Patrick Chan

Update on Patrick's training and the coaches he's been working with in Vancouver and elsewhere. Among them is Ravi Walia, Kaetlyn Osmond's coach. I'm so glad he has rejuvenated his energy and drive heading into Nationals.

He was shooting the Air Canada promo for the Olympics with Tessa and Scott earlier today. See the second video in this Instagram post. https://instagram.com/p/Bc25dbxlVKk/

Awesome! I'm updating my December blog post and will add this to the mix!

And... I was right that he had moved to Vancouver. Marina seems like such an easy-going coach. Good luck to him no matter who goes with him to Pyeongchang!

So happy for him. After the SCI debacle was afraid he would just give up.

At least we will see the purity of his skating in competition a but more.

I have on ice tickets to see him in May next years stars.

"It's been a weird year, we've all had our ups and downs, our own challenges, we deal with them our own way," Chan said. "It makes for an exciting Olympics. Anything can happen, which is awesome.

As I said before, stay healthy and happy, Patrick.

So he's been doing exactly that, seeking that mental stimulus and fortitude where he can find them. He is taking a different approach, doing it his own way, to be with that sometimes illusive balance of peace and motivation. He is broadening his scope of mentors, hopefully gaining new insights and inspirations, mentally and technically.

So again, Patrick, be healthy and happy. You can't go to the Olympics in any other condition.

I am thrilled that Patrick is happy and rejuvenated and sounds ready to go for Nationals. :yay: However, I don't know what to make of there being no direct mention of the 4S. I am VERY curious about the 4S. Patrick does mention "moving his jumps around," but I'm not sure if that means the 4S is still out or back in. I HOPE the 4S is back at some point, but we'll see.

This report focuses on Patrick's state of mind and mental rejuvenation, not much about the technical content of his program except that Ravi has helped him reordered some of his jumps. For Patrick, the choreography of the jumps, so that he gets his breathing and rhythm just right, is everything as far as the technical success is concerned. Such rearrangement may help him reintroduce the 4S with confidence and good rate of success though we don't know. The way this weird and unfortunate season is going, my only wish is that Patrick stay healthy and happy on his way to the Olympics and be relaxed and confident when he skates there. Good things will happen then.

:yes::agree: Beautifully worded, as always.

Patrick training in BC was really his original plan. He's also expressed how much he likes BC at various times so it's likely where he feels good in, a place where he feels at home and most himself. I'm glad he has a place like that to rejuvenate himself. And no travel woes for the Nationals where he'll fulfill the wish of being a 10 time Canadian Champion. :2thumbs:

Canada is home and he's back. We wish him the best at the Nationals and the Olympics.

Note-worthy from other threads:

The article about Patrick has attracted very positive views and feedback. :agree: Very refreshing change from earlier in his career when everything about him was spun very negatively. Many have admitted lately that they have been converted into Patrick fans. :)

Javi revealed that, without his knowledge, his coaches had decided in advance for him not to compete in the GPF so he could rest and better prepare for the Olympics. Patrick did them one better and withdrew from his second GF and of course the GPF. :) Javi also expressed similar strategy as Patrick and the view that the young quadsters may fail to deliver or even hurt themselves though there is always the possibility of their success.

I appreciate Patrick staying above the fray and doing his thing his way this chaotic and injury filled season. Two and a half more months of more drama before the big one.

That's awesome! I'll have to go visit those other threads now. :)

In the meantime, enjoy this video of Patrick and the Canadian team singing Jingle Bell Rock badly.

Out of everyone, I thought Andrew and Kaitlyn had the best voices.

I keep re-watching Patrick's FS from 2016 4CC. It is out of this World!!! Can you please suggest me other older great performances from Patrick?
