Women's Artistic Gymnastics

St Louis is bidding on the 2024 Olympic Trials. I’m not sure it would be super fair but I wouldn’t complain about it. I’ve literally dropped them a line to beg them them to bid for figure skating Nationals. They don’t answer so I have to believe they aren’t interested.

i hope somewhere else gets it. i'm not a fan of an event being at the same venue one after the next unless there's a reason like covid. share the wealth.

They are a big gymnastics town. We have also had SEC championships 2x and NCAA championships 2x since I've lived here (like 8 years I think). And Olympic trials (men's) 2x and women's 1x. So yeah it's absolutely fair that someone else gets it, but they may be making offers elsewhere can't match. Either the swimming or diving trials is in Indianapolis almost every, if not every, cycle. Maybe I'll go to those trials if gymnastics trials aren't going to be here.

havent had a chance to watch yet, but first US black womens all around podium in history, pretty cool.

also had no idea Jordan and Jade were coming back this year, and so happy for Konnor after everything she's been through the last couple years.

Know what's funny? I didn't even notice it until it was pointed out to me. But yes, pretty cool.

I was being driven crazy through the whole event. I remember when a gymnast got one Olympic cycle if they were lucky, and after that they were done. (Of course if one goes WAY back in history there were women doing multiple Olympic cycles, but that sport bears no resemblance to what we see today.

Now, it is not unusual for women to have at least two and possibly 3 Olympic cycles AND they're doing skills at the very highest level. It's perfectly normal to have women in their 20s competing, again at the highest level. They're going back and forth between elite and college, they have so many options. WHY can't figure skating be like that? Instead of OMG she's in her 20's she's washed up.

Does anyone know the format of 2022 Worlds? I think in the team final, it’s 3-up, 3-count (choosing from 5 available gymnasts), but what is it in the qualification stage? Do all 5 go & then one scored dropped? Only 4 go & 1 score dropped? Only 4 go and all scores count?

4 up 3 count in qualification

i hardly got to watch any of it, but amazing job for all on the podium. this is huge for GB and Canada. I am really surprised China was so far off the podium, they are usually the USA's biggest competition (outside of Russia)

i really haven't been able to follow gymnastics as i normally do this season. who are the contenders for the AA podium? i don't even know who qualified.

Top 6 AA in qualifying were:
Andrade (Brazil - 57.332)
Jones (USA - 55.766)
Carey (USA - 55.132)
Maggio (Italy - 54.800)
Jess Gadirova (GBR - 54.599)
Ou Yushan (China - 54.466)

Then D'Amato (ITA), Miyata (JPN), Visser (NED), Saraiva (BRA) and Black (CAN) all scored between 54.366 and 54.131.

I really hope Andrade can hold on and win the title, and I'd love to see Maggio or Jess Gadirova get on the podium too.

Saraiva was injured and only competed bars yesterday in team final, so she may pull out of the AA? Fingers crossed she's okay, she qualified in 1st for the floor final but that may be in doubt now too.

did Chiles have a bad day? strange to not see her name up there. also surprised Jones qualified in front of Carey.

very excited to see Andrade's name at the top, she's got a great shot to win. and also to see Flavia with her! i hope she's healthy enough to compete.

Looks like Ellie Black gave everything she had to clinch that bronze! And she did!

video unavailable in my country... but if you go to the Canadian thread... i posted her beam routine where she was stellar... and fist pumps in the end...

Also to note, Ellie was there with all newcomers... some retired since the games and Shannon Olsen, a very decent competitor with experience, unexpectedly lost her mother just prior to worlds... so she didn't go (understandably). So this team needed Black magic to win this medal :) Pun intended.

Chiles was having a great day and then sadly fell twice on beam :(

a very wholesome AA podium!

so happy for Andrade, she has come such a long way the last several years and what a historic accomplishment. I hadn't watched much of Shilese before this but she's great and very deserving of a medal at her first worlds! and VERY wholesome for GB getting their first womens AA medal. so happy with this podium.

Suni Lee has announced her return to elite next season with a goal of competing at Paris 2024! so excited to see her back!
