Virtue / Moir serve notice at worlds......

I love V/M, but to be honest, I thought that D/S should've won all three phases of the competition. Perhaps I am in the minority in this belief...

When Virtue and Moir were doing their program, there was no noise in the house, but there was a big ovation at the end of that program.

Definitely not in the minority! D&L were, IMHO, far better than V&M in ALL phases of the competition! And I think that V&M need to get a FD with some actual choreography.

Yeah, obviously these Canadian kids were the worse of the competition.
They only won the FD, but out of pity. The judges gave it to them. The fact that they actually dance is really something they should try to overcome.

D&L were far better in every aspects.

The fact that it took D-S 8 years to break the podium at the world level proves they are superior. Do you know how talented you have to be to miss the world podium 8 times in a row. Before that, they did medal TWICE in Europe! Come on guys, obviously the French team is something very special.

D-S are the greatest team ever. Think about it: the one time they won a world championship, they did not win the FD. Sign of true and undisputed champions.

Wow, didn't take long for this thread to take a negative turn....

I certainly hope the article is correct. With good judging, it should be. V/M have made me more excited about ice dance than I have been in years. Truly one of the best teams I've ever seen, bar none, and still right at the beginning of what will hopefully be long and illustrious careers. They have everything it takes to be champions — the technical and artistic ability, and the will to work hard for it. I am beyond thrilled at their silver medal, and hope it heralds that they will be in serious contention for gold in Vancouver.

I agree with you!
Before, I didn't like to watch ice dancing, but now, because of virtue/moir I enjoy it. They are my favorite!!

I'm not going to get into an argument about the other dance teams and who is better than whom. That's for the judges to decide.

It doesn't take much though to realize that this is a very special dance team, that they are 18 and 20 years old and that they are barely two years out of being junior.

Personally, I think they will be the Tiger Woods of the dancing world for (I hope!) years to come.

I have been following V/M for a few years now I like them fine, but I really did not think that their FD was all that wonderful. I found it boring and I do not understand why they got the standing O. It was well skated but I almost fell asleep.

Out of pity?? Come on now...why on earth would the judges GIVE it to them if they didn't work for it. That doesn't even make sense. They earned it fair and square.

That's been my problem with V&M all along. The basics are good, yes, and that is important. But their FDs especially have just not held my attention and they are choreographically so light and empty, and that has made it hard for me to understand why they get the high marks that they do. They are good, yes, but their choreography is too simple.

Sometimes "simple" is the best way to tell a story or show emotion. I thought they were amazing on that FD. And this comes from someone who has been supporting and cheering Delobel and Schoenfelder from the first day. I mean, I want so much D/S to win, they did a great job and IMHO they should have placed 1st as I believe their FD was superior. But this takes nothing away from V/M talent. They are indeed very special.

I could not agree with you more. It does not make any sense ta say that V-M did not deserve to win the FD. It does not make any sense to say that D-S are the greatest and have been for the last years. D-S have been "also-ran" for most of their career, outperformed year in year out, and it almost happened this time around.

I really do think that V-M are something really special since I can't recall any dance team winning medals at the WC on their 2nd year on the senior level. Has it ever been done? I know Torvill / Dean did not, nor did Grischuk / Platov,
Maybe Klimova / Ponomarenko? Not sure... Anyway, these canadian kids are moving up fast, rightfully so.

If you want to see something scary, have a look at their official website. You can see all their programs there since 2003. The progression is just insane. Just how good will they get? They are barely 19! (I averaged the 2...)

In retrospect, V-M were the biggest story of these championships. We just saw them win their first world medal. Somehow I doubt it will be their last. I really like what Judy said, the Tiger Woods of the dancing world. Could not agree more. The best is yet to come.

Well I have been following the sport for many years this is definitely the most exciting dance team I have seen in years. Their free dance was breathtaking I'm already predicting the olympic gold in 2010 unless a scandal erupts and the french and russians fix the event for one of their couples.

D&S are the better team, but on the night of the free dance V&M skated better. That's what the judges and the 9000 something people in the arena thought.

I also disagree with the comments re choreography. Sometimes it boils down to personal taste of course but that was was gorgeous choreography.

I wonder if B&A will be changing? I do think that a change would be good for them especially now that they are in competition with V&M.
