Patrick Chan

It works for me with a VPN. I'd love to share it with everyone here, but each time I tried to download the video from YouTube while the VPN was turned on, there was no sound (the sound being the whole point of it ). Sigh. :ohwell: I'm sorry a lot of you can't watch it - it's amazing. :(

NEWS FLASH: I THINK THIS ACTUALLY HAS SOUND! Don't ask me how this happened, but please enjoy! :)

It works!! [emoji7]Thank you so much!

Javi is artistic in his own way which is part of his success. I appreciate different styles but Patrick's is sublime and supreme, a different league from all others.

:agree:

VB you are so right... i apologize for being too in love with Patrick these days... blackbird shocked me... and i was already a deep believer... for me, Patrick reached the ultimate level with blackbird and i never expected that program to do it to me... like nobody every expected Mack the Knife to get there ( and i don't think it quite did, right?)

so i have been blinded with Patrick love since worlds... and i don't want to be cured... in the meantime, i will try to remember that i love skating, not just patrick ;)

OMG that was beyond cute!!!!

thanks a lot skatingfan4ever for summarizing this piece!:thank::ghug:

lately, when I thought about Patrick's skating, I feel like he with few other skaters re-defined for me a term of 'perfect performance' in figure skating. With him, it's never about the cleanest skate which leads to this 'perfection' of performance, what's unique is that he somehow surpassed that border of 'clean' being considered as 'best'. This 'perfect performance' means that Patrick's ones gives me food for thought for long time after he finishes his skate on ice, his skate 'lingers' on my mind, resonating deeply on different levels.

There's indeed something to be said about Patrick's words on skating his best while shut down, reduced to his breathing, blood flowing inside, focusing on blades, music, blending all those 'outside' elements into his own world created, because it is a part of that 'perfection' in his performance. He actually CREATES a moment of uniqueness, fueled by him, his personal feelings, how he feels during skating, how he incorporates things from 'outside' to this own bubble and he's even not aware how impactful, powerful is the effect put on the ice, visible to the audience. And this 'powerfulness' of his skating/performance impact is not forceful, 'in-your-face' kind of one for me - it's more about quiet sum of little things, gestures, looks building into unity, about focus and thoughtfulness of Patrick giving himself all into performance to move people, maybe not straight away, but for a long time, like in my case.

And lately, I came to thought that Patrick's skating reminds me/resonates within me similarly to Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron's way of skating/performing (French Ice Dancers, 2-time World Champions, recent silver medalists) - it is not about feeling itself, with full force, but it is about SENSING, scratching the surface somewhere inside me with this 'artistic aesthetic', a desire for beauty, to create it using your body and space created by it. It's all about some impressions, different things moving me about his skating in different times. It's kind of 'transcendent experiencing' regarding understanding Patrick's skating for me, never just 'watch and finish' kind of thing.

thank you NNF :)

for me the difference between Patrick and the others is that the beauty in the program and the skating is felt rather than being fabricated. I don't want to belittle the French dancers who I like quite a lot. However, I feel that their approach is more plastic. A bit more in your face indeed, simply because they are two on the ice and need to work that into choreography... so I see moment of great beauty in their programs but they are prepared and almost predictable. When I watch Patrick, even if I know the programs by heart, there is beauty every second of the way. It's an artistic refinement that no other skater in my opinion can match and it leads to an experience of long lasting emotional reception. What you describe as is a very perfect way to word this. A true performance is one that one will remember forever. I am still shocked at TEB 2013 for instance... I still remember watching 4CC LP from last year... It was in the middle of the night... I had passed out while watching and woke up just in time for Patrick.... what a wake up call from the skating gods to allow me to witness this via online streaming as it happened !!!

I still remember what wine I was drinking LOL ;) I went to bed that night, face planted down on the pillow, legs and arms apart like a star facing down, and woke up the same way. ;)

Of course, everyone is different but I have never felt like this for any other skater which is what is so striking to me, and what makes me so connected to Patrick at an artistic level. It is only with Patrick that I forget that figure skating is indeed a sport.

The things that 4everchan and NoNameFace have described are the things that have drawn me as an artist on ice myself to Patrick, but most definitely to Jeremy Abbott's skating. They are both an extension of the ice, there is no one like them, and there never will be. Pure beauty and amazing deep edge quality all wrapped into one.

Okay I'm done multi -posting now

you didn't hear? i let them all go after blackbird at worlds... i could no longer pretend i love all of them equally :)

Patrick praises so many people :) true class act... unlike me ;)

for instance he also says Javi is very artistic ;)

srlsy? what a modest self-evaluation, if I recall correctly, You are musician (?) and sure You praised/praise many other musicians/composers or...not?!:)

about 'skaters on skaters'...Patrick, Jason Brown, Javier or Yuzuru are some of great examples/role models of acting like class athletes/artists they are, with already developed their own 'brand' of quality and style; they often stress out the importance of complex/complete performance as a source of inspiration, drawing audiences. It's also good to see many young skaters getting inspired by those 'class acts' and as a result developing their own style/signature, taking best from current best skaters and building on that their own thing, not copying it automatically.

And Jeremy Abbott mentioned there - another amazing artist on blades feeling skating with all his senses, 'creating' rather than just 'making'!

:agree:

I was waiting for the Jeremy reference, because if not, it's my job in life to add it!! ;) :p
