Patrick Chan

gosh... just fetched him again...

what's happening? Where is everyone?

VB?

Poor Patrick... left alone by his fans :taunt:

Haha! I'm here lurking and catching up. [emoji3]
I hope he can get in a good mental space to allow himself to perform both his beautiful jumps AND artistry.
It must be so hard, it's true that he has nothing to prove, but he is a 3-time WC and was on top for so long and that is difficult to let go. He says he wants to just enjoy skating, and I'm sure that is a huge part of it, but the competitor in him also wants to stand on that podium again.
Excited for Nats and Olys. ❤️

hi hi SGrand... so you think that his natural competitor instinct is messing with his new "zen" attitude... ? It's quite possible indeed.

I wondered if Patrick watched the NHK men's competition. The three winers on the podium are 28, 29, and 30. perhaps he doesn't think at the age of 26 is "old" anymore.

HAHA I never have any doubt in my mind that we are fortunate to have someone like you in this FF. Your great efforts are much appreciated.

well .. of course, my internal clock was already prepared to talk patrick this weekend LOL... and well since he is at home, instead of at NHK... i realised... well... ok.. let's enjoy the events anyways (and I have) and then of course, i will keep watching other events... but then i noticed that nationals are in TWO MONTHS!!!!

We found plenty of things to talk about this summer LOL... but now... do we wait two months? I know I can swoon for that long LOL... but what about you guys?

Maybe now that the "dust" has settled... we can share our thoughts about Patrick's W/D? Or Patrick's SCI? Or the new programs? I mean we mostly  a couple weeks ago lol

Hey there! So I'm a very competitive person lol (in sports and dance) and I'm trying to put myself in his position (as much as I can haha, I'm nowhere near Olympic level on anything [emoji6]).

He is one of the best figure skaters in the world (in my mind the best), was a phemon that everyone talked about when he was rising in the ranks, he brought back the quad and multiple quads in the LP and ruled skating even with little "bloops" here and there because of his incredible skating skills that nobody could match.

After his disappointment in Sochi (not that silver is all that bad haha.......not gonna lie, I bawled for him because of his devastation and how it all unfolded........TEB was so magical just a couple months before...), anyway he takes a break and then decides to come back and finds the landscape has changed so dramatically and he is shocked [emoji15]. So he says he just wants to skate for himself and be happy and focus on artistry and maybe that was the case, but to me, someone who has been at the very top of the game is going to have a hard time actually accepting this mentality when it comes to competition. It's just human nature and while I don't think he is the biggest "fighter" out there, I can see that he still wants to compete and win. His reaction last year at the end of his LP (slapping the ice and so ecstatic) at 4CC when he moved from 5th to 1st proved that to me. He lost himself in that program while staying focused and yet relaxed.
He is magic and untouchable when he is on and I want him to push himself, do the quads, don't hold back, just go for it and say a big old FU to the pressure of being perfect and clean.

Apologies for going on and on here, I hope I make sense hahaha!
❤️

Or you know we can tweet Patrick directly about inspirational stuff, like what Viv is doing
By the way, bless your new picture. I just love how Han Yan is such a fan of Patrick, makes me envious a bit as well that he's got that many pics with him already, but just a tad bit.

you totally make sense... and i agree.. the biggest disappointment for me wasn't the music choices, the performance at SCI nor the withdrawal of NHK... for me, it was when he announced that he wouldn't even bother attempting the quad sal... that he wanted to have clean programs... My attitude is : take all of your weapons to the war... perhaps some of them will set you back or perhaps you won't need them all.. but leaving some at home will instantly create doubt... Doubt = mental fragility. No need for that in competition.

i don't do twitter ;) and I doubt Patrick spends much time on social media... accordingly to his website, he has been at his physiotherapist for the past 4 years LOL... (i wonder if he ever used that feature... sort of spooky to reveal the location of the chiddy)

i love my new avatar too... I thought it would be nice to show that Patrick is loved by many... not just us fans, but also fellow skaters who admire what he is the only one being able to do out there. Plus it helps that I adore Han Yan too ;) probably because he learned how to skate while watching his idol.... thanks again to BBHILL for making it happen.

I felt a need to be away form figure skating and this forum for a little while to focus on some other matters. Patrick had not said anything new for me to go on. It felt like he was only staying to do his duty for the Team Gold and it must not feel good to likely be the lowest ranked Team member whereas he was carrying Canada for years. But I don't really know because he's been quiet. I have a feeling/wish that Patrick would have some inspiring epiphany between SC and the Nationals and amaze us yet again.

I hope Patrick knows how grateful I am for his return to show us the epitome and ideal of figure skating with some of the most mesmerizing and memorable performances ever. And that he knows he can do it again and how much it would be appreciated regardless of scores and placements. He is beyond the ISU scoring system.

indeed... i feel blessed and grateful for Chopin, Blackbird, Journey... and I can only hope to see the new programs in a clean performance to add them to the list...

I loved warhorse fancy pants Patrick the world champion.... that was the pinnacle of a male figure skater... but then after his comeback, Patrick opened up. He is now one of the few truly emotional and genuine athletes on the ice. His generosity is what makes his unique. I don't care about medals though I hope he wins all the ones he deserves.... but I care about his happiness and if his role this year, is to bring gold to the team event, I hope that he can be proud of that. It's a huge challenge, an immense responsibility and nobody better could take that on their shoulders.

GO PATRICK

Agree! It must be so difficult, but now he has to fight the hardest he has ever fought yet. Tis why I try to tweet him encouraging messages from myself and others.

Thanks for fetching! As I said before, I had a very important family event to attend this weekend, so I was just sitting down now to catch up on things.

As for what Patrick's up to tonight.... I don't know whether this story is credible:

Back in Vancouver again? No ID?

for what it's worth : BC liquor store is very strict... and everybody who looks below 25 gets IDed... even if legal drinking age is 19.... I got IDed there once and I was lke :are you kidding me? and the clerk just pointed at the sign, saying that everyone looking below 25 will get IDed... so i took out my ID... i was what??? 35??? I smiled and said thank you, you made my day... and she was like WOW... impressive... LOL...

i was wearing a hoodie and hadn't shaved... i looked like a hipsterish student I guess??? It was around UBC... so...

I don't think this twitter guy created that story....but i am truly wondering why Patrick is not in Detroit training with Marina .... (who sent Oleg to NHK)... like seriously.
