Russian local competitions 2017-2018

I often wonder if any of these girls who would be stars in any other country but have little chance in Russia are thinking maybe about representing another country. But it's probably a very complicated issue, I can't imagine it would be viewed favourably in Russia.. it would be like loosing "national gold".. although I'm reading here some rumours about Samodurova...

That fall looked horrible. It's like her skate got stuck on the ice with her full weight pressing against the ankle for a good while before it finally got unstuck.

Hopefully it wasn't as bad as it looks and she won't have lingering issues in the future...

Moscow Qualifiers to Nationals Younger Age (Zhuk Memorial), 06-09 Feb 2018, Ice Palace Mechta
Only singles, boys and girls. Three parts - Elements (include jump, jump combo, CCoSp, StSq, jump and jump combo - best resultts of two attempts), SP, FS.
Two age groups - elder (born at 2005-2006), programs like Junior, and younger (born at 2007 and earlier), programs like Advanced Novice.
First will be SP, after SP only 24 skaters of each group advance to next parts - Elements and FS.

Qualified to National Competiions - 7 elder girls, 7 younger girls and 6 elder boys, 6 younger boys.

11:00-16:00 - Younger Girls SP
16:15-20:15 - Elder Girls SP
20:30-22:30 - Elder Boys SP

07 Feb.
12:00-16:00 - Younger Girls Elements
16:15-18:00 - Younger Boys SP
18:15-22:15 - Elder Girls Elements

08 Feb.
12:00-14:45 - Younger Girls FS
15:00-17:45 - Younger Boys Elements
18:00-22:00 - Elder Boys Elements

Headliner is Alena Kanysheva, who was 8th at JrNats with score 195.12. Also will be other very interesting boys and girls.

It is very important competition, especially for girls who are age eligible to JGP next season - medalists of Nationals Younger Age will be treated as pretenders to JGP Events. So it is important to qualify to Nationals Younger Age.
And almost all well-knowh Junior and Senior Russian Ladies have medals of Nationals Younger Age.

Thanks for information, AlexRus! Always pretty informative. Yeah, Alenka, Daria Usacheva and Maya Khromykh will shine there in the elder category, as well as Yana Liventseva, Sofia Muravyeva and Anna Frolova. But actually, the superstar headliners will be in the younger girls category: Ksenia Melkumova (2009), Sofia Akatieva (2007), Sofia Somedelkina (2007) and Elizaveta Berestovskaya (2007). Not to mention Zinina, Navarenko, Sinyavina, Morozova, Lagutova etc. It's so exiting as Junior Nationals. You should check this thread sometimes to be in the know of current and future state of supernovas!

Sad that only 24 skaters will show their elements, I still have hopes that Melkumova will make it and get to the top 24, but it will be difficult. :(
 
Have a little faith, puremagic! Melkumova can do it!
side note: what's the diminutive of Ksenia?

Sofia Akatieva, Sofia Somedelkina and Elizaveta Berestovskaya - yes, they are real pretenders to Nationals Younger Age spots.

Ksenia Melkumova - she most probably will not be at Top24 after SP. Unstable 2A and only tries to land 3T. Too young.

I know. By headliners I didn't mean their competitive abilities, I was saying about skating/jumps. Melkumova's skating skills are incredible.

Her SP hasn't been that bad. She's scored in the 28-35 range in it. Looking at the December 22-24 ЦСКА competition, 35 points would have been enough for 13th place while 32.40 was required for top 24. So with a good skate, that could still be enough. It depends on the success of the other elements, also.

This is her PB and with a good skate she has the capability to do better than that.
