drives him to keep on skating? For sure he seems passionate about skating/competing. Sadly he doesn't have much oppurtunities for show-skating.

I also wish I knew what Tilda's goals as a pair skater are. Good luck to her finding a new partner!

Valtter has confirmed his incomes. He is already working as a doctor and he and Alina, his wife are coaching together. I think he just would like to make it to worlds one more time. But it is not easy.

Makar is scheduled to compete at Tirnavia Cup next in October and GP Espoo this year.
