Rika Kihira

Shoot, I really hope it's not a serious injury. At least an injured finger isn't an injured leg and won't get in the way of skating too much... but I really want to see her at her best with all of her 3As in place.

Kihira: 3S, 2S, 3S, 3Lo, 3F(turn), 3F, 2A, 2A, 2A, 3F(hangs on)

She was apparently late and it was mostly light practice according to Jackie Wong. I can't say I'm not a little concerned if she's not jumping axels and lutzes. We'll have to wait for more news.

Rika isn't in the best of shape but she's skating. A bit low on confidence on the axel I think.

Kihira: 3Lz, 3Lz, 2A, 3Lz, 3Lz, 2A3T, 3Lz2T2Lo, runthru (2A, 2A3T, marked Lo, 3Lz3T(hand), 3F, 3Lz2T2Lo, 3S), 3Lo, 3Lo, 3F3T, 3Lz, 3F3T, 2A, 3A, 1A, 1A, 3A, 2A3T

Maybe she isn't trying the axel combination anymore :/
However it's good to see a better success rate on the 3Lz. Maybe that was the focus.

She may not be doing it just be for this competition. She doesn’t need it to win and if she is slightly injured she may have decided to play it safe. She can win with clean skates and one 3A. But, Rika is competitive so I am sure she will not abandon it for the rest of the season.

These are bad practices for Rika though... she is usually perfect in practice and struggles more in competition with nerves. Hopefully, she is ok.

According to https://english.kyodonews.net/news/...sets-sights-on-1st-four-continents-title.html

"For sure the finger hurts but at any rate I will skate as I am," said Kihira, who dislocated a joint in the third finger on her left hand after falling on a triple lutz on Tuesday.

We'll find out soon want she means by this. It's a dislocated left middle finger, shouldn't impact too much immediately.

She can do 2A and go for skating clean. She could still win. I would be more concerned about attempting a 3A when she is preoccupied with her injury, tight, perhaps anxious and making it worse.

I guess they will see what shape she is in tomorrow morning. There should be a practice early tomorrow.

Rika did two 3As in her last practice. The fact that she went for the second one suggests that the first one wasn't a fluke and that she's (hopefully) in the right shape to do them tomorrow. You're right, we'll see what happens then.

The SP is some 7 hours away, but I'm already dying of nerves... Rika can still get a perfectly wonderful score if she only does a 2A, but who knows... I really hope that finger does not bother her :dbana: stay strong!!

RIKA!!! you are so incredible, I admire you so much! Please get well soon, I know you will do the necesary to win this, really really good luck in the short program! My poor baby will not lose this for this kind of injury, she is a fighter, go Rika! So much love from Mexico!! <3

Hello!

While cheering for your favorite skaters in the Fan Fest during competition is ok, please refer to this
thread for our policy on competition chat. No scores, elements, or other info regarding competition is permitted until after the segment is over.

Thanks!

Ahh that waxel... still, Rika is only 5.06 points behind Bradie, and the gulf between their FS scores is... vast. Of course, Kaori is truly her main threat tomorrow, and cannot be underestimated! :P Do your best, Rika!!

Rika‘s only threat is herself. And that injury on her finger. :( Wishing her the best of luck tomorrow!

This is true. This season only Rika can defeat Rika! The SP today was definitely not her best. The elements were good( other than the 3A) but her head wasn’t 100% in the performance. Hopefully, the long will be better.
