Patrick Chan

and... well to hear all about Canadian skating, you can check the Edge, where there is a thread about it... or other places where the tour is discussed more thoroughly.

for starters Patrick is skating to POTO!
I had something else in mind for my 1000th GS post, but I can't not comment on this. I really hope we get a full fancam or two. POTO was the last thing I expected from Patrick for this tour, but oh my heavens, that looks AMAZING!!!!! :hap85: It looks more smooth and fluid than it did in 2011. This grown-up version has the exuberance plus all that he learned from Kathy and beyond. It's like there's more conviction behind the movement, which I didn't know was possible. Be still my heart, this is incredible!!!:love::love: The 2011 Patrick is before my eyes, only he seems 10 times better.

Plus, look at Patrick's twizzle and stop in rehearsals! :) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoNRWK0n-HW/?taken-by=oniceperspectives

Looks like the same costume he was wearing in 2011? Both the program and the costume are my favorites!

Love his POTO at TYCT.

His skating is pure and not spoiled with a surfeit of jumps.

I had tears watching it. Saw it at the GPG that year but this was amazing.
Cannot wait for Kitchener.

Full video of Phantasia at Abbotsford (thanks to Winnie!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBU3jdMvIDY

Pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this program today. After watching many POTO eight years in between, I can really appreciate his Phantasia. Step sequences are real highlights!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!:love::love: Patrick goes out of frame a few times, but I forgive the videographer as Patrick covers the ice with such speed. My favorite section was the "Music of the Night" section. Because he didn't need to cram in so many jumps, he took the time to HOLD SUCH BEAUTIFUL POSITIONS!!! I felt like he was feeling the music a lot more and expressing the music a lot more because he had the space to breathe. On a couple of the crescendos in the "Music of the Night" section, he did this hop+turn that is so gorgeous. He didn't do that in the LP (yes, I checked). The LP feels emptier compared to this, which is strange to say. The LP has more stuff in it, but there's not the same feeling behind the movement. I love his 2011 LP, but when I watched the LP again, I realized how many jumps there are and it feels more frantic than this. Duh, in a sense, because this is an Ex and that's an LP, but I also think Kathy and David really improved Patrick's attention to small details of movement. Patrick learned to hold the edges and positions and pause for effect, beginning with Jeff's Elegie. This program was a great trip down memory lane and yet it was like I was watching it for the first time because of the different details and emphases. BRAVO, PATRICK, AND THANK YOU!!!

And that video with comments from his fellow Canadian skaters is heartwarming too. Nothing new really, but always nice to hear.

And I just found this promo interview. He gives a long-winded explanation of why he wants to start a Skating Academy and makes no mention of working in real estate. ;) And then he jokes with the interviewer about pottery being an option. Patrick, I love how much you love life.

Here's Patrick skating while Eric plays the piano on the ice. The video title says the music is Journey, but it's not the part Patrick did his LP to. It is so beautiful how Patrick matches his movement to the music and how every note is acknowledged in some way. GORGEOUS!!!!! :2thumbs: The 3S was amazing. The twizzle after the combo spin was lovely, and right after that he stopped at the edge of the ice and did arm movements matching those notes. The program was so smooth in every way! :agree2:

Ooh....thanks for sharing. That was nice and I’ve missed me some Patrick :)

I know I shared a lot here last night, but I just watched the Patrick and Eric video again and noticed that when Patrick enters he touches Eric's shoulder before he starts skating, as if to say, "Hey, friend. Thanks for being here and you are as much a part of this program as me." In other words, Patrick first acknowledged Eric and then started skating. It was so sweet. And after the program, Eric lifts his hands off the keys with a gesture that says, "Oh my gosh, I can't believe that just happened" and stands up and acknowledges Patrick, and Patrick bows to him. Another great bonding moment for them.

I can't resist saying that Eric is living out 4everchan's dream. ;) :) Except that 4everchan would be playing Chopin. What other piano pieces would you love for Patrick to skate to, 4everchan?

I've missed Patrick too!!! You're welcome. :) I am so grateful for the people who share fancams like this so that those of us who can't attend can share some of the experience. I can't explain how I felt while watching that video for the first time. It was one of those moments when I thought, "This is why I love figure skating. This is what it's about." A piece of heaven right there.

my dream piano piece for Patrick to skate on is Ravel's piano concerto, slow movement.

and you are correct... Eric is living my dream ;) i'd love to play for Patrick and it doesn't help that though I love Eric so much :) as a musician, i just find his stuff very basic... and well, that's normal considering his life path and training. Let's say he is a better musician than I am a skater.

I love Ravel's piano music - wish it was used more in skating.

Watched POTO at Abbotsford, Kelowna, The GPF and worlds. The competitive skates did the job but the flow and purity unparalleled in the TYCT. I understand why he moved from Lori to David Wilson. David is about feeling the music...Lori was about using it to best add marks.

I went for the thank you canada show yesterday.

Patrick’s POTO was just stunning. I was taken back to first seeing it performed and it brought tears to my eyes. His movement in this version and in his skate to Storm was so organic ...his blade work divine.

By the time the next skaters came on deck my other faves VM I was outright sobbing. An embarrassment to my daughter.
