But this isn't the entire story -- if it were just a "train cars moving up" situation, Davis&White would have been in 4th place, rather than 6th, and V&M would have been placed behind B&A in the OD and FD.
Well then I hope we are not thinking back fondly on the old way of doing things in ice dance, when teams had to wait their turn, smile big time even when they knew they had been robbed and brown-nose their way up the standings.
The new judging system is a big improvement on how things were done before. It actualy rewards what is happening on the ice. B-A fall in the CD: they get hammered. V-M miss a twizzle in the OD: they fall to 3rd place. V-M have the best FD: they win it.
Apart from a few fanatics on this site, I have heard no bad comments about these results. I am glad that there is finally movement in ice dance. Even when there was little, it was still fun to watch, but each year, the results had to be taken with a huge grain of salt.
Not any more. I believe that the sport is greater for that, and that it is a step in the right direction towards restoring credibility to all disciplines of figure skating.
You are right, this is not the entire story. There were multiple stories played out at these worlds. But two of those stories had to do with
1- a sport regaining credibility and
2- the arrival of V-M, an insanely talented young team.
You might say that V-M are all that, and a bag of chips.
