SSHOR Moskvich

I just loooove Kirill the Younger's choreo sequence (CoR 4, FS). :points:
Kirill K did a good job recovering from the opening falls, you'd never know it looking at that cheery face in the second half!
His disappointment was obvious after the music ended though :console: I hope he regroups soon and gets the chance to go to another stage.

Now, for the eagerly anticipated return of 🍨🍎...

Someone on the Russian forum noted how it's kinda funny that this weekend at the CoR we'll have Ilya Yablokov and at the GP in Sheffield we'll have Edward Appleby.
Good luck, smooth ice, and clean skates to all the Apples skating this weekend!

The last CoR stage is upon us, and coach Vika is bringing half her team to Perm. We'll have the two Kirills and Max in juniors as well as lovely Lyosha and ice cream Ilya with his brilliant, brilliant programs in seniors.
It will be like a proper holiday for us Moskvich fans. :jump:

Indeed! Fingers crossed everyone with a chance at this point will get the necessary qualification points for Nationals.
Speaking of holidays I hope you've been having a nice one :D

Thanks, it was very relaxing. Only the cats were annoyed because their usual servants were not around.

And from a nice holiday it continues straight into a nice weekend, because look who won his first CoR medal and gave his first (?) interview!

"After my first Grand Prix performance, I felt confident and at this start I wasn't chasing any placements, I just wanted to do all my jumps cleanly. I did my thing and came in third. I'm glad I had the right attitude.

I was even more in tune for the free skating than for the short program. Viktoria Evgenievna (Butsaeva) also suggested this to me. Before the free skating she told me not to chase any placement, just to show myself. And my mom tells me this all the time. I began to listen, and really realized that this is one of the main trump cards and the key to my good skate.

I've been training in Viktoria's group for the third season. Before that, I trained with Aleksandr Sergeevich Volkov. Now we have a very good team at the rink - Alexey Erokhov, Ilya Yablokov, Andrei Anisimov, others... We communicate very well with each other; we have friendly competitions at the training sessions all the time.

My mother brought me to figure skating, I had some problems as a child. At first I was doing it for my health, and after a while they asked me, "Do you want to do professional sports?" I said yes right away. It was fun for me - skating, jumping, then we started watching competitions, I was hooked, started competing, it became interesting...

I like not only to jump, but also to perform my programs. I just get into the character that they give me in the programs. So I like the programs themselves even better...

To be honest, I did not expect that I would get on the podium here. I thought I would probably stay in fourth. But it's good that I didn't think about the podium in the free program and just did my skating. Afterwards, I heard the applause and cheers. I really enjoyed what I did. I really enjoyed it. I stood up after the performance and was over the moon," commented Kirill Kropylev.

Interesting that he says he likes the actual "skating" part more than the jumps, when usually boys his age are all about jumping. It comes through in his performances though how much he enjoys skating - his LaLaLand never failed to put a smile on my face this season.

I didn't have time to watch the other free skates yet or check rankings for nationals, so more on that maybe later.

Well, servants are entitled to holidays too ;)

Kirill K is sunshine personified, watching his free skate is the perfect antidote to winter blues :D

Alas, Max didn't manage to recover from a disastrous short... It looks like he'll miss Junior Nationals :( Kirill A seems to have made it, and Timofei Stolyarenko squeezed in too, although this might change if e.g. any young senior boys compete in both categories at nationals.
It's a bit unfortunate that they count ranking points instead of total score since the strength of the fields has varied between stages, otherwise Timofei's spot would be quite secure.

I've finally managed to catch up with everything - Andrei's 3 landed quads in the FS at the previous stage :yahoo:, and the juniors and seniors in Perm this weekend. Tbh, I'm glad I have a month now to catch my breath before RusNats.

Kirill A. didn't look too thrilled after his free skate but his spot at Junior Nats should be secured, so he'll have another chance to show what he is capable of at a big competition. He's made such vast improvements at the beginning of last season, he had to hit a plateau sooner or later - but he'll get over it.
Bad luck for Timofey - his second stage was really tough and now he'll probably miss Junior Nats by a hair's breadth. On the other hand, he did exceed all expectations at the Cup stages and once he gets a stable 3A he will be fighting for the major podiums.
As for Max, it's still a transitional period for him. I imagine the coaching styles of Davydov and Butsaeva are quite different, so he probably needs some time to adjust and get rid of old habits. For example, I'm reluctant to believe that Vika told him to go for a 4T-combo as the last jumping pass in the second half of his FS...

The good news for us fans is that we will be able to admire Timofey, Max, the Kirills, and co. competing again at the Moscow Championships in just ten days - so the cheering may continue!

Let's get to the seniors: Ilya is just magical when he steps on the ice and delivers his programs this season. That silver medal is so deserved and even more impressive as he's coming back from injury. He obviously worked a lot on his presentation (see also this interview he gave after the free) and the judges are rewarding him for it.
And Lyosha is a true cactus, as all the most beautiful skaters are. I don't think I've ever rooted for anyone so hard in my life as a figure skating fan - it is a wild ride. 😅 But as long as he still smiles in the K&C everything is fine and though I haven't checked the rankings yet, I believe both Lyosha and Ilya have qualified for the Cup final and they will go to RusNats together with Andrei. 😸

So what better way to conclude this CoR series than with some beautiful photos of Team Moskvich?

It's Championship season in Russia and the Moskvich lads claimed not only one, but two titles at the Moscow City Championships!

Here are the winners, Andrei Anisimov, the 2022 Moscow Senior Men's Champion (SP, FS), and Kirill Kropylev, the 2022 Moscow Junior Men's Champion (SP, FS)!

A bit farther to the east, the youngest Kirill (Nozdrevatykh) won the gold medal at Zhiguli (SP, FS) in the 1st sports category and Arina Kalugina claimed silver in the girls' competition of the same category with a clean 4T+2A+SЕQ.
And best of all, after a long period of inactivity, the Team Moskvich insta account posted again to celebrate these victories.

Let's hope that Russian Nationals will be equally successful for Team Moskvich! They have all the goods to fight for the top placements and I'm sure it will be a wonderful, exciting competition next week. Best of luck, clean skates, and only happy faces in the Kiss & Cry to Andrei, Ilya, and especially to Lyosha! :cheer2:

They may not have had the cleanest performances or highest scores this time, but I still love their skating the best.

I've missed the Moskvich boys skating so much, and finally there is something to look forward to.

Christmas Kirill (maybe?), 7-9 February

Lyosha, Ilya, Christmas Kirill (maybe?), and Kirill K., 10-11 February

Hopefully there will be a stream for the Tchaikovskaya Prizes this year. Otherwise I can just imagine Lyosha taking the opportunity to skate a perfect, clean FS (with StSq4  ), and nobody ever seeing it.

Christmas in February unfortunately didn't happen. 🙈 But let's start from the beginning.

Although the Moscow fed threatened not to hold any competitions in January, they in fact held the selections for Younger Age Novice Nats. And two of coach Vika Butsaeva's lads made it, the youngest Kirill (N.) plus Daniil Zholobov who was with Dubinskaya before. :cheer: Of course there is also spectacular Vadim Voronov who won the whole thing and is also very much a part of Team Moskvich. But honestly, it's enough work to follow all of Vika's boys already, and maybe we just have to wait for Vadim for a little while. ;)

At the beginning of February at the Moscow Cup, Christmas Kirill the elder burned down the Christmas tree in his SP, but had some redemption in the FS. It's just not his season. :(

Finally, we had the Prizes of Tchaikovskaya, with many Moskvich skaters trying their best - alas, not always succeeding.
The highlight was middle Kirill (K.) winning the CMS category with a Hail Mary Axel sequence (SP, FS).
Then there were two Moskvich Lyoshas competing, one in CMS, the other in MS (yes, this is all getting rather confusing). Little Lyosha (Efremenko) cried a bit after his SP, and I cried a bit after big Lyosha's (Erokhov) SP. But as a hardened fan of cactus skaters, I knew that they had every chance to redeem themselves in the FS. And even though the medal in the senior men's category didn't shine golden, my smile shone very brightly after seeing the Greatest Showman skated again. 💙

So while everyone else was watching US Nats and 4CC, this (plus Dragon Trophy 🐉) was my competition marathon. I regret nothing.

What remains is to wish all competitors at the upcoming Russian Junior Nationals good luck. As I said somewhere in a competition thread, I hope Kirill A. can just go out there and enjoy himself. Timofey S. has the best programs among the Russian Juniors this year, no-one can convince me otherwise. I'm very happy that they will be shown at the Junior Nats stage. Wishing both Kirill and Timofey smooth ice and clean skates! 🍀

PS: It's getting really hard to find podium pictures for these smaller competitions. The Team Moskvich insta account hardly posts anymore. :( And while all the usual social media outlets used to cover local competitions extensively in the past seasons, now I feel the actual competition coverage is dialled down in favour of shows and not directly skating-related stuff. But that's a topic for another thread.

I said it for the seniors, and I will say it for the juniors: To me they are still the best and the clear winners of the unofficial Best Program segment.

Kirill:

Timofey:

Timofey did brilliantly for a guy who's had his arms in plaster not so long ago! The SP was awesome, while he just started showing signs of fatigue in the LP a wee bit, I guess he's still working to regain some stamina from the time off.

I was kinda worried about Kirill A but he actually managed alright up till the last few jumping passes of his freeskate :dbana:
He may not have reached last year's level of success but based on the way he's been going so far this season it was a decent showing. I like how he still remembered to perform in the choreo sequence afterwards (me, I tend to look stone-faced if I mess up 😅)

I'm glad the audience sounded so appreciative and encouraging for both of them :love2:

I hope Team Moskvich has it in them for a spring competition or two, it feels too early for their season to be over...

Qualifiers for Elder Age Novice Nats are going down in Moscow and it feels like Team Moskvich is making up half of the roster. After the SP, Max is in medal position, Kirill K. dramatically wiped out of a spin but kept it together otherwise, Kirill N. was the cutest competitor, and my personal highlight, Timofey got a level 4 step sequence again! There were even more of Vika's boys, but I couldn't find videos for all of them.
Anyway, good luck to everyone tomorrow in the FS! :cheer2:

Bravo Max! 🤩 That must be the best SP he's skated so far, hope he can hang on to the podium. He is really developing on the performance side too, and spins are looking a lot better compared to the start of the season.

Falling out of spins mid-programme is the worst feeling from first-hand experience 😖 Kirill K bounced back awesomely, I need to take notes!

Aww, everyone looks deservedly happy, especially Zhenya Vlasov :party2:

Gotta give props to him and the boys for making a strong case for the choreographic step sequence. I'm usually a bit underwhelmed by most attempts but they have some quality ones. Kirill K's is pure joy and the highlight of his programme. Also Kirill N has a beautiful bauer that reminds me of Junhwan and Yelim 🤩

Roll on Elder Novice Nats!

Ira is with us on the 'Moskvich' nomenclature 😆
